How much do conventions affect the resorts??

We've stayed at CSR 3 times and we've seen some convention people on probably 2/3 trips, but they've never caused us any inconvenience. Once they had chairs and a tent set up on the beach area near the Cabanas where our room was, but it didn't bother us.

We haven't stayed at Coronado Springs, however we have stayed at the Contemporary and Boardwalk which are two of the other convention resorts and it's never been a problem. At the Contemporary most of the day those guests are in meetings that happen on the 2nd floor in those various board rooms or inside the convention center itself. At the Boardwalk their convention center is located by their bus station, so any meetings going on are taking place over there. Now I have read some posts on here from those who don't like seeing convention guests walking around the resorts because it takes away from the Disney magic, because they might be talking on their BlackBerry's. However sometimes those convention guests bring their familes down and make it a working vacation, plus they have just as much a right to walk around as the non convention guests. If someone saw me talking on my BlackBerry, writting an e-mail or text message that doesn't mean I am there on a convention, it's just the type of phone I have.

In general I think having lots of rooms for a convention means less crowded buses for the parks :thumbsup2 I just returned from a conference visit at Shades of Green. They did remove all the lobby furniture Mon-Thurs and set up tables and a buffet line which was odd when you walked through the lobby in park clothes and everyone else was in suits. In previous years they had set up a tent by the pool area for lunch. They did leave a letter in each room apologizing for the inconvenience. It was great though for buses even the early bus that is usually crowded was totally almost empty.

In 2006 we stayed at POR and there was a huge convention going on, not at the resort, but they were staying there. I remember reading it was one of the biggest conventions in Orlando, I just can't remember exactly which one it was. Anyway, I was really worried that it would be terrible at the resort due to this. But, it ended up being just fine. The worst part was that the pool area got really crowded at night.

We have also stayed at CSR when there were smaller conventions going on. Again, it was nothing that impacted us at all.

I guess there are times that it may cause a problem for some people, but for the times that we experienced convention crowds, everything was just fine! :)
