How much can I charge my friend per point when I transfer points to her to use?

My friend is using my DVC points for a two night trip to Beach Club in October for 2 nights. She wants to know how much she owes me. What can I fairly charge her per point? It is 32 points for the stay. A big thank you to anyone who can help me!!!

You really need to decide - some people don't charge anything for friends/relatives, some charge enough to cover their dues, some charge $10 (the "going rate" these days for rentals), some charge more or less than that.

There is no fair other than what you and your friend agree is fair.

Most owners seem to be charging $10/ppt. However, with friends, IMO, you have to be careful if you didn't discuss this ahead of time.

If it were me, I would just tell her to give you what she feels is fair. If it is more than what you would consider fair, you can always return it.

Good luck!

If it's a gift = $0
O/W I would say $10 is fair, they are saving big...you could show them exactly by plugging in their vacation and accomodations into Disney website...

An alternative would be to charge them the actual MF cost on the points involved.

According to Disney and our contract? $0. ;)
This is technically the correct answer.

Transferring points for money is prohibited, although rumor has it that it does occur from time to time.

Renting a reservation is fine, but for some reason, charging for a transfer is not okay. I know, makes no sense. Reslistically, it's unlikely that anyone would ever find out.

I thought you were not permitted to profit, but you can charge more than zero?

You cant engage in "commercial rental". Renting a few times a year, not a big deal. Renting more than 20 (per DVC), well, then it requires a second look.

I would break it down this way.

A good friend with little money... I would give the points free
A good friend who has money... I would charge, MF plus 1 or 2 dollars or
If I was going on the same trip I would give
them the points free but just tell them to pick up the next dinner bill.
A casual friend ---- I would charge 10 dollars a point.

She's going without you? I hope she knows that it's not like having a Disney reservation as far as cancelling. You two need to hash it out, better to do it before you booked, but now is better than later.

I do not charge friends. If a friend insists, I direct them to a rental agency or the DVC rent/trade board.

I just rented points at $12 a point. Well below the rack rate. How did the intitial conversation go where agreed to let her use/borrow the points? I would still draw up a contract.

Go to Disney site and see what that time cost for the place.

Charge half price?

Should be fair for everyone?

Really depends on how good of friends you are.

As to renting points - we were specifically told in 2006 when we took the tour that you could do anything you wanted with your points - rent them, sell them, gift them - anything! (As long as you aren't a commercial renter.) So I don't really get why people are being so weird about point rentals.

Hence the wink. Renting vs. transfers seem so much the same.

Renting is between you and the renter. Transfers involve you, the other member and Disney.

It's pretty simple. Disney doesn't want, "Hey DVC, Member ABC never paid me for that transfer you made for us. I want my points back."

OP, I'm confused. Is this a transfer or a rental to a non-member?

Thank you, I have always wondered why they have in the POS you can not be compensated for transfers.

I would probably charge a little less than the going rate, maybe like $7pp. I would at a minimum charge them at least the MF rate, unless it is a really good friend that you would normally give a gift to. Remember, even at the going rate of $10, $320 for 2 nights at Disney is a bargain!
