We woke up this morning and the pilot was out. Greg tried to re-start it and it would light as long as he had the red button pushed in, but then would go out as soon as he let go. Our gas fireplace lights. We have no idea what the problem is, we do have a call into a professional and are waiting to hear if they can fit us in. Thinking a new one is the worst case so trying to get an idea on costs.

Ugh! And we're moving in a month! man, why do these things always happen????

Oh no!

they are actually not all that expensive, it's been a few years but I think maybe around or under $200.00

Our problem was our house is old and they could not install the water heater the same way, codes had changed, so the installation could have cost a bundle but DH did it himself.

Sounds like a pilot thermocoupling mtemm. VERY inexpensive (but service call will be a minimum charge), easy to replace. Usually your sign a whole new heater is needed is leaking water. Good luck.

Depends on what size and what other things might come up as a result of the replacement. Also, as of July 1st, new water heaters that are safer, have started out in the market place. Of course there are also tankless heaters....

thanks! I'm hoping it is something inexpensive. Neither of us is particulary handy and Dad is 6 hours away. Boo-hooo!!! Really hoping its what you are saying it might be, Dan. The heater is only 6 or 7 years old, was installed when the house was built.

about $300-$350 here with delivery and instillation :)
