how much do meals cost in disney world, in the parks i mean. im going to be there for three days and will most likely be eating lunch and dinner in the parks. i may even brings snacks and just eat those til dinner... help me!

I think all the food at WDW is expensive( a bottle of water at Epcot is $2.50). Even the fast food is sometimes double what you pay at home)I paid $5.08 for a sausage biscuit and tater tots at the fast food place at WL a couple of weeks ago--no drink!) If you go to the nice restaurants, it will be high. A lot of the food is good though, and some of it is very, very good. To save money you could go off-site for meals, or you could go to a grocery store and get cereal and the makings for sandwiches and keep it iced down in a cooler in your room.

Moving to the Restaurants Board so the thread will get more attention. :)

Expensive or not depends on your perspective. I've never thought it to be expensive. Portions, in my experience, are large, even at the fast food places. And the food seems to run about what I'd pay for similar meals at home

Check out the menus and see.

On my first trip to Disney I thought the places would be too expensive so we never even ventured there. Ate all meals outside the place. On my second trip I did a lot of research online and found it all to be about the same,
For my birthday we did the Crystal Palace for lunch. All you can eat buffet for 16 bucks. We had lunch with Winnie the Pooh and all his little friends. Mind you we had no kids in our party. It was the hit of my trip.
We also ate at a place in Mexico which the name escapes me. It was great. Nice and quiet. Volcano in the background was nice viewing.
Next trip all my places to eat will be in the parks.

EPCOT Food TIP

Eat breakfast in your room, snack during the day (or do the ice cream social at Garden Grill), eat a late lunch at an EPCOT buffet - prices are much cheaper and most serve lunch until 3:30 or 4:00.

What we did on our last trip was to eat a very large breakfast....if you are going to be in the Epcot resort area try Spoodles...the best breakfast pizza/flat bread....very good, large and very good price.
We then pretty much skipped lunch except sometimes a light snack. Then go for a late lunch....cheaper than dinner and pretty much the same food choices.
Enjoy!

I'll second PigPen. If you have breakfast in your room. A snack around lunch, you can do a late lunch and have basically one meal in the parks - if staying on a budget is important. This can also be a good way to manage time, since even fast food involves taking a break. Eat your late lunch around 2:00 pm and you'll be finishing just as the crowds start to thin.

We were at the World in Aug. we were there for 9 days and I cant believe how much money we spent on food.
I thought I would save us a ton of money by going to the grocery store and buying a toaster, so we could have waffles, toast, cereal, milk and juice. (We had a refrigerator in our room).
We did eat almost every morning in our room, however I thought our meals were expensive. We ate at Fultons, (which was terrible and expensive) The Flying Fish ( Didnt care for it), Wolfgang Pucks (was really terrible and will never eat there again). Yes these are expensive places but my daughter and I usually shared a meal and we skipped lunch most days.
We usually spent at least 70.00 or more on meals.
I guess if you can eat McDonalds everyday you can eat cheap. The food in the parks are expensive. Bottled water is very expensive.
Had a good time, but spent alot on food.
We also ate at the restaurant at WL a few times and it is expensive. JMO

We do similar to crisi and pigpen suggest. However since we hit the parks very early we would wiat for a late lunch. Anyway we eat cereal, breakfast bars etc in the room around 7 am. By 11:30 we are ready for a break so I make a PS for lunch (usually a buffet). Then we can usually eat very light for dinner (counter service) or grab a WDW snack and then if we are hungry back in the room I bring plenty of "healthy" snacks (yogurt, cheese sticks, carrot sticks etc).

As for prices It really depends on where you are use to eating. We don't eat at McD's often at home, so why would I pay 25% more to eat at the one at WDW? The burgers at Pecos Bills are much better.
For example a Mc Donalds 4 piece nuggest happy meal at AK is 3.79 . The 1/2CheeseBurger with fries is 6.49.
At Peco's Bill's the kids meals are 3.49 and the 1/2 Cheese Burger and fries (or carrots) 6.59.

My favorite at Peco's Bills is the Kit Carson Chicken Salad for 6.49. I would pay that much for a comparable chicken salad at Chili's or Applebee's.

Other less expensive ideas inside the parks
Epcot
Beef curry over rice at Yakitori House $5.95 ... all meals there are in the 5-8$ range.
Electric Umbrella .. Burger andd fries 5.59 , grilled chicken and fries 6.59

MGM

ABC commissary...
Fish and Chips - $6.29
Chicken Yakitori - $6.59 - (skewered chicken, marinated & grilled in sweet teriyaki sauce, served on steamed white rice with Asian slaw)
Feijoada - $5.29 (Brazilian entree of stewed beef, pork and black beans with steamed white rice)

AK
Tusker house
Grilled Salmon served with rice and fresh seasonal vegetables $7.99
1/2 Rotisserie Chicken served with garlic mashed potatoes and fresh seasonal vegetables $7.99

At least in the Atlanta area these prices are very comparable.
As my DH just pointed out. Trying going to Six Flags or some other amusement park. A burger alone is 6-7 with out the toppings bar at Pecos Bills. He even pointed out that while the buffets are a little more compared to ouside the world, whre else can you dine with Pooh or Mickey. We spend about 70-80 on a big meal for our family of 4 at WDW and 20-30 on counter service(2 adults, one teen that is adult prices and a 5 yr old). Not bad in my book, especially whne I look at the prices at other tourist attractions.

I have $900 budgeted for food for our upcoming trip. When I look at that amount, I feel dizzy (jk), but I want to be realistic. There are 4 of us, two adults, a 5 year old and a 20 month old that can eat like a 3 year old sometimes. I am planning on bringing cereal and breakfast bars for the AM and we have no plans on eating breakfasts out. I am also going to stop at a grocery store for a case of bottled water and we are getting our refillable mugs ($22 total)at the CR first day for soda and coffee. I am budgeting $25 per day on our counter service meal and $75 per day for our nicer meal. Some days that will be less cause we don't have a nicer meal scheduled. But we are eating at several nice restaurants (Ohana, Chef Mickey's, Shula's, Bistro de Paris, Whispering Canyon...) plus Hoop Dee doo. I just want to be realistic so I'm not getting a headache every time we eat. When I looks at our plans it seems like all we're going to do is eat! I would much rather exaggerate our food costs, than get there and realize I was underestimating. I do plan on sharing some meals with either my Mom or my husband, or having the kids share a kids meal since everyone says portions are humongous. Or me share one of my meals with one of my kids, etc. Long story short, definitely check out WDWIG restaurant menus- they have been awesome to a planner like myself, be realistic in knowing what your family will like to eat, and have fun. I know it's something I really have to relax on, cause if it were up to me, we would be doing a lot more counter service, but my husband really enjoys the dining aspect of vacation, so I'm compromising. :p
