How much is the Disneyland Photopass ?

The photopass itself is free. What you want to do with it after is what costs the CD with all your photos is 59.99

If I were to split the cd with my brother can we both transfer the pics to each of out laptops that night? Also were going for three days will that matter?

You have to go online and order your CD after you have your photopass cards when you return home. It then takes a week or so to get your CD. I don't think you can get it while you're at the park. Beside, the nice thing about the CD is you can go in and add special Disney borders and sayings to your photopass pictures before you order it.

How photopass works is you collect all your photos on one photopass (or you and your brother can combine your photopasses together) for the entire time you are there. When you get back from your trip, you enter your photopass number(s) and view your pics.
At that time you can decide to purchase a CD with all pics, or prints of particular pics, etc.
With the CD you could make copies (at least that was possible 4 years ago when I did it) download them, etc.
So short answer, yes, you and your brother can split cost and share photos.

The WDW photopass has a prepurchase CD savings where if you purchase the CD before your trip, you get it for a discount. Does the DL have a discounted photopass to purchase the CD before trip?

No DL has not done a discount like that. The DL CD is $59, versus the WDW CD at $149 that usually has the special price of $99.

So while it seems like a great deal being much cheaper, DL visits are usually shorter so the per photo cost can be higher.

Do you think it's worth it for one day in your opinion? I always get it at WDW but it's much bigger and as you said, the trip is longer at WDW.

Because Disneyland has no preorder price, then you don't have to buy it until after. The price won't change drastically between now and when you get back.

As far as whether or not it's worth it for one days use, I think you need to evaluate how many photos you have on your PhotoPass and the quality of those pictures. I've had occasions where the pictures with my camera turned out better than the PhotoPass ones and vice versa. And you can always buy a digital download and/or photograph of one picture if there's one that's very special.

Offhand, I think one day may not be worth, but it depends on a variety of factors. During one visit, my camera batteries died seconds before I was about to get my picture taken with one of my favorite characters. Because of PhotoPass, I didn't lose the moment and knew that I was absolutely locked into buying the CD. Yes, I had many more days to maximize that value, but once the batteries died, I was committed.

Incidentally, that was the last Disneyland trip that camera ever made. I bought a brand new camera shortly thereafter because that old one ate batteries like a starving teenager, sometimes killing the batteries right after the camera turned on.

There are not as many photopass photographers at DL as there are at WDW. When we were at WDW we had lots of pictures from everywhere but at DL we only got a maybe 14 and we were there 5 days. So I don't really think it is worth it in my opinion. But like the person before me said it would probably depend on how many you end up with.

Just depends how many pics you get. I've done DL and WDW in the same season and honestly could not see a difference in the number of photographers. It just varied depending on the crowds in the park, saw more in DL on a Saturday than on a Tuesday.

If you get some taken you will find that the value won't just be in quantity. But Quality. Each photographer will take a few or even several sometime. Different poses, adjusting the camera. So in a day you could get 50 pictures and 7 look good. So you might want to consider that and if a bunch are good get the CD if just a couple get a few prints to frame. Also keep in mind that in the perfect spot in front of the castle, the CM taking Photopass picture will be happy to snap a few with your personal camera too. Just ask.

Keep in mind that with the DL photopass (don't know about WDW) on can order individual pictures. I always have them take pix w both my camera and theirs and when I get home I usually compare and contrast and find 1 or 2 that are so superior to my camera out of the several dozen that I order them (last trip they were $15 each). So if you only have a few it can be cheaper to order just those then make some nice prints w whatever was on your camera (or books as I like to). Also, in case anyone at Disney is reading, if you would let us put the space/splash/screamin/various other ride pix on our photopasses I and many others would buy the cd!

Ok so stupid question(s): I could do the photopass and then after I get home decide none of the pics are worth it, and then NOT get the CD and pay nothing?

How do you get started on the photopass?

I don't know that much about Photo Pass so can I ask a couple questions?

1. Are there set locations where the photos can be taken? If so, is there a place to find a listing of where those locations are?
2. Are they just photos of your with/at various Disneyland locations or attractions or are these photos done with characters?
3. We will be in the parks for 5 days... do we need to have a Photo Pass for each day we are there? And do we need to have a different Photo Pass for each park or will we be given one Pass that we can use for all days and at both parks... and if the later is correct, are you given anything like a card or something so they know you're "collecting" the photos over a period of time?
4. Are they willing to take photos with you own personal camera in addition to the Photo Pass photo or is it that they will only take a photo using their camera?

Sorry for all of the questions but there is so much to learn and figure out before going to Disneyland it all seems so overwhelming.

That's correct.

To use photopass. You need to go to photopass.com and open an account, can do this before or after, it doesn't matter.

Go to the parks, ask a photopass photographer to take your picture, they will ask if you have a PP card, if you don't they will give you one. After that you can give that card to the next PP photographer. If you happen to get another card, because you leave first one in the room or split up and group without card want pictures, it's no problem.

When you get home, you can view and order in the park too, go to your account, put the number in from the back of the cards. Your pictures taken with the cards will be put into your online account. You can then view them. Edit them a bit, add borders, crop...ect. Then order any product you want.

For a lot of information about PP though with a WDW perspective, and some information only pertains to WDW. http://www.stitchkingdom.com/disneysphotopass/

1. Yes http://www.disneyphotopass.com/aboutdpp_map_dca.aspx
2. Both at most Character Meet and Greet a photopass photographer is there.
3. You can see in my post above, use the same card each day in both parks or use multiple cards it won't matter.
4. Yes. My only comment on this is, they know how to use thier camera, they don't know how yours works so set up everything first.

And you can always ask them to take multiple pictures with your camera. I have a nice DSLR and sometimes the really good photographers have a field day with my camera and the photopass one.

I second the notion about your camera set up beforehand for pictures. Think of PhotoPass as a backup and/or complement to your own camera. I've read enough sad stories of lost or stolen cameras, computers, computer crashes, et all that made magical pictures nothing but memories, so as E from "The Incredibles" would say "Luck favors the prepared."

Also your own camera will be nice for those moments when PhotoPass isn't around or isn't taking a picture, especially at character meals. At the character spots, most PhotoPass photographers will take the standard pose with the characters we've all seen, but sometimes a camera will capture a fun moment beyond the standard Disney pose we've all seen. The more pictures you take both with your own camera and with PhotoPass, the better chances you'll have of getting the "right" shot regardless of who took it.

I thought I had read if you ordered your DL Photo CD after a trip to WDW you get both for $59. Can anyone confirm this?

Living here we could get LOTS of pics before ordering... :cool2:

I did this in 2009. I went to WDW in late May and then took an unplanned visit to Disneyland for the 4th of July. I was able to add the Disneyland photos to my WDW account and get the Disneyland price.

Two things to be aware of if you're thinking of doing this. Disney says that the photos can be viewed for up to 30 days. That 30 window apparently starts on the first day a photo is taken. Once you activate the photos online, you have 30 days from activation before they expire. Once activated, you have 30 more days before they expire.

I activated my photos around June 15th. When I got back on July 5th, I had 10 days before my WDW photos expired. Adding the Disneyland photos got me the Disneyland price, but I had to do all editing before that July 15th deadline to keep the WDW photos on the CD. If you have to play with time, do all editing of the first photos before the 2nd trip so you only have to worry about editing trip #2 photos with less time to do so.

That said, be aware that I have read reports that say the price is directly linked to the most recent photopass picture by date taken. In other words, if you visit Disneyland first and WDW second, you'll pay the WDW price.

Also, you can combine trips from 2 different visits on the same CD. I visited Disneyland for Halloween 2009 and was back 6 weeks later in December. Because I didn't activate the Halloween photos until late November, I combined both. And the Halloween borders were still available for editing in December.

:goodvibesWelcome to disboards! Don't worry, it all seems overwhelming right now but it will all fall into place when you get there!!
To answer your questions
1. There are photgraphers at set locations and they also roam around as well. If you ask a CM when you go into DL or DCA for a schedule of the character sightings you will find a photographer there as well. I found when I went they were in front of the castle milling around, in front of the Christmas tree.In DCA I found them on the pier at night as well as where all the characters tend to be as well as in front of the Golden gate bridge at night.
2.Yes to both. They can be character pics or just of your family say in front of the castle. - if the photographers are there...
3.You only need one card for the time your there and only one card for both parks. I think 1 card holds 300pics -it may be less - but it is a credit card type of a card. When you first see a photographer they will ask you if you have a card, tell them no and they will give you one. They won't ask for any personal info - not even your name - so don't think that you're doing something wrong by not giving it to them like I did!!
I got a good tip from this board, take a picture of the back of the card with the bar code on it in case you lose it then you can still access your pics when you get home. Also, you can use more than one card if you happen to lose it while your still visiting just get another and you can link them all together on the website when you get home.
4. Yes, they are more than willing to take pics with your camera as well. In some cases my camera took a better shot but in other cases, theirs turned out much nicer.
I ended up buying the cd and it took about 3 weeks to get to Canada.
Have a wonderful time!
