I am not sure if this has been asked before.. I did a search but really couldn't find the exact answer I was looking for.

We are going away for 3 weeks and I thought that 2 checked suitcases plus 3 carry on and 3 personal (small backpacks) would be enough but now that I am actually starting to pack I am doubting my predictions. We are a family of 3 and between us there are 12 pairs of shoes going (runners for each of us, flip flops for each of us, water shoes for each of us, plus my toms and DD's toms and my vans) and I am pretty sure that I am going to need a suitcase for toiletries alone... sunscreen, makeup, face wash, night cream, eye cream, day cream, shampoo, conditioner etc.. Plus clothes.. I am planning on doing laundry every 6 days.

That sounds like a lot of luggage to deal with, even for 3 weeks. Especially if you are doing laundry. Wear your heaviest clothes to travel, that will cut down on the shoes and anything bulkier. Do you really need your VANS and your TOMS? TOMS and flops you can squish down fairly small so shouldn't take up much room.

We are a family of 4. When we go in warmer months, we take 2 suitcases (1 of them has an airbed in it though). The boys clothes and the airbed are in one, DH and I in the other. During colder months when clothes are more bulky, we take 2 large and 1 small suitcase. I pack about 5 days worth of clothes and try to make outfits as interchangeable as possible so we can do various combinations. I do laundry almost every day (we stay DVC with washer/dryer in room) so we always have plenty to pick from. For the plane, I take a larger "diaper" bag since we still have a toddler and DH takes a backpack with his medications some snacks/magazines, the Ipad, and DS9's stuff.

We travel fairly light and it still can get overwhelming with all the "stuff". I'd never be able to travel with multiple suitcases/bags per person.

We are a family of four we take two suitcases, two adult bags/backpacks and the kids each have their own backpack.
