I have a long trip coming up, and can't decide wether or not I should buy another memory card for it. Right now I have two blank 2GB memory cards, as well as another 2GB that is about half full, so about 5GB total, enough for at least 2,500 pictures on my camera, probably more. That would mean I would have to take at least 200 pictures a day to even start to run out of space.

I can't decide whether that's enough or not.

Unless you plan on taking pictures for large portions of your day, I would say that you're good to go!

We average about 100 photos a day during our trips and that seems like a crazy number to me, so I can't imagine doubling that and having time to do anything else. It's just as important to enjoy those great moments as it is to capture them on film, IMO.

Have a great trip!:goodvibes

Worst comes to worst you can always take your memory card to any of the Photo places and they'll put it onto a DVD for you....I think the cost is under $15. Not a great alternative since a 2gig card could be $15-20....but just in case you do run out of space it's not the end of the world.

Also...remember that if you start getting close to full, or worried about....or even just bored waiting in line, go through your photos and start deleting all the blurred ones and others that you don't want....that'll help free up some space too.

I'd probably take that many! I participate through taking pictures. It'll be my honeymoon but I know I'll always have my camera in hand! That sounds like enough though!

Before your trip, copy over that half full card to your PC and backup media, and there is another gig for your use.

Memory cards are cheap now. There is no reason not to have plenty. A good 2GB card can be had for $20 these days.

And why take a card that is half full? Why not take those photos off so you have an empty card again?

I plan on taking around 8-10 GB with us for our 6 day trip in December, and I might well use all of it, especially if I shoot in RAW instead of JPG.

Memory cards aren't really that cheap. The cheapest I've seen at Target and Wal*Mart has been about $25. To me, that's not really cheap. Cheap is $10.

I agree with taking off whatever is on that "half".

You can also do what we're doing and take your laptop and your camera USB cord and put them on your computer! That's the only reason we're taking the lap-top =]

I have 11G so far for a 14 night trip. I plan on buying another 4G. I also do video with my digital camera.

We went last dec and took 1400 pics in 6 days at WDW. 8 mp & 6mp cameras. We have another trip coming up and I just got a new 9.1 MP camera with an 8 GB card with a 1 GB back-up just in case. Plus we will be bring our 8mp camera with two 4gb cards. You can never have too much.

Can I ask a silly question? How many pics can you fit on a 2GB?

Walmart and Target do not sell memory cards for cheap.. If you find a good sale online or even at Staples or a similar store, you can get 2gb for $10.

We also do video using our digital camera, but I bring a laptop to download pictures onto.

Depends on what you're taking a picture of. The more detail in the photo, the more memory it uses. A landscape of the ocean would take less memory than a photo of the inside of It's a Small World.

OP, I used 2 2GB and 1 1GB on our last trip. But only because my camera takes stills and videos and I used it to video DS in Jedi Training Academny and Jack Sparrow's Pirate tutorial. For stills, what you have should be plenty.

If you are taking a laptop, take a couple of blank dvd's & back your card up on that. then when your card is full you can erase it. I dump mine onto the laptop & copy onto a dvd. better safe tha sorry i say.

You'll be fine with what you have. I'm a photographer and I'm notorious for living things through my camera lens. My boyfriend had to call me out on this a few times on our trip last week because I wasn't really experiencing anything first hand. Still I took 500 pictures in 5 1/2 days....

You should be fine. I take 4 - 1 Gig cards on our week vacations to WDW. I've never run into a problem.

I'm the same! I rarely really participate in things! I just always feel like I'll miss something and never remember it or something! :confused3

Going by what you wrote, it sounds to me like you are storing your pics on your memory cards rather than downloading them to your computer and clearing off the cards. If that's so, it's a mistake.

You should always download your pics to your computer as soon as possible, and back them up to CD or DVD as well, to prevent accidental loss.

As far as how much memory to take to WDW, my recommendation if you aren't taking a laptop to download your pics is to have one memory card for each day. At the end of each day, take the card out of the camera and leave it in your hotel room safe. Don't worry about whether the cards are full or not - they have valuable pics on them, and should be protected.

Since your trip is long, you might only be able to take enough memory cards to change them out every other day. But definitely take as many cards as you can, and swap them out periodically - don't wait for them to get full.

The more pics you have on any particular card, the more you stand to lose if the card goes bad, gets lost, is accidentally erased, or is in the camera when something bad happens like a camera loss, damage, theft, or unplanned swim on POTC.

You could also upload them and then put them on a flash drive! We have an old Tablet laptop and it doesn't have a CD drive.

IMO, you can NEVER have too much memory. We are leaving for a 5 day trip to Mexico in two weeks and have about 4GB. For our Disney trip next year, I will probably purchase one more card to be on the safe side, just because who wants to scroll through pix while they are in the park deleting ones that are bad, blurry or you just don't like???

Like a PP said, you can always take your card to the photo desk and have them put onto a disc. I would highly recommend getting rid of the 1GB you have on one of your cards before going just to free up extra space.

I'm sure you will be fine with 5GB, the only reason we decided to get a little more for our 7 day WDW trip is because I may take some video with my point and shoot. It's waterproof up to 30 feet so I might take some video on that rafting ride in AK, going down the big drop on Splash Mountain etc and that'll eat up a ton of memory space.
