In our district (and this is for high school and middle school) - if you are more than 3 minutes late to a class, it is considered an absence.
After 7 absences in any class, both excused and unexcused, the student will need to produce a doctor's note or a court approval for the tardy/absence.

& I have one student who is late (sometimes just 10 minutes, other time...an hour or two) two - three times a week. One of those tardies is ALWAYS on a Monday
