Our property tax last year was $5900 for a 2,000 square foot house in DuPage County (chicago suburbs), IL. We have an average 72x 170 lot. Our taxes a higher here than when we were in Cook Co - almonst double.
6%. Actually, I'm rounding. It's 5.88%. That includes all our taxes--school (which is what really kills us), MUD (also higher than average--lots of bonds), hospital, blah, blah, blah. It's a big reason why we are moving.
I was actually wrong about my total rate. It's $3.34, but still... wow!
My MUD is high too, but it's only .88 of my total rate. I'm supposed to be in one of the best school districts in Texas, and my school taxes are only $1.72.
You must be in the Hill Country. That is where I'm wanting to buy property. Tell me I'm wrong. Please?
$6800(school, state, village) WITH the star program(it takes off approx. $800) for a 1800 sqft house on a quarter of an acre. I'm in NY. New construction for a 2200 sqft house on the same lot goes for approx. $12,000!!! That's in a development in my village. Crazy if you ask me! I want to live with some of you with the taxes under $2000!!!
We are moving and all the houses we are looking at the average taxes are $7000. This is for small houses on small lots, and houses that are very old!!!
WOW! I had no idea that property taxes were sooo high any other parts of the country. I was reading this to some people at work and was shocked to say the least. My taxes last year was 386.00 for 2000 sg foot house and 36.5 acres!!!! I live in the country so no city tax.
