How many owners per resort?

When we went through the presentation, I think our guide Byron stated that there are approx. 68,000 members.

Is there anywhere to find out how many owners per resort. Just curious to see if the population corresponds to number of homes per resort.

I haven't seen any statistic on this, but OKW would HAVE to have the most owners, since it is the largest and the oldest.

dianeschlicht--With all due respect, I don't think you can generalize like that.

Let's say there were 10,000 total points available at OKW and 5000 total points available at VWL.

At OKW let's say that 20 owners each bought 500 points.

At VWL let's say that 33 owners each bought 150 points.

As you can see, it's quite possible that there are more owners at VWL.

I know it's simplistic, but not unrealistic. Because OKW was first, and around for quite some time before BWV opened, many had bought fairly large contracts, plus added on already. Additionally many owners have added on small point amounts at VWL, VBR, and BCV to their existing BWV and OKW contracts. (I purposely left HH out, as I don't think there are many add-ons there, and the owners there are almost a different demographic it seems.)

It would be interesting to know the answer though :)

Got the answers you all want, straight from the DVC POS:

HHI-4313 members
OKW-26,936 members
BWV-19,373 members
WLV-6,944 members
VB-3,679 members

This was as of: March, 2002 was the last update.
Got this POS as of last week: July, 14, 2003 so it has not been updated in a while. Hope this helps!!

Thanks Deer!

I'd like to see those numbers with the BCV added.

Thanks for the numbers Dear Deer :)

Now we can see how many folks have the 8-11 month advantage on reservations.

Thanks again.

What's the POS?

Also I'm surprised at the numbers/rooms

Resort Owners Homes Owners per Home
HH 4313 102 42
OKW 29936 531 56
BWV 19373 383 51
WLV 6944 136 51
VB 3679 175 21

Another problem is that we've never really had a clear definition of what a "member" is. If one person owns a contract at OKW, an add-on at OKW and another add-on at Vero does that make them 2 members at OKW and a a member at Vero? If there's more than one name on the contract is that one member or two members? We haven't got a real definition and I suspect that we never will.

Pam, I think that's part of what I was trying to get at in my earlier post. There's just so many variables. Ah well, like you said, we may never know. :)

POS is short for Public Offering Statement, what you get when you close on a DVC property. It is a small book with even smaller writing!

Good answer, thanks for the information.:earsboy: :sunny: :sunny:  :earsgirl:

1) The number of owners at a particular resort has no meaning.
2) The only thing that counts is the number of sold points.
3) Points are reserved, not owners.
4) In addition, points may be borrowed, creating more demand.

5) Therefore, it is not a matter of how many owners, but of how many points are desired to be used for any given day or week or season or year. Mathematically speaking, any resort can be over-capacity for the year or under-capacity for the year based upon
. . . points use at that home resort
. . . points used at another DVC resort or cruise
. . . points traded
. . . points banked
. . . points borrowed
. . . points traded to non-DVC (eg. Interval International) *
. . . days or weeks taken by WDW for cash reservations

* Usually points traded to II would result in a like traded-in usage to counter-balance the traded-out points, so the net result is the same usage.

I do see what you mean, but with so many more units available at OKW, it would figure there would be more members. Of course, when many of us purchased at OKW, the minimum was 230 points instead of 150, so that could effect it as well.

RustyScupper is right. The number of points available IS the real issue.

The Rusty Scupper,

Thanks for raising some interesting points. However, My original question pertained to how many folks have the 8-11 month advantage. From that perspective your statement

"1) The number of owners at a particular resort has no meaning."

is wrong.

The owners put the points into reservations and the home resort owners have an 8-11 month advantage. Whether they choose to use that advantage, or not, does not change their capability.

I too believe this may be overstating the point, as the number of members, regardless of total number of points, will dictate traffic on the lines at MS and will determine how many people will be trying to get a particular type of accommodation for a particular time of year.

All I know is...there's a whole heap of us members (And I, for one, think it's pretty awesome) :)

Well, I do know there is 4,600,000 points sold at BWV. That also was in the POS.
