How much do you tip generally?

We know a lot of people in the Service Industry here in NYC so we are always trying to tip well so we were really confused with the whole tipping aspect of the ship. We ended up tipping whatever they suggested but then added for our servers and state room host. (I didn't even think we would ever see the stateroom host but we always saw him and he was always super friendly calling us by name etc). Bartenders it was super weird because if I got a drink and the tip was less than a dollar I had to give more. I'm used to a dollar or 2 being more of the standard.

Lastly Palo also confused us because its only $30 a person for a meal that would easily be more than $100 on land so if we tipped our standard 20% it would be 20% of $60 rather than the price we felt it would have been on land. I know it's not land and thats the point and Disney's tipping system seems to work for their employees but we felt weird and just tipped off of what we thought the bill should have been.

As for the automatic gratuity added to any specialty coffee or adult beverage, I believe it’s actually 18% now vs 15.

18% sounds fair without needing to add more. Thanks for the update.
From the DCL website:
Please note: a 15% gratuity is automatically added to bar, beverage, wine and deck service tabs.

The spa has an 18% gratuity.
Senses Spa & Salon An 18% gratuity will automatically be applied to all spa services

On our first cruise, a 7nt, we tipped our room steward close to $50 extra. I spoke with him personally to say how much we appreciated his amazing service to us throughout the week and that we were leaving more for him. (We totally bonded with him, LOVED him!) We also did the same for our serving team, they were outstanding. On our second cruise, we also tipped our room steward an extra $50 because she, too, was AMAZING!

Was it Nelson? We had him last cruise and he was amazing. He always seemed to be close and a couple of times that we needed something I went in the hallway and just said his name and he showed up. It was amazing. We definitely tipped him extra.

Just off the Wonder. We gave $10 extra to the server, $5 to assistant server and stateroom host, nothing extra for the head server. On a previous Fantasy cruise, we tipped the head server an extra $20. He spoke to us in the dining room each night and helped us when he saw us around the ship, e.g., carrying our cups or plates to a table for us on the pool deck. He also helped my DD when she scraped up her knee and needed a bit of TLC from the health centre.

No, it was Gusti from Indonesia on the Wonder in 2013. We sailed again in 2014. I bought some Indonesian snacks from the Intl Market in our city for him, hoping I would see him again. I asked around and someone said they thought he now worked up on Deck 5. I went looking for him and found him!!

He set the bar VERY high, that is for sure!! I am glad you had a wonderful steward also! I can hardly believe how hard they work.

I have not yet sailed Disney, but my tipping on cruises would be the same.
We recently sailed a 4 night cruise over Xmas. I gave an extra $20 to the cabin steward for dh and I. The same steward was also for my brother and 2 sons and I gave $30. Our room stayed clean and the only extra I asked for was one towel, while the boys room, I;m sure, was chaos.

I tipped our beverage server at meals an extra $30, as well as our waiter. Our beverage server quickly learned he drinks we liked and often had a second drink ready for us! Our waiter was wonderful as well, accommodating my brothers allergies and my daughter being a vegetarian.

I tipped our waiter assistant $20. We had 2 consistent bartenders at our favorite bar and I tipped them $20 each. I tipped everyone the last night.

Basically, I'll tip extra for going above ad beyond and I felt those helping us did.
