how many of you actually cook in kitchen?

I rarely cook at home. ( I did cook once this week and, did set off the fire alarm ) but I definately plan to do breakfast in the room. Even if it's just cereal and fruit and juice it'll be a big money saver.

I also wouldn't mind grilling steaks at the pool. Or more accurately I wouldn't mind my DH grilling steaks at the pool. :lmao:

For those who cook and fly in, do you do a grocery delivery or do you go to the store with a rental car?

Last year I went to the grocery store with a rental car. It took forever to find what I needed. Kids were tired and we were up and down the unfamiliar aisles.

This year I'll have a car but I also have a reservation with Marge to bring my groceries. I'm compiling a list at my leisure based on what I think I'll want to cook.

We're going out to 'Ohana on July 4 and hopefully Boma at some point, we'll be at AKV (no ADR for Boma though so maybe not), but it's just more relaxing to us after long days not to dine out every night.

For those that stay in 1br or bigger, do you actually cook in your kitchen?

Oh, absolutely... we love our food, and nobody can make a meal better than us. So, we're not usually going to pay someone to make a meal that we can make better. Actually, DW (Mary Beth) is the master chef. I'm just the kitchen help.

We always go to the same Publix and even have one of their discount cards. We find it is easier to always go to the same place, because we can find things easier. My only complaint about it is that they don't offer a choice between paper and plactic (only have plastic), so next time I'll be taking my permanent cloth grocery bags with me.

I'd probably leave mine in my DVC villa! I just got them and it's taking some time to remember to take them with me into the grocery(keep them in my car). I really like them because they sitting up in my trunk(not flopping all over with yogurt tubs all over by the time I get home).

We do breakfast in the room(we're not big breakfast eaters, cereal, yogurt and fruit). Plus I like to have a cup of good coffee to start my day.

I haven't gone yet, our first trip to SSR is in Nov/Dec. We plan on having coffee, tea and breakfast in the room every day and cooking dinner at least a few times while we are there. We opted for the one bedroom instead of the studio even though it's only going to be my Husband and myself for this trip mostly for the kitchen (the extra room will be nice too though).

We cook alot, breakfast lunch and dinner. Theres not a resturant in the world that can cook like my wife.

we're going for the first time - a 1BR at OKW (renting points) :cool1: I chose that over a studio in large part because of the kitchen. The ability to make our own food and save $$ was really the tipping point that is making this trip affordable for us. We do plan to eat dinners out 2 or 3 nights, but all other meals will be made in the room.

As my wife is on vacation I do the cooking !

Good for you! Do you do a lot of grilling or in the room cooking?

We are going in June and staying for 10 days. I'm planning to a few dinners in the room. I get really tired of eating out soo much. I think it will be refreshing to stay in a few times and cook. I'm likin the grilling by the pool idea! Do you need to buy charcoal or is it there ready to use?

We ...well I should say He does alot of cooking, but to be honest not so much to save $$ even though we do but for the fun of it.......He hits up a great seafood shop in Orlando, we grill steaks out. which allows us great chances to meet other DVC'ers. Try new exciting dishes we havent had....its a great rest from the parks when we break, we still eat out at our favs, but I would be so sad if we did not make our glowing drinks and great food that we do not alwys get to have when we are at home. The desserts....oh the desserts....if I come home without gaining a few lbs. I am disappointed!!!! LOL:rotfl2:

If you do enjoy a fun cocktail there is a party ABC store in the parking lot of the Winn Dixie thats about two miles from OKW/SSR.

We subscribe to the same school of thought...

You will need to buy it, but most supermarkets down there have these cool mini bags that you just place in the grill and light the bag. Works real nice and no leftovers to throw away. And no lighter fluid needed.

How cool it is that? :thumbsup2 That's HHI in case anyone was wondering.... You can see that I left the door open to the unit and wasted much AC.

Mr. environment. :sad2:

Thanks for the helpful hint. I'm guessing that the grocery store at OKW doesn't sell them. We are flying in and will not be able to get to a grocery store outside of WDW. I do have an order on Wegoshop, maybe I can add one of those to my order.

I would think this would be a common request.... go for it.

I do cook on vacations but probably not as much as I do at other non-DVC timeshares when I'm at Disney.

I like Rachael Ray's type of cooking where you use some convenience foods but it is homemade. Or even Semi-Homemade. I have several recipes that are old stand bys in our house like Lazy Man's Lagasna, Enchiladas, Chicken Tacos, Shepards Pie, grilled steak, marinated lime chicken, marinated fajita steak, salads with meat, etc... Most of these recipes take very little time to make. Sometimes I can even break up preparation into 2 steps where you do one part one day and assemble another day.

Now, I have to admit that I'm surprise how little people cook in their daily lives. So, I think a lot people think cooking is a chore but it really isn't if you practice. I love to cook and I find it very theraputic. It is nice to have down time in the unit and play games and enjoy an easy dinner. However, at Disney we do tend to dine out more than we do on our non-Disney vacations.

My dh loves my food over restaurant and usually my family can only handle restaurant food for so long.

So, I do what works best for you...

The most that we do is Breakfast which consist of Canned Cinnomon Rolls or Canned Biscuits. I can pop them in the oven while we are getting ready. We may bring some store bought microwavable meals that you put in the microwave. But we don't do anything that involves actually cooking. I rarely cook at home, so I don't cook on vacation! We do save a lot of money doing the little that we do in the kitchen.

What a great thread! O.K. I'm getting some more ideas like the canned cinnamon rolls. I have got to contact Marge...
