how much do you leave Mousekeeping?

Usually we leave anywhere from $3-$5 a day. My DD also likes to leave a picture she colored on our drive down as a token of appreciation.

It adds a nice value to coming back to the room when the Mousekeeper sets up any stuff animals in a little display in our window. By the end of the week, the display included multiple chairs, blankets, stuff animals, towel creations. Brought a smile to my daughters face every time.

Tip for the exceptional service you get, is the way I have always approached it.

We skip it a few days during the trip. Usually we just need it to have the garbage emptied, and maybe a change in towels once or twice. I've read some people just request a bag be left on their door with supplies and skip the room cleaning? Not sure how this is done exactly.
We just got back from a trip to Vegas and you could call everyday before 2 am and request no housekeeping. You got an $8 voucher good for any restaurant at the hotel. I thought that was a nice perk.

I never requested a bag yet received one two or three times out of 5 nights we were at WDW. It wasn't needed after the first bag we got since we reuse our towels. I hate wasting towels! We're not in our room much so it never got dirty-and that's the same for most if not all vacations we take.

Which hotel did you stay at in Vegas??? I want that-we do this EVERYWHERE we go! And we go to Vegas at least once a year...

We keep the "Do Not Disturb" sign up for the entire stay because we don't have kids and prefer not to have housekeeping in the room every day.

However, we tip an average of $10 on the last day for a week long stay.

I tip 5 dollars a day and I tip everyday because you may not get the same mouse keeper everyday so by waiting until the end you may wind up tipping the wrong person. I really don't understand why people don't tip it's only a few bucks and it is a kind gesture that helps someone who is barely making minimum wage.

Because its a few bucks I can give to someone who needs it more. Today I got calls from Make A Wish, the UUSC, the Red Cross, Public Radio, some organization for Breast Cancer (we give a lot of money, we are on everyone's list, so three or four calls a day isn't unusual for us). Do I give it to a private individual - or do I give it to someone who is going to make a child's hospital stay more pleasant, feed the homeless, fight cancer, or respond to a natural disaster. There is only so much money in the budget - which should I cut to tip mousekeeping?

But then are you not leaving the tip before the service is provided? You leave the tip and head out to the park right?

The whole concept behind tips and wages set for tipping is to encourage a higher level of service. Your wait staff earns a low wage but then has the opportunity to earn a tip by providing exceptional service. This model encourages the employees to do their best.

Now granted I would be willing to bet most of the Disney mousekeeping staff would see the tip left behind and do an exceptional job.

We typically rent points and stay DVC so we only have Mousekeeping once and a trash day in the middle. I don't tip them. We gather our own trash up daily and carry it out. We run the dishwasher so there is no pile of dirty dishes in the sink. I have washed a load of towels many times. I even run the vacuum daily or every other day. We do have 4 dc but we expect them to treat the villa like we would treat our own house so they don't really make large messes. However, if I had a child throw up like a pp mentioned or we had some exceptional mess, I would probably feel the need to tip in those instances.

We rarely stay in other hotels but when we have, I tend to keep the 'do not disturb' sign on. We have little ones who need a nap and we prefer to not be disturbed in the afternoon which seems to be when housekeeping always gets to us.

Please people, do these housekeepers look like they are getting rich off of our tips? Kindness and generosity make the world a better place!

Why? You only get housekeeping on the 4th day. Why tip for the days they didn't do anything?

Good catch. These Mousekeeping threads are all nonsense .. everyone beating their chest and trying to top one another about how generous they are. The housekeepers must all be millionaires..

I am kind and generous. I just don't tip mousekeeping.

Am I the only one that leaves the "Do not disturb" sign up the entire trip?

I've never understood housekeeping to be honest. I don't have anyone cleaning my house every day so I don't need anyone cleaning my room.

LOL. I would if I could afford it. I also don't live in a 150 square foot room when at home.

I tip housekeeping. usually 7 bucks a day. I appreciate a fresh made bed, some thing that I don't do every day at home and fresh towels and empty garbage cans.

I'm the type that cleans before she goes on vacation because I hate returning to a messy house so I really appreciate a clean room upon returning from the parks.

don't know if I'm any more kinder than anyone else, I simply enjoy tipping people that perform any type of personal service for me. valets, hairdressers, nail salons, delivery men. anyone who makes my life nicer or easier by their hard work gets a tip from me.

No its called doing the job you were hired for at the wage you were hired for and are taxed on. They don't get paid as a tipped wage like a server. They get paid like the park housekeeping people and other workers, do you tip those cleaners everyday? Paying for someone's coffee or helping someone with their luggage is kindness.

I lean more towards this side. I am a housekeeper for a family of 2 adults, 2 teens, 2 dogs and a cat. I get paid a fair wage. The family has never tipped me and I have cleaned up some major disgusting messes from humans and animals alike lol. I took the job bc it's good money and one day a week. When I go to hotels I generally clean up after my own family. If there was a big mess like vomit well then perhaps I'd leave a tip. I think the mouse keepers greatly appreciate tips (who wouldn't!) but it's their job. A nice appreciated note would be great in my opinion. Like thanks for the towel animals, my child will never forget it! Hey if you have the extra cash it's your money, tip. If not, oh well!

I tip $5 per night at values, $10 per night at moderates and $20 per night at deluxe resorts.

Makes sense to me. Do you tip the same at California Grill as you do at Crystal Palace?

you aren't comparing the same thing

It isn't any harder to make a bed in the $300 a day room than the $100. They don't do any more. They are the same housekeepers, cleaning the same number of toilets.

In a rest you tip based on price because there is usually more involved in a longer fancier meal and less table turnover. They do more.

They don't do more at a moderate than at a value. same beds and carpet and toilets.

I am kind and generous. I just don't tip mousekeeping.

Thank you.

We are kind and generous. We give money on a regular basis. Not tipping Mousekeeping or any other non-tipped position at Disney doesn't make us unkind or ungenerous.
