How much do you spend on 'back to school'

I am in college but I think in total for supplies and some new clothes I spent under $100. I live at home so that helps cut costs so I do not feel bad about getting a few new clothes items as my tution is lower.

I got all of my supplies for about $20 and then spent $80 on two new pairs of shorts, a pair of jeans, two new short sleeve tops, a pair of leggings, and two cardigan sweaters. All were on clearance. Also I do not care how old I am I always buy a new pack of socks and a new pack of underwear this time of year since the sales are great.

I spend about $100 per child (I have 5), for us that includes school supplies, some new socks and undies, a few new outfits and usually shoes (since my kids tend to wear them out over the summer).

I have spent less-the supplies really aren't much, we don't seem to get as detailed a list as some folks do-but the clothing is usually needed. My three oldest are boys and they will all need new jeans since they all sprouted this summer! I'm a Walmart-JCPenney shopper so we do end up with quite a bit.

We homeschool so we don't have to spend a whole lot on clothing....etc but we do make up for that with curriculum cost. I always walk through the aisle of school stuff and I really want to buy the pretty folders or cool pencils but we don't need them....and my kids don't even want them LOL Stuff like the 'bling' line of staplers...so neat. Oh well....like I said we make up for it in curriculum cost. This year with 5 kids schooling...it's costing me about 800.00 in books. Add to that copies I'll be making and extra curricular cost and we'll be at about 1000.00. Plus I have to be the lunch lady.....and this school sometimes eats out LOL

I hit Aeropostale during a sale and used a coupon to get my son a bunch of shirts. I think I spent around $50 and got around 8 or 9 shirts.

His PE uniform was $18. It was optional, but easier than hunting around to find shorts and a shirt that are acceptable.

School supplies I buy when I see they are on sale. I have a small storage bin full of paper, pencils, etc. I love to stock up on pencils at Walmart after Halloween and Christmas. I get huge packs for $.25 or less during the discount sales.

His binder was $25. I got a 4" zippered one.

He still needs jeans. That is going to be tough, as right now he is a 27" waist, and the only place I heard that carries that size is American Eagle. And I am guessing they are $$$.

He also needs shoes. And a couple pair of athletic pants.

I will probably peek around at Sears today for athletic pants. He leaves for camp in a couple weeks, so he will need those for camp. As well as a cheapo pair of shoes.

I am waiting on most of it until a week before school starts (except athletic pants and a cheap pair of shoes). He is 13 and growing like a weed!!

Our supplies have been reasonable. I have one going into 4th and two going into 1st. Supplies from the list from school came in around $30 total for all 3 boys. I bought each of them a backpack for $30 total. They were on sale for $10/each at Children's Place. If these last as well as the last one did, I am fine for 3-4 years. This is my oldest sons first new backpack since pre-k when we got his first one from CP.

We live in Mississippi and school starts at the beginning of August. they are still in and will be in shorts and short sleeves to around Nov. I scout out clearance racks and buy summer clearance sales as I see them. It will probably end up being less than $100 total for clothes for all 3. I will buy winter clothes as they go on sale and my mil is always really good about giving me money to buy them clothes for Christmas presents. She lets me buy the clothes because I know the sizes and styles and am better at finding the good deals.

DD8 already got a $20 messenger bag from LLBean
DD6 still needs a new backpack. Her old Lands End has thinned at the bottom, so she's ready for a new one.
They both get a new haircut for the start of the school year.

We buy the clothes thoughout the year, so there's really no back to school amount. For the first two weeks they wear their summer stuff anyway. We can go shopping when it gets marked down more.

There's no fees and very little they have to buy in supplies. Last year supply costs were $20 including clorox wipes and Kleenex.

Now gymnastics when they restart in the fall will be expensive.
What messenger bag did you get? DD9 wants one but the ones I have seen say they are for 15yo...I am nervous it will be too big

One like this in Medium, but with a pink bubble print. It looks like the sale ones sold out. It may be a little big, but it'll hold everything she needs. The straps shorten a bit, but we still feel we can shorten it further by sewing it with black upholstery thread. She likes it a lot, so she said she'll deal with it.
