How many magicbands do you own?

Bands are not linked to the resort, just the account. I've used bands from several trips ago for everything, room and charging, on different stays. (I've decorated several of my bands, and use whichever fits my mood at the moment.) Both of your bands will work for everything your whole trip. On day 3 you will have to be checked in to the resort to charge on either band.

Thank you, but now I'm very confused. The band also acts as a room key. Does that mean that I could still use the band from the first two days on the rest of the trip to get into the room?
If, so I wonder why they told me to get two.

Think of it like this: your My Disney Experience account is a number. That number is linked to your magic band (through RFID signal). Your hotel rooms are linked to that number. As are your dining reservations, fast passes, etc.

So any magic band assigned to you has the same RFID signal that links to your account. The two bands you get will work the entire trip. They give you two because they do not keep track of who has one or doesn't. Built into cost of trip.

I have 4. 1-AP, 1- Jan trip, 2- split stay in NINE days!!!

Thanks. I assume, however, that the band will only work as a room during the days of the specific reservation (ie, band1 will stop working on day 3 for room entry and charging).

Both bands will open the door the whole time. I always check every band I bring on the door before I head out and so far they have all worked every time.

If I had kept them I'd have about 10 by now, with 3 more on the way in the fall.

I linked my AP to one before the AP ones came out and had a period of time where I was just throwing away the gray one I'd get at check in and then attach the reservation to the old band.

I actually threw ours from our last trip away. Our account says that we have 5 (1 for each of us). I wish I could delete them.

We have 3 sets so far (1 AP) with a 4th coming for our 2015 Spring Break trip.

We were some of the lucky ones that all MB's worked for everything - admission, FPPs, room door, charging, MM photos, etc. And we constantly rotated between all three with no issues. That said, I probably just jinxed us with the 4th set.

:crazy2::cool2:

We have two different sets that we were able to use interchangably. We were also lucky that we haven't had any issues with the room entry/charging/meals/park entry with any of our bands with anyone in our party.

I just posted on another thread ...

I currently have 5 sets of 4 and will be getting my 6th set of 4 in a few weeks for a trip in August.

The amount of money Disney is wasting is unbelievable in this situation, I cannot believe they have not figured out how to "re-use" the Magic Bands at this point?

You would think that is one of the first things they would have figured out when doing the intial tech development.

I completely agree! It would be SO easy to re-use them. They should have a way to see that the MDE account has magic bands already assigned to them. Or quite simply add a question during booking: "Do you already have Magicbands or will you require a new set?".... would even be better to offer an incentive for guests to re-use them, maybe a $10 discount per person per magic band that is re-used!?

Does anyone know how long the Magic Bands are supposed to last in theory? Sorry if that's a silly question but although I've used the bands I haven't read too much about their technology.

We got our bands in Nov 2013 and won't be back till September 2015 - wondering if our original bands will still work? Like previous posters, I'm thinking about the colour co-ordinations of outfits ;)

The CM at the front desk of CSR told me the chips in the band have a 2 year life expectancy.

Thanks! For all the space they'll take up in the case I'll probably take them with me, if they work great, if not no harm done.

I'm surprised Disney haven't installed something like a pp suggested where you can choose to have new bands or keep old ones. For larger families taking multiple trips a year that's a lot of bands! (I am now picturing poor unsuspecting family members opening cupboards and being engulfed by years' worth of Magic Bands :scared1:)

If you don't want more, don't customize them, and when presented with them at the desk simply do not take them.

I have two from staying on-site earlier in the year. When I return in November I will be off-site. If I'm understanding this correctly, I should be able to use MBs the same way I'd use the old-school tickets? I don't have to be staying on-site?

I personally have 15. When we checked into SSR last week, I was told once you have 16 linked to your MDE account they will stop sending them to you. First I heard that so I am not sure that is correct info.

I've got at least 10, maybe more like 15. I stopped counting after 7. ;)

The funny thing is I hardly ever use a MB. I much prefer to just use my AP (card) rather than wear the MB.

Pardon the slight correction, but its the battery (not the "chips") in the MB that has a 2 year life expectancy.

The battery is not necessary for most of the MB functions (such as opening the resort door, buying merchandise/food, FP's). The battery is only for the "long-range" function of the MB like automatically associating your ride photo with your MM account. Anything where you have to touch your MB to the sensor will work even with a dead battery.

They likely said the band has a two year life span.

And you are correct It's the battery which is a permanent lithium cell. Which I expect has a 5 year shelf life, which is typical. So basically Disney is thinking between build, ship, inventory, issue and it has a huge margin so even if some CM pulls a box out of the back of a closet and starts issuing them they should still be good.

So if I had 4 magic bands just for me and I was staying at a resort for 4 days I could use a different band for each day and they would be my room key and my ticket?
