How many vehicles does your household have?

We have 3 cars: DH drives a Ford Escape Hybrid; I drive a manual Passat, and our beast van used to pull our camper is in dry dock! :sunny:
(Cannot tell you how much $$ we have saved on gas since DH got his hybrid and I now drive his Passat--the van never comes out anymore if we can help it.)

3

1991 Toyota Landcruiser and an older Chevy Astrovan for daily driving and a 1998 Ford cargo van which we call the Blue Beast because it hauls everything.

I am salivating to get a new car. :crazy2: We need safer, more efficient cars and better mileage.

We have 4 cars for 4 people in my house. Everyone works different schedules so it is almost impossible to have any less. If gas was to go that high it would be, well sucky, but we would deal. We would be more concious of our travels. Me and my brother both pay our own gas and insurance and car repairs so our parents aren't burdend with that. And our cars aren't the gas guzzlers...a 95 Pontiac Grand Am and 97 Honda Civic. My parents vans are the ones that eat all the gas.

We have one car right now (mine, all mine! ;) ) DH takes public transit to work, which he hates. I can guarantee you that once he gets out of school and has a full-time salaried job, a car is going to be his first purchase!

we have 2 cars, one for each of us. We both work a lot, we need 2 cars.

We have 2 cars but could get by with 1 if we had to, it would be an inconvenience but we could do it. DH and I work about 5 miles apart.

Gas around here right now is between $1.99-$2.04

My Explorer is 10 yrs old with only 124,000 mi but I want to start looking into a new vehicle next year.

We have two older cars, but could get away with only having one. My dh rides a bike to work every day. I stay home with my dd. So today when there is no place to take her. Both cars won't leave the garage.

Four...all paid for. I drive the van so that I can carpool when necessary. We also have the Accura that DH bought right out of college in 1990. The little Mazda truck that DH drives to haul junk or save gas when he has to go to the other base. It doesn't have AC and makes alot of noises. We don't expect it to last much longer. ;) The Explorer is still around because we need it to haul the boat. DH uses it on business trips too. The nice thing is that when one of the cars goes into the shop, I have another car to use.

DH and I share a car, but we get to our jobs via train. We commute in together in the morning, and then he takes a later train home at night than I do.

We have two vechiles - I have a 2005 mini van and DH has a 2001 pickup truck. Both use too much gasoline!

DH and I have 4 vehicles and a motorcycle between us. We each had a pickup when we got married, and have not gotten rid of one yet (once we have kids, my truck will have to go. The back seat isn't big enough for a car seat) I drive 40 miles one way to work, so we kept his 1995 Escort for a commuter car for me. He works as a plumber, and found he was carrying way too many tools in his truck (and supporting several large oil companies too :) ). He found a used diesel ambulance really cheap, so he uses that as a work truck.

We're planning to keep them all for now - we'll see how things change when we have kids, and I;m not communting as much as I am now.

Two. I commute 65 miles south and DH commutes about 30 miles east, so commuting together isn't really an option. :teeth: We couldn't get by with 1 car. We have done it if one car is being worked on, but then I usually just take the day off of work and give DH the car. :goodvibes

Two cars. No doubt. Dh just changed jobs. Which meant he lost his car (it was a company car) and just having only one car on the weekend about killed us.

We live in a sprawling subburb. You have to drive just about almost everywhere. We have 3 kids that need to go to their places (school, doctor, playdates, other activities), I have errands to run and DH needs a car for work. He'll technically be working out of the house, but as a consultant, he'll have meetings all over the place.

3 cars and 2 boats. The boat's are the killers, we're already paying close to $3.00/gallon. 200 gallon tank

I already answered - we have three. I just wanted to add though that we used to live in a house where it would have been easy to have just one.

Before dh had a free parking spot at work, I used to drop him at work on my way and pick him up on my way home. It worked out perfectly. When I became a SAHM, he took the bus. From our house he had a choice of walking a block either way and catching one of two buses that went straight from our house to where he worked. If he needed the car, I could have walked to the grocery store in a pinch.

However, once we moved further into the suburbs (ha ha - our town wasn't exactly huge to begin with!) in search of better schools - that was no longer a possibility. Although public transit still exists, it is 1 1/2 miles to the nearest bus stop. My kids can't even walk to school.

My parents live in a smaller town with no public transit, but they easily downsized to one car when they retired. I always walked when I was a teenager and easily found summer jobs, etc. that were within walking distance. My kids won't really have that option, so we hope to keep an extra vehicle in the mix for them to borrow.

I think it really depends where you live.

You counting just the ones you drive regularly, or all of your vehicles ;) ?
We have two that we drive on a regular basis. Then we have several others that we use on the 'farm' (we own acreage) and we have two old cars that we show.
We don't intend on getting rid of any of them.

I have my Buick and DH has his Minivan which he uses for work.
He has his Cadillac for weekends and golfing..dd has a Neon for college and we have 2 classic collector cars for parades and pleasure.

DH and I each have a car. We could definitely get by with just 1, though. DH takes the train to work and walks to the station. I drive to work (20 miles each way). It's a nice luxury to have 2 cars, but it's definitely not a necessity.

We only have one car and we've been in this situation for a year or so.

We have a car payment on our van and I refuse to get into another car payment. I guess we could pluck down some money on a used car, but we couldn't afford more than $1000 and then you'd have to worry about repairs, it breaking down, etc.

It was inconvenient at first, but now I'm used to it. DH and I both work within walking distance of our home...although, who the heck wants to walk in Buffalo in the winter???

We all leave the house together. Dh drops me off at work, drops the twins at school and the baby at daycare then goes to his job (self employed business owner). Then at 3:15 he picks up the boys, picks me up at 3:30 and then the baby and drops us off at home. He returns to until around 6:30.

It works for us.

We could if we really needed to. I drive past DH's work to get to mine. I could drop him off and pick him up. He'd have to go in early and leave late though!
