Wow RhondaS, that sounds like you gals have some fun! I've never heard of NHRA/IHRA Jr. Drag racing. Kinda nice to see something "different" than ballet, piano, soccer, football, band, hockey, swimming, scouts...not that there is anything wrong with that...

DD's piano - $80 a month each=$160

Karate - 1 hour a week - $55 a month+uniform, belts, tournament fees

Jazz - 1 hour a week - $40 a month + shoes,costumes, recital, etc

Girl Scouts - $45 a year+ cookie purchases and some field trips

Community Theatre - $50 participation fee for the girls plus many, many, donations, extras, and hours of hard parental labors of

45 minutes/week for ballet/tap = $40/month

Gymnastics last year was the same price (it's at the same school).

Swim Lessons - $125 per month per DD. 40 minutes 2x per week

Gymnastics - $30 per month per DD. 50 minutes 1x per week

I'm lucky DH is a track/cross country coach - I think the kids running will save us a fortune later in life!!! Just shoes and shirts.

Forgot to add in my hockey and our skiing
my goalie equipment 15K
my players equipment 3500.00
my skiis 850
DW's skiis 600
rentals for the kids and lessons
lessons are 35/kid per hour session and rentas are 25 for the day.

My hockey season costs me 450.00 plus any sticks I need which range from 30 dollars eacxh for a players stick to 110.00 each for my goalie sticks.
I am hoping my son wants to be a goalie just like his dad.

Swim fees 75.00 per month

Private clarinet lessons 15.00 per each 30 minute session

All right. After reading all of these posts I have decided to do two things. First of all, I'm going to stop whining about $90 a month piano lessons. Secondly, I'm going to get a job so that I can start saving for when they are REALLY involved in school.

Wow - I own a dance studio & I think I'm living in the wrong part of the country. I don't charge near what some of you are paying..............

All my lessons are 1 hour each & meet once a week:

1 lesson per month - $30/month
2 lessons per month - $56/month
3 lessons - $78/month
4 lessons - $96/month
5 lessons - $110/month
6 or more lessons - $125/month

Obviously, my DD's get there lessons for free, but my oldest DD goes to another ballet school for additional training & one of my other ones would like to take class there also, so I will need to pay for that. Those costs are comparable to mine.

Costs of shoes & dance attire are additional. For 3 of them is is about $300-$400 year, depending on what needs to be replaced. My costume fees are $50-$55 depending on the class.

One DD did swimming last year for about $350-$400 for the year - doesn't know if she wants to do it again this year. Minimal charges for the meets.

The other DD is into basketball - on an AAU team - $225 for team, cost of camps over the summer about $400 & then cost of tournaments, although many costs were included in the $225 fee.

Anyway, IMO, if the kids like it it's worth paying it, as far as I'm concerned. It keeps them involved & things & off the streets where they can get in trouble.

I don't know how some of you do it! Right now ours is not too bad.

DD6 - Dance $45/month
Soccer $20/season

DS8,4,4 - Soccer $20/season/kid

Our soccer would be higher, but we have a family membership to the YMCA that takes it from $80/kid to $20/kid. The membership is only $35/month.

We do swimming lessons in the summer at $75/session/kid. Each session is 10 lessons - 45 min each.

We will probably also do basketball and baseball, but those will be through the Y and not too expensive either.

That's the thing, when they enjoy something they want to do it more & it costs more. Plus, if they want to do something more involved & less recreational then it obviously costs a lot more. As my DH would say - they want to take it "to the next level".

We have friends who have 2 daughters - very involved in sports, but especially soccer. One of them is on an Olympic Development Team - mucho bucks! Travels all over every summer, & they are away w/ soccer & basketball tournaments every weekend. But..............their oldest daughter is now being scouted by some great colleges & will probably get a full scholarship because of her soccer skills. In fact, it would not surprise me one bit if she made the women's Olympic soccer team in 2008 - that's how good she has become.

So, while it cost them A LOT of money, I think they will be getting a great return on their investment!!! :D Plus, how much prouder can you be as a parent than to see your child succeed at something they really enjoy. ::yes::

DD#1 and 2 are both in dance. DD#1 has 2 1/2 hours a week, DD#2 has 1 1/2 hours. 4 hours a week means $130 a month--plus $250 for 6 costumes.
DD#1 is in volleyball right now but that's a school sport and thankfully no extra $$$. I am resisiting J.O. volleyball because it would interfere with dance. So far she hasn't even asked about it, but I'm ready!
DD#2 also has piano at $10 a lesson (not concert pianist level, LOL). She also has girl scouts which cost about $10 to join for the year plus the occasional activity.
DD#2 and DS are doing soccer. Soccer costs $40 per kid for the fall season and again in spring, but since I am the commissioner for first grade boys their fees are waived. I may put DS into indoor this winter since it's all he does, or I may put him into karate next to the dance studio, since I'm there anyway!
DD#1 wants to start voice lessons this year but I don't know what they cost yet. I hope not too much. They are with her old elementary music teacher who absolutely loves her, but refuses to work with kids until they are in 7th grade. Now volleyball may get in the way of that.

$45 per month tap/jazz combo class
about $85 for 2 pairs of shoes
about $150 for 2 recital costumes
$12 for tights
$56 for tickets
$10 for studio t-shirt to be worn during opening number
$15 for recital bun
$25 flowers
$12 more dollars for second pair of tights that she thought she lost then we found the first pair.
I get off VERY EASY looking at previous posts.

DS17 Ice Hockey $15,000 a year plus. This includes a travel team and a HS team. Airfare, bus trips, hotels, practices and games. $36 a month to sharpen skates(for some reason that one bothers me). His sticks are $150 a piece. Goes through 8-10 a season. ( He keeps telling me he'll go back to wood sticks.)
DD14 She's cheap!!!! Used to figure skate. Thank goodness that's over with. She plays BBall. A new pair of sneakers and she's done basically.
DD6 Dance $100 a month. 3 costumes last year $150. $200 dance shoes leotards, tights.

I have a question, does anyone feel guilty about not spending "equal" amounts on each child? Or do you believe they picked there sport or activity and that's that? If you do, do you make it up in other ways?

For the longest time, I spent way too much money on DD14's clothes. It was my way of trying to make it up to her. I don't do that anymore.

Raz isn't it great I was the same way when I was younger my parents bought me new equipment every season and I played travel hockey. My new goalie equipment set them back about 8 grand or more every season plus it was about 700 bucks for registration for the year but this included sweaters and socks and home games. We paid travel to go to away games etc and tournaments I think it was close to $25K my last season before I blew out my knee and couldn't really play at the same level anymore.

DD 10.......$50/month for drum lessons.

DD 6..........$60/month for karate.

I have thought about this a few times but this probably bothers a parent more than it bothers a child. The child may realize something is expensive, but unless you tell them how much you are actually spending on something, do they really care - probably not.

So, I feel that if they enjoy the activity, whether it costs a lot, or is a free clinic that they go to - what's the difference. Don't worry yourself about having equal costs for each child. Like I said, this is something that probably bothers parents more than anything else.
