How much per day do you pay for dog boarding?

Gosh--I feel lucky. We used to pay 12/day a few years ago and now our "animal caregiver" charges 20/day. She cares for the dogs at her own house and only takes a limited number at a time. The dogs are not in cages but can be separated into differnt roooms or parts of the yard if need be.
She always comes home clean and apparently well cared for as she is torn between getting in the car with DH and saying her goodbyes to her doggie caregiver.

After reading this post I won't think twice about the rated we get

24 per day per dog. They get pool time, playtime, group playtime and a bath (complete witth bow). We have to supply food

the vets around me vary in price, but even though i trust our vet, I trust the guy i take our pup to more, since I've known him longer. I think most importantly that you really "trust" who is taking care of your pets.

We have a chain of "resorts" near us where things like playtime, storytime, etc are all ala carte. The thing is that a place like that would be a waste for my girl. She's a rescue with a whole suitcase full of issues and will chose to spend the day in her crate, sucking on her blanket (so disgusting yet SO adorable) until I come home. So give her an indoor, climate controlled run, regular meals and her blanket and she'll be OK. Miserable but OK.

The last time that we boarded her at the vet I had to go back a few days later to pick something up. One of the girls who had taken care of Amber while she was being boarded came out to say hello. Amber raced right over to her and mushed up against her. Then, of course, she raced back to me...horrified that she was going to be left there again. But it made me feel so much better, seeing how happy she was to see this girl.

I think that pet resorts are great and I love the playtime and webcam ideas. Many pets are much more social than my girlie and would enjoy the pampering and playing. But like hereyago said, the most important thing is that you trust who's taking care of your pet. Because your pet can't tell you about their "vacation" when you get back.

The fact that the staff at my vet knows Amber and all of her issues, that a bunch of them are rottie people and that the vet is in a very visible area in case of fire or mishap (I'm paranoid) makes me feel much better.

But I'm still going to miss her terribly! I'm even sleeping on a blanket for her to bring along so that she has something that smeels like me. there may be three of us living here but she's definitely my dog :goodvibes.

OP, I'm glad that you found a solution. I always just figure in the pet boarding costs as part of the total vacation expenses. I refer to Amber as my "luxury". Instead of manicures and beauty salons I spend the money on kibble and kongs :rotfl:.

Have you ever looked at Care.com? I have not personally used them yet...but I'm getting close! And I've seen a lot more being said about them in the news etc now. You can do background checks etc on the caregivers. I was amazed at how many are listed for my area. Check it out......

$20.00 a day and every seventh day is free. And they have lots of a la carte services similar to what DisneyandRedSox posted. We usually do one nature walk per day as well, so in total $25.00 a day. The kennel lets the dogs out into a big yard a minimum of five times a day, that's what they claim anyway. We love our kennel, they are very accomodating and it's so clean. Our dog never has issues when we bring him home, he hasn't lost weight, etc. He just sleeps for two days straight!! LOL!

we paid about $20-25 a day.
we found breeders that take in dogs for boarding. it's a great vacation for our babies: the dogs (theirs, any other boarders, and mine) hang out together all day, play outside in a fenced yard, and are crated indoors at night. they do go in the house, but on a limited basis (rain, etc).
of course, they must be current on shots, some require that they must be neutered (for obvious reasons:rolleyes:), and have a previsit to ensure they are good with other animals and strangers.

the only problem we ever had was when our golden, kovu, fell in puppy love....the two spent every moment together running through the HUGE yard (it used to be a farm), cuddled together when it was nap time, and were generally inseparable. he really missed his girl, but she lived too far away to continue play dates. eventually he did get over his lost love :guilty:

DH and I don't have human kids, we have fur kids! We love our doggies so much, they are truly part of our family.... And that being said, when we go to WDW (about an 8 hour drive from where we live) we make it a 12 hour drive to go out of the way thru Atlanta to drop our "babies" off at my sisters house - who takes care of them. I couldn't board them - especially because our oldest doggie (who is 8) had a horrible awful life before we rescued her, she was abused and neglected and she has separation anxiety issues. We have looked into the boarding at Disney - and are considering it if my sister ever can't watch them. It seems like a great place!

We got lucky and found out our DD's cheer coach will watch our dog. We offered to pay her $20 per day and she is happy with that. I just looked at camp bow wow in our area and they charge $44 a day!!

Another place to look is to call your high school. Many kids want part time jobs. good luck OP. Let us know what you find.

There's a really nice place near my home that charges 40 dollars a day and I only need to bring her food. The place has rooms, not crates with dog beds and a TV and because its also a day care, they will socialize your dog with the other's during the day.

I found a great dog sitter on Craigslist. Many private places will advertise there because it is free. Ask for a few references and call them. Visit and see the place. Price was about 15.00 a day. Worth a try. Best of luck.

I can recommend two great places in the Atlanta area...

Petport Boarding in the airport area

Camp Paradise in the Conyers area

Petport is owned and operated by close friends of ours. I've got 2 golden retrievers and I have used both. If anyone needs more info, just PM me.

:dog::dog:

We keep ours at home and have a dog sitter. We pay her $15 to come twice per day, once in the morning and once in the evening to let them out, pet them, and water them.

She graduates next year......not sure what I will do when she leaves......boarding is expensive and we have 2 dogs.
