How Many Trips Can I Milk?~A PTR

Oh no, thats never good. I 'accidently' did the same on our last trip, and ended up with a huge bag full of them. And what makes it even worse is I'm not the only addict in the house, Nick is too. You can see some of mine on my pre-trippie, and the thing is half of them need others to complete the set which means I HAVE to buy more. Believe me I dont want to but I HAVE to :sad2: .

Maybe we should set up some PA meetings, Pinaholics Anonymous :confused3

Oh no, sets! I'm trying to just dabble in these pins. That way, I won't be too concerned about making sure I have complete sets. We will see how long I can resist the temptation.

NO!!! You can't leave us with this tonight! I can't possibly wait until tomorrow, or even later, to find out all the fun pin news!!!!!! :sad1:

Mwah Ha Ha.....Very evil PTR writer laugh....:stir:

I love the confession. We will see if we can resist the obsession this week.

Oh no, you said try to resist only THIS WEEK! :lmao:

When I did my College Program we got a few pin grab bags and a few special CP only pin parties. Needless to say I have an abundance of pins, too. I love them, though!

I'd love to see those! They must be neat. I'm really hoping I can just stick with trading these 25, but we'll see...

MUST...SEE...PICTURES...OF...PENS...IN...GRAB...BAGS!!!

Brittbritt, where did you get your Tinkerbell lanyard? I looked at mousepinsonline (just looking and all :)) but didn't see any lanyards. :sad1:

Oh, yes, well.....For that, I went on Ebay. I would only justify the buying of the pins if I would have a cute way to wear them. Once I saw the Miss Bell lanyard, it was a double purchase day----the pins on mousepins and the lanyard on Ebay. All for Faith of course...

Good morning!
As promised, here are the pin pics:

Disclaimer: I am not a professional pin collector. I do not know the estimated 'value' of any of these pins. For all I know, mousepinsonline gathered 25 of the crappiest, cheapest pins available and mailed them to me. I just think they're shiny and pretty, and I will leave further investigation of them alone.

End of disclaimer, now just rambling: My initial reaction after opening the box the pins came in was to immediately order more. I really did have to stop myself! I just kept telling myself if I wanted to get other pins, I'd have to wait to trade in Disney. I am excited about doing that. I don't think I'll trade with other guests, just CMs. Anyone have any funny trading stories to share?

Here's the whole lot:

DSCN1604.jpg

For those of you eagle eyes out there, you may have noticed only 24 pins in the pic. That's because I of them had fallen on the floor. I didn't notice until after I had taken all the pics and uploaded them into the computer. I wasn't about to go back and take them all over again for just one pin. So, imagine if you will a cute, youngish looking Donald Duck wearing a hat with his head in front a a blue t-shirt. That's elusive pin #25.

You eagle eyes may also notice I got two of the same pirate Dales (lower right). The mousepinsonline website promise no duplicate pins. Ooops...

Since I'm a nerd, I've already separated out my favorites. As you can see, I have wide-ranging interests. I like evil pins, WTP pins, Tink pins, and pirate pins.

DSCN1605.jpg

These are the ones I've set aside that I know Faith will like:

DSCN1606-1.jpg

There's really no rhyme or reason with these. I assume she'll just think they're 'cute'. She may also use them to trade.

Here are the pins I have rejected from any remote chance of being kept. No offense to any of you out there who may love these pins, I just didn't 'get them'.

DSCN1607.jpg

I have two main problems with these pins. First of all, Pooh looks frightening. Cowboy is just not his thing. Secondly, if Donald is truly going surfing, why the no bathing suit? I get the whole "no pants" thing, but he took the time to put on a bathing suit top. Would bottoms really have been that much of an inconvenience for him? :confused3

Needless to say, these pins will be used as traders. I'm sure CMs will then take them to the place where all lame, rejected pins go---wherever that may be...

Final pin pic:

DSCN1610-1.jpg

It's a DCL pin! When I first got these pins, this one was originally in the reject pile. I had no use for it. Now that we've booked the cruise, it has a special place in my pile.

That's right! We BOOKED the cruise!!!
I thought we were crazy for booking this far in advanced. (It doesn't leave until 10/22/09!) Then I looked at the DCL message board on here, and I realized there are people already booked for trips later than mine! :scared1:

I am glad we booked early. After reading some of the DCL tips on here, I was able to book what others recommended was a perfect room. After looking over the ship's plans, I agree. That room would have been snagged by a Dis'er, I'm sure, if we'd waited.

Well, that's about all for now.

I will try once again to be evil and leave you with...

Will I be going to Disney Princesses on Ice in the upcoming weeks?

Just checking in! popcorn:: I am a little behind so I need to catch up but I did read your latest post! :flower3:

Sounds like you are having lots of fun with planning and your new pins! I love collecting pins. However, being the anal person I am, I leave them at home for fear that I would lose one of them, so I don't usually actually trade. However, this trip, I have a few duplicates from a pin trading set I bought so I will part with those. :rotfl2: I have two really special pins that my husband bought me at Hong Kong Disneyland that I won't even take out of the packages. =D Yup, I am that weird.

As always you had me laughing with your comments on the pins -- especially the surfing Donald. :rotfl:

Congrats on booking the cruise!!! :cheer2: That's so neat! Have you been over to the cruise forums and seen all the threads about decorating your cabin doors? It's just too cool. I have started preliminary pricing/daydreaming on the Nov. 5, 2009 cruise :rolleyes1 . I can't decide between an outside stateroom with porthole or an inside stateroom. I think I need the Passporter Guide to the DCL (just released) to help me decide. ;)

We decided on an inside stateroom after reading some of the posts here and keeping in mind that it's only for 3 nights. If it was any longer (or to a place with AMAZING views, like Alaska), we'd splurge for the balcony.

We chose room 7629---there are floor plans on the DCL thread if you want to check it out. As you can see, it's right next to this so-called "secret deck 7 verandah" where not many people go, and it's also just two floors away from BBB. Without this website, I would have put no thought into which room to request, and I would have been happy with whatever room I got. After reading how many people recommended this location, I would have been really disappointed if we couldn't get that room! What's that saying....oh yeah, ignorance is bliss!

I definitely need to go find that thread now! I guess I didn't realize you could actually pick the room you wanted. I have so much to learn about a Disney cruise. Thankfully, I have about a year and a half to figure it all out.

I'm all caught up now...great PTR...you have to keep updating us on that book as you read (and no you can't take a bus from the gate at MK to the TCC -- you have to either take the monorail or ferry)

I could be wrong because I not a pin trader but isn't there something special about the pins that have the golden mickey on them (like on the teddy bear's foot) Anyone know what I mean?

Ok, so I've just skimmed through the first few pages of your trip report and hope to get caught up in the next few days. I love your Croc Mary Janes, but agree that Crocs in general are pretty darn fuggly. But, boy oh boy, are they comfy! I also agree with your pin rejects....Cowboy Pooh is just wrong for so many reasons.

And your hubby's red thong man hooker....:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Congrats on booking a cruise...you'll love it....:thumbsup2

I am very excited. We've cruised with both RCCL and Princess before, and we actually found we were somewhat bored. GASP! I know, I know...But you see, we don't gamble, we're not big drinkers, I am intelligent to know my odds of winning bingo, and therefore, stay away. We just found it not to offer us a whole lot. I'm hoping DCL will be different. Any input from seasoned DCL cruisers would be appreciated. ;) Hint hint.

Hi BritBrit---
Just stopping in to say Hi and that my goal in the next couple of days is to get caught up with your PTR!

Hello! Good luck getting through this nonsense! :goodvibes

Just checking in! popcorn:: I am a little behind so I need to catch up but I did read your latest post! :flower3:

Trading is slightly intimidating to me, but I've got to get rid of these pin rejects somehow! I am worried about losing some of the pins. I've read where some people have said the mickey backers tend to fall off. Maybe I won't wear them on a lanyard then. Maybe I'll just keep them with me in a small bag?

I definitely need to go find that thread now! I guess I didn't realize you could actually pick the room you wanted. I have so much to learn about a Disney cruise. Thankfully, I have about a year and a half to figure it all out.

I didn't think I could pick the room either, but stepmom made it happen! The cruise thread is full of LOTS in "interesting" info. For example, go search for the 'exotic rasul' if you want to have quite the read! ;) Who knew Dis'ers were so adventurous???

I'm all caught up now...great PTR...you have to keep updating us on that book as you read (and no you can't take a bus from the gate at MK to the TCC -- you have to either take the monorail or ferry)

I could be wrong because I not a pin trader but isn't there something special about the pins that have the golden mickey on them (like on the teddy bear's foot) Anyone know what I mean?

I don't know a whole lot about the pins----obviously. Heck, I bought them without even seeing them! I think they're called hidden mickey pins. (Someone jump in here if I'm incorrect.) I don't know if that makes them special or not. When I first saw that teddy bear, I thought I had been fooled. My first thought was, "That's not a Disney pin!" I guess it is though because it says Disney on the back.

Be careful what you wish for! I should have my next book review installment up by the end of the day. Wouldn't you think the author would want accuracy in this book? I didn't think bus travel from MK to the TTC was possible, but thanks for confirming for me! :thumbsup2

And your hubby's red thong man hooker....:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Oh, there's another funny hooker story. (I hate to keep telling them because I don't want this thread to become all about that :guilty:.) Here goes: He was working with a partner this weekend (which he NEVER has to do). They were picking up "ladies of the night" together-----GROSS. DH likes to get right down to making the deal without wasting time, but the guy he was working with was a 'backstory' kind of guy. DH had left the car for no more than 3 min. to pick up cigarettes for the nice young lady, and by the time he'd gotten back into the car, quite the story had been concocted. The woman turns to him and says, "So, your friend tells me you two are in town for a reunion." (DH and partner are about 20 years apart in age.) DH stumbles through a, "Yeah, sure." Come to find out, DH is supposedly a retired lieutenant general something or other, and the partner is some former naval superior officer. It turns into a half hour of DH trying to get this convoluted story straight before the arrest could be made. No one ever said these ladies were smart, because this one should have been suspicious right off the bat!

To me, it looks like Cowboy Pooh might have been one in a set of Disney Village People pins, no?

Feel free to skim through or skip this detailed review of "The Kingdom Keepers."

Let's see...Where did we leave off? Chapters 6-10!

Quick recap:

Finn and his new friend Amanda must search for the identities of the other DHIs in order for all 5 to go to sleep at the same time. Only by falling asleep within 30 min. of one another will they be able to meet up (in partially holographic form) inside the MK. Their goal is to find out who the Overtakers are and try and devise a way to stop their scheme of taking over the MK (and eventually the world....MWAH HA HA!).

Longer spewing of things that annoyed me in these chapters:

Consider yourself warned! This is long!

Chapter 6: Amanda and Finn skip school
*In another unrealistic scene, Amanda and Finn skip lunch and hop a bus to a neighboring middle school. Evidently no one from their middle school saw them leave campus or wait at the public bus stop in the middle of the day. :confused3
*They've already had 5 class periods BEFORE lunch???
*Not wanting Finn to take the rap if they get caught, Amanda states, "I'm a big girl, Finn." How completely mature of her, and she's only 12.
*No one thinks it's strange for two obviously young kids to NOT be in school in the middle of the afternoon? The driver? The passengers? We're all just ok with this?
*Apparently lunches at Finn's school are an hour long---I WISH! They have enough time to wait and catch a bus, have 20 min. to spend at the other school, and wait for, catch, and ride the return bus. Right....
*Finn is immediately noticed at the other school as a DHI. Really? Finn's on the ball though. He's quick to don sunglasses to make him less noticeable in the cafeteria full of kids NOT wearing sunglasses. :cool2:
*What the heck are jams, and why's everyone wearing them?
*Mission Accomplished: Amanda locates a DHI----Charlene (the blond beauty)

Chapter 7: Charlene gives a cold shoulder
*Does anybody actually say things like, "Back in a whack?"
*Charlene is inexplicable annoyed at seeing Finn at her school. Maybe Amanda was up to her old hip hugger tricks again, and Charlene was getting all jealous?
*"Charlene was the kind of girl you might see on a cereal box." WTH? As in, Charlene looks like your average missing child? Oh wait, that would be a milk carton. Never mind.
*Whoa Pearson, slow down on your plugs for the VMK.
*2 For 1 Deal: Finn finds out Charlene (blond beauty) meets up with Willa (smart Asian girl*) on VMK. If you're keeping track, that means only 2 more will need to be located. *These are Pearson's descriptions.
*Charlene gets all ominous at the end of the chapter. "NO ONE can know about this. It isn't safe." Dun dun dun!!!

Chapter 8: In the MK after dark
*Someone from the DHI team called Finn's mom and ratted him out about being at the MK with Amanda. Who gets grounded for going to the MK?
*Mom wants some quality bonding time with Finn over a Simpson's episode. Awww, mom.
*Mom thinks Finn kept going to the MK a secret from her b/c he's embarrassed about Amanda. Doesn't mom know Finn's not "big on girls"?
*Finn gets all embarrassed when he winds up in the park in his jammies. One can only hope they were footie pajamas.
*When Finn arrives at the park, Wishes has just ended, yet the park is empty. Really, did no one do any research here?
*I take personal offense to Piglet being described as an oversized rat. As if!
*We learn in this chapter that the magic of Disney has two sides----both good and evil. Walt, a dipper in black magic? According to Pearson...
*Hey, at least this chapter came with a cool story about the Fantasmic dragon setting Mickey on fire.
*Charlene arrives at the park w/ Philby (the possibly British/Australian/New Zealand boy---only one more DHI to find!)
*Pirates pirate: from POTC show up in the street pushing around blue cars from Buzz LY and try to take Finn down with one of the car's lasers. (No mention is made of why these cars are being pushed around or what the pirates plan on doing with them. You'd think the cars from the TTA would have been a better choice. They're all hooked together already, and they probably would have been easier to get off their track. Oh, wait, they don't have weaponry. Ooh, wouldn't it have been fun for Finn and his fellow DHIs to steal the cars from the Speedway and drive around in them?)
*Thousands of Space Ranger Spin points later, Finn takes control of the car with Philby's (obscure identity Philby) help. In a hail of lasers, Finn takes the pirates down at their peg legs. Arrghhh!
*Even this valiant display doesn't impress Charlene. :sad2:
*Mmmm...free Mickey bars...:mickeybar
*The kids decide to hold a meeting in the CBJ. Glad there's finally a use for that attraction!
*The DHIs learn the Overtakers are eventually planning to unleash their evil outside of the park----Imagine, pirates in the grocery store, Maleficent running through the mall! Oh, the horror!
*A recent hurricane that lost power over land (they ALL do that Pearson) is the real clincher in getting the DHIs to want to work together.
*From this moment on, every time the DHIs go to sleep, they'll wake up in the MK. Sign me up!

Chapter 9: Finn's mom, the pushover
*Of course Finn can't tell his mom the truth about the laser burn he's now sporting, so he makes up some kind of story about sneaking out and getting burned by a cigarette. Good thinking Finn! That should go over well with mom!
*Finn's mom chooses not to tell dad about his "sneaking out." Why, is dad all crazy and unpredictable? Sounds like Finn comes from quite the dysfunctional family.
*Finn's mom is WAY more understanding than I think I'd be if I found out my 12 year old snuck out their window, hung out with mean bullies, was around cigarettes, and stayed out until after 12. It must be all that Simpson's watching mom does.

Chapter 10:
Creepily Amanda has managed to locate both Willa's and Maybeck's (the Baptist) information by the time Finn shows up at school the next day. Hmmm...yet another female trick, Finn?
*Finn passes out unexpectedly in the hallway. Do nights at the MK cause low blood sugar? Too many Mickey bars?
*Amanda seems to know WAY more than she should. When oh when is Finny going to look past her beauty and start asking some questions?

Ok, that's it for today.

I can't believe your still reading that book.......sometimes I do that hoping it gets better.

I've had to fight my oldest and my mother in law off of that book! I told ds that we'd read it as a family . I'll have to let you know what my kids think of it!

She was the only member in my wedding party to wear gloves. Reasoning: "Sissy, that's just what ladies do."
DSC_3705.jpg

I just found your TR and even though I'm only 1/2 way through, I had to comment on your sister. I love her being such a girly girl! Since moving to Florida, it's easier to be more casual but growing up in Memphis, you had to dress properly even at the grocery!

This is soooo funny.
**What the heck are jams, and why's everyone wearing them?

Jams are/were long shorts (think board shorts) in really ugly colors and patterns...I wore them in middle school too...in the 80's!!!

*Mom wants some quality bonding time with Finn over a Simpson's episode. Awww, mom.

I guess Finn is too old for Playhouse Disney

*We learn in this chapter that the magic of Disney has two sides----both good and evil. Walt, a dipper in black magic? According to Pearson...

Well you know his head is frozen someplace so he can be brought back to life

*Charlene arrives at the park w/ Philby (the possibly British/Australian/New Zealand boy---only one more DHI to find!)

Funny name for a kid since Australia has a rabbit called a Bilby (I learned that on the DIS this week)

*Of course Finn can't tell his mom the truth about the laser burn he's now sporting, so he makes up some kind of story about sneaking out and getting burned by a cigarette. Good thinking Finn! That should go over well with mom!

And this is a book for teens??? Finn's next excuse will have to do with unprotected sex or getting drunk!

*Finn passes out unexpectedly in the hallway.

See above for his excuse

Who publishes this great American novel?

To me, it looks like Cowboy Pooh might have been one in a set of Disney Village People pins, no?

Oh my! Now my interest is really piqued...

:rotfl2: about Pooh as part of the Village People? Which ones would Piglet, Tigger, and Eeyore be?

Overall: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

You know I can't resist commenting:

1. The whole skipping middle school thing bothered me, too, because I could not for one second believe that they could pull it off and not get caught. There is just no way!
2. Thought the same thing about the comment about the hurricane -- elementary meterology at work there -- obviously Pearson doesn't understand hurricanes nor did he bother to research them.
3. Hmmm...another reference to smoking by Pearson...was Phillip Morris lining his pockets in exchange for subliminal messages about underage smoking? ;)

I've had to fight my oldest and my mother in law off of that book! I told ds that we'd read it as a family . I'll have to let you know what my kids think of it!

I can't wait to hear! :)

Who publishes this great American novel?

Sadly, it's published by Disney editions.

I can't believe your still reading that book.......sometimes I do that hoping it gets better.

I know, I know, it's that whole once you've started it, you must finish it mindset.

I've had to fight my oldest and my mother in law off of that book! I told ds that we'd read it as a family . I'll have to let you know what my kids think of it!

We're starting to read it in class this week. I'm going to make sure I ask my kids what they think of it. They may not notice the gaping holes in plot! :goodvibes

:welcome: Faith is a hoot all around. She gets her mannerisms that I think are funny from my stepmother who was born and raised in Louisville, KY. Faith throws around words like petticoat and camisole like nobody's business! Thanks for reading!

This is soooo funny.

As much flak as Kingdom Keepers is getting from me, I must say....I like it   .

Disney! You'd think with all of those Imagineers, someone could have created something a little more, oh you know, MAGICAL?!

3. Hmmm...another reference to smoking by Pearson...was Phillip Morris lining his pockets in exchange for subliminal messages about underage smoking? ;)

I can't wait to hear! :)

Sadly, it's published by Disney editions.

I knew I wouldn't be the only one bothered by the school skipping scene. I mean, heck, I can barely ingest a sandwich and blink before lunch is over! Pearson must be one of those people who think teachers have easy, leisurely jobs. You know, the kind of people who say "Tsk, tsk, they have the whole summer off! What else do they want?"...I can't stand those people.

I have always said that there should be a reality show where people have to teach in a middle school. Kind of like Survivor, only instead of trying to survive the wilderness, contestants would have to survive working with 8th graders! :thumbsup2

I'm probably the worst person you could ever trust to keep a secret. My intentions are always good, but in the end, I about bust a gut trying to keep that secret inside. Take Christmas for example: Once DH's gift is bought and wrapped, I pepper him on a daily basis with questions like, "Don't you want to know what I bought you? Can't we open gifts now? I'll let you shake your gift if I can shake mine?" :hyper: Truly obnoxious behavior.

Even though I know this about myself, I still somehow thought I could keep a rather LARGE secret from DH. You see, he's a WL junkie. He loves the way it looks, the comfy chairs, the fabulous lobby with that gorgeous fireplace, the boat to MK. He even gets quite a kick out of the geyser. BUT, we've never stayed there. There's been several reasons for this: One mainly being that there are too many resorts and not enough time. Also, when it comes down to choosing between length of trip and quality of resort, more time at Disney always wins out.

So, I had worked out this whole surprise scenario for DH in my mind: Friday, July 25th is the last day of our trip. I imagined us packing up at POP and starting to pull out when lo and behold, I'd remember just one more ADR---breakfast at WCC. We'd drive over to WL, oohhh and ahhh over the woodsy beauty, and have a fantastic breakfast. On the way out of the restaurant, just as the true post-Disney blues were due to set in (yes, they can set in before one has technically left property ;) ), I'd lead DH over to the check in area and tell him, "It's a good thing I thought to book a room since we're too full to begin driving home now." DH would throw his arms around me lovingly and proclaim me the best DW a DH could ever ask for :love2: . He'd then surprise me with a dream Disney vow renewal and we'd immediately buy into DVC amid our euphoria. End of BrittBritt dream sequence. :cloud9:

First manner of business was to get a quote for July 25th at WL. Well, the number that I came face to face with on email was not for the faint of heart. It's unimaginable to me that people, number one, can afford to stay at these places, and number two, don't seem to bat an eye at the price. Of course I know that summer season is the most expensive. Of course I know DH and I could find much better rates for Fl. res./AP holders at other times of the year, but our trip is in July... What's a teacher who's married to a cop to do? Well, I did some fuzzy finagling of numbers in my mind, pre-spent some money I'll be receiving in June, and overall worked the fuzzy Disney math until I talked myself into the idea that paying the price of 8 tank-fulls of gas was worth DH's expression and loving reaction to the WL treat.

I believe this fantasy took place in my mind around 10 am this morning.
Fast forward a few hours, and I'm on the phone with DH while driving home from work. We're having some fairly normal conversation about his day/my day and how we're pretty sure Miss Botox has had the best day ever for the 1,985th day in a row. Now as this conversation is occurring, the only thing I could think of was the WL secret. I keep trying to resist the urge to blurt out my plotting and planning for the day, but I lose control of my faculties pathetically early. Before I can place my hand over my mouth to muzzle myself, I hear, "Guess what! I think we'll be able to stay at the WL in July!!! Aren't you so excited? Aren't I the best wife in the whole world?" :yay:

I believe I zoned DH out for a few minutes after that moment since I was already mentally adding up how much extra fun that one night at the WL would buy us in terms of new ADRs, more iron-on t-shirts, a possible double Wishes vacation...When I came to, DH was in mid-sentence, and all I caught was, "...too much money...already there for so long...not necessary...we'll have done all the parks..."

WHAT? This was not the reaction I was expecting! :confused3

Evidently DH has gotten all responsible on me and thinks we should be paying for Disney with actual money that we have, not hypothetical money that we may be getting in June.

Oh...:rolleyes1

Visions of loving hugs, vow renewals, and DVC contracts shattered, I ended the phone conversation with the sheer determination that next time, my secrets will be kept. :headache:

Saying no to WL over the phone when the vacay is over 4 months away is one thing. Do I think DH would have had the same reaction were he to be standing within that impressive WL lobby? I think not. Note to self: SHUT UP! :ssst:
