I am looking into a 60 hour program that costs $34,000 and I can't believe how much it costs! Is this normal? What is the average costs? About how much did you pay? Thanks!

that is not bad.. considering that undergrad is $30-45,000 per year. Plus George Washington is $90K per year for grad..

I just looked into several local programs - they were all between 18-25K.

And I thought that was expensive! :confused3

The cost is all over the place, depending on what you want to study and where. Private schools are going to cost you more than public ones in most cases.

Look at programs that are specifically designed for adult learners; a lot of those cost less than traditional enrollment.

I did mine a century ago, LOL, but the state university I went to currently charges $2326 for a 15 credit-hour semester if you are a state resident.

UMKC is $4933 for a 15 credit-hour semester. KU is $2295 for a 9-hour semester. (Those are state-resident rates.)

Mine ran me less than that one. :rotfl:

I think it's pretty regional and dependent on how many hours your program requires.

Depending upon the degree it could be worth it. If it's an MSW then think long and hard about it. :)

My MFA cost me close to $35k. My MBA is costing me $18k, and that's only because UPR is ridiculously cheap to attend.

Mine cost a little under $500 a credit hour, so I'd say it was nearly $20,000.

Mine was at a state school back in the late 80s and it was maybe 3000 or so.

I had a fellowship the first year and then funding after that. You might be surprised the fellowships that are out there. Does your school offer some sort of funding as a teaching or research assistant?

I had a fellowship for my MBA--no tuition costs plus I got a check for $550 every month!

My masters was 34 hours. What subject area requires 60?

Mine is roughly 35,000 to do. My husbands program was about 20,000.

My program (I start Feb. 1) is $330 a credit, 33 credits. It's an online program for educators.

Mine cost $30k. Thank goodness I was on scholarship and I only had to pay 25% of that!pixiedust:

0. I was GTA or GRA the whole time so my school paid the tuition and a 1000 a month stipend. This is in the Midwest though.

Wow, I thought $8,000 was bad! I am getting a Masters in Montessori Education through an online program at St. Kates University. I start in July.

Depends on your field, I am finishing a PhD in engineering and they pay your tuition and a stipend around 20k. This is standard for the sciences. However, look into fellowships, scholarships, and contact the department. The department may sponsor you, have teaching assistantships or alumni scholarships. And follow your dreams....a lot of work, but so worth it. Cheers!

dh will be begining one that results in both a masters in education as well as a teaching certification. total cost is right around $15,000 if you pay with no scholarships or other reducing funds.

btw, if it's an msw program check with social services agencies in your region-there are gov. agencies that will not only pick up the entire tab for an msw but pay a living stipend for these (in exchange for so many years committment to working in child protective services). i think the majority of our the cps staff at the gov. agency i worked for did this-they worked the minimum number of years to qualify for forgiveness of the tuition/stipend during which they made enough money/gained enough professional experience to resign and hang up their own private practice shingles in counseling.
