How much do you pay to board your dog?

That's about what we pay for our Old English Sheepdog and Dalmatian - tho' they throw in free grooming (invaluable for the OES) plus they pick them up and drop them off which is wonderful! :thumbsup2 I could probably shop around for a cheaper rate but the dogs love it there and I wouldn't feel comfortable sending them elsewhere. I remember when our old Boxer tried out a new kennels years ago for just a week but came back thin and depressed so I know some places are better than others...

We did go and have a look at another one that was recommended to us, we just turned up without making an appointment and there was no one there with dogs on their own in the runs anyone could have taken them so after that we decided on better the devil you know.

My god I am shocked. It costs us £10.50 per day for our German Shepherd. That includes food and insurance. They have a big field that is fenced where the dog has daily runs. We have been going there for years since my family dog went. We have never had any problems there. Apart from one year our dog caught Kennel cough even though she had the vacination for it. She sounded rather funny when she barked. The vet said it will go in time. Bless her.

I wouldn't want to put mine in the kennels near us (not very nice at all) but there is a lady who does homeboarding (I'm in Pembrokeshire) and they stay at her house with a maximum of 4 dogs. It costs £12 per night per dog plus an extra £8 per night for any extra dog, so £20 a night for my two. Food not included. I know its quite a bit, but I'd much rather they were in a happy loving home environment than left for most of the day in a cage. When I went to view the kennels nearby I asked him how long a walk they get (considering they say they take them out twice a day) and the impression I got was that they would be lucky to get 10 mins twice a day. :-(

All our family dogs come out of our kennels looking happy. They go with the owners of the kennels too when we bring them. My dog has anxiety issues so she can only tolerate certain people. If she is happy with going with the owners and appears to be happy then I am happy. Rather that than her sit at home and messing the house due her not like the owners or anything. Also she does not like being left indoors on her own. When I go out she likes to sit in her kennel. She wont have it any other way. We tried everything to get her to be inside. She would howl, mess, eat everything including wall paper etc. We seeked advice if the kennel makes her happy then leave her there. Less harm to her than her being indoors. She is a re-homed dog btw. Love her to bits.

The last poster reminds me of my old rescue neurotic collie. If I had to work all day I used to get my sister in law to walk her, but she would not go and got upset, eventually I just left her sleeping all day and she seemed happy!
Also I have to say I think it is us that worries about them in kennels rather than the dogs. As I said I hate leaving orly but it he trots off seemingly very happy with the kennel folk, does not even turn around! I know lots of people that would take him but beacuase of his lunatic tendancies he is a danger to himself so he is safe in the kennels and I am happy.Pets eh how would have them??!!:dance3:

And once the dogs are sorted then theres the bunnys, horses and cats.:crazy2: :scratchin. No wonder I am poor!and demented
