How much for Mousekeeping?

We tip $3 in nonDisney and Disney hotels. $3 is not a big part of our daily budget but if each person tipped $3, to a mousekeeper who has 10 rooms, $30 extra might make a big difference.

Does anyone know how much mousekeepers make?

They may be getting non-tipping wages but I seriously doubt it's much more than minimum wage. People can't live off of minimum wage. If we can afford to spend hundreds or thousands on a vacation, we should tip those who are in service fields appropriately. That's just my opinion.

I think the general rule is $1/person plus an extra $1 each day.

I completely agree! So since the majority of us are tippers, does anyone have any cute ideas or templates for envelopes to put your mousekeeping tips in?

I, too, tip $1 pp and and wxtra $1. So 5 a day for us. If they do an exceptional job (towel animals, fresh towels even though we hang them up) I will make sure I give them a $10 or $20 the day we check out. Oh an we decorate envelopes for them:)

We generally only have them come once during our stay for fresh towels and trash service, so we do $5 that day and $5 at the end of our stay unless we are super messy. And I almost always tidy up before check out, collecting all towels in one spot, wiping down surfaces, throwing away partially used toiletries, and stripping the beds/piling dirty bedding neatly. We try to leave the room close to how we found it but if I feel like things are going to require extra to clean up, I leave $10.

I don't care if they are getting "nontipping" wages - they work very hard, have always been very prompt and thorough for all of our onsite vacations at WDW, and I want to show my appreciation. We leave $5 each day, with a thank you note or any requests. When my kids were little I let them decorate the envelopes or paper. Actually, my DD19 still likes to draw a Disney character or two on the Mousekeeping envelopes. :)

I feel the same way, and I tip at every hotel or motel I stay at. My DH thinks my $5 per day is too little for the job, and so he makes a practice of giving the housekeeper more when he sees him or her. My DD makes envelopes ahead of time for me if we are in WDW, and I fill them before we leave because the tip is part of my vacation budget.

I base it on towel animals...:)

I am not sure if you are teasing, but I just wanted you to know that towel animals are not made by all of the mousekeepers. They all do not know how to make them. I don't feel it is up to me to determine who should be tipped, but I think that basing a gratuity on a towel is a flimsy reason to withhold a tip. For me, the towel animals are special little treats that would not mean much if my room as not cleaned properly.

I completely agree! We are going the week of Christmas, so we will be tipping a little extra since I feel that people who are giving up part of their family time to help other people enjoy theirs deserve the acknowledgement.

We left $5 the first day, and a dollar more than that each day after (so, $6, $7, $8...etc). We came back to the room each day with little "extras" being left for us, and DS's stuffed dog was always moved somewhere fun and cute...usually next to a towel animal. He loved it.

DD9 is very artistically talented (she sketches, so she drew a picture of her favorite thing from the day before and left that with a note that said thank you. She drew a picture of Simba after the AK day, mickey the next day, herself designing her test track car the next, and so forth. I hope the person who cleaned our room liked them! They were always gone when we came back, so hopefully she liked them enough to keep them :)

I like this idea if scaling up a dollar each day:) think I will do this on our trip in February.

I have to be honest I have not read on single reply yet and the main reason I even came into this thread was to read through and see how many posts it takes before someone tells you that you really aren't suppose to tip mousekeeping.

As far as what we do we tip $5 a day if it is just Dh and I and if it is the whole family we tip $10 a day.

Now that we are staying in a timeshare condo we will leave $20 on our check out day because that is the only time they clean it is on your check out day.

I tried to upload what I use...didn't work, but if you do a search for Mousekeeping Envelopes you should find some.
