Volunteer at your son's school. The teachers need the extra hands and your son will love showing you off to his new friends!!

I hope to... but I'm a single Mom and getting days off isn't easy. I have 3 days left for the whole year and I'm hoping they don't get eaten up because he or I are sick! :cold:

DisneyPhD - You'll be there Marathon weekend. I've heard many DVCs and other hotels are filling up. Want to come watch dh and I run? ;)

Aloha my fellow Michiganders!! I hope everyone had a good day today... tomorrow is the weekend... and I hope everyone have a great weekend! Have a good nite! Sweet dreams!

I am from Saline and will be going to Disney on December 10th and, I too, have my trip planned from start to finish. I see someone was from the New Boston area, which is where I grew up. :earsboy:

Is it that weekend. When we went in 2004 Jan it was that weekend too, and it wasn't too bad. It didn't "bother" our trip in any way what so ever. I am not too worried about getting a room since it is an off time. We are mostly still waiting to see if our friends want to come with us so I can reserve the rooms together. Will you be running?

Hi, we're from Lake Orion. DD starts kindergarden on Monday. Our trip is set for Dec 8-14 and we're doing MVMCP on the 11th. We're staying at WL again. We can't wait.

Hello,

My family will be going to Disney on the 10th -16th and will be going to MVMC on the 11th as well. Go Blue! :earsboy:

Hi all,

We are from a small farming town of Middleville, it is in between Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo.

We are heading down to wdw in Oct/Nov and going to do our first MNSSHP or I should say DD16 and her friend are.

Fantasia....I just had a real nice 3 days on the island with DD but we stayed at a wonderful B&B, the GH is a tad out of my range with a WDW trip coming up.

You gan tour the GH for a charge(porch and inside) and the grounds for free.

They do have discounts in the spring and fall, you should go even if you have to stay off island, it is a wonderful place. :flower:

I actually graduated from Wayland so I know right where Middleville is. I have cousins that graduated and still live in Middleville.

The Edgingtons........too funny, we live off of Paterson so we have address of Wayland and Phone of Middleville, a real small world :flower:

we are from Allendale. Quarter of a mile from GrandValley State University. Or 15min due West of Grand Rapids. We aren't going back to Disney until May 2007. Wish it were sooner :)

I'm in Spring Lake, but I grew up in Brighton and went to MTU. So, many of you seem close to home for me! I go to WDW in January!!!!

My husband graduated from MTU in 1996.

How many of you Michiganders fly and how many drive? Which do you think is better? We are still trying to decided for our next trip. We drove last time and with 2 young DS's we aren't sure if we want to do that again although it's much cheaper than flying.

Michellejed....My sister and cousin live off Patterson on Cobb Lake Rd. My sisters kids go to Wayland and my cousins kids go to Middleville. I grew up on 126th which is also off of Patterson, right near the Bib restaurant, if you know where that is. Small world.

I've driven once from Ludington. Then, the next two times (04 & 05), we flew. Once out of GR and once out of Muskegon. I think I'll stick with flying out of Muskegon; it's more expensive but hardly any lines at all compared to GR.

michellejed - I had a college roommate from middleville and worked off Patterson near teh airport. A little north, but not too far!

DisneyPhd - Yes, this will be dh adn my first ever marathon. We both used to run, but have not since hs. WISH board inspired me.

Not so Dumbo - My dh and I were 93. Love your naem BTW!

We always fly, as we do not have enough vacation to spend it driving. Allegiant air out of Lansing has $69 one way direct flights. We could not drive down there for that, but it's just the 2 of us. You cannot get tehm through any of the regular travel sites. You need to go to allegiantair.com

Just checking in tonight as I haven't been on the DIS for a couple of days...Thanks for the opinions about MI campgrounds. We've considered both Luddington and Hoffmaster before, and it's nice to know they are both nice, and not too far from us also.

Not so Dumbo, we have driven from Holland, MI for the past 3 trips. There are 4 of us (last time 5, as we had my MIL with us too), and we take 2 full days to drive each way. On the way down, we drive the longest leg first, to north GA, then have about an 8 hour drive the second day. On the way home, we stop in Tennessee, around Nashville. We've debated about flying, but decided that between the cost of plane tickets, airport parking, and rental car we come out a bit ahead. DH also prefers to have our own car in FL. We like to take longer trips too, so far up to 14 days, so we stay in a condo and bring some food too. And we enjoy the drive...for the most part. ;) If we decided to take a shorter trip, say a week or less, we would definitely consider flying, however.

I have never heard of Allegiant air. We usually fly out of metro on Spirit, but their prices are high right now. Of course, I just booked rt on nwa on FRIDAY at 1063.00 for 4 of us.

Since I was checking our fab MI thread and saw wtpclc's post about Lansing I thought I would price Allegiant as Lansing is the same distance as Metro from us.

(drum roll please........)

Allegiant was 623.60

OVER 400.00 CHEAPER.

I can't believe it!!!!!!!!!!

They also have a kids fly free special for travel to Orlando before Nov. 14.
I punched it in and found wee could have spent a long weekend at Disney for around 700.00
Huummm.......What counld I have done with the extra 400.00???????

Sick in MI

Oh Kim, I'm so sorry I was too late for you. I thought I was the last one on earth to find out about Allegiant. It seems like they've discussed it on the transportation board forever.

A friend and I flew Allegiant to Vegas last year. It was a decent airline. The price made it well worth the drive to Lansing from K-zoo. I would definately recommend them and Lansing airport is nice and small.

I clicked on the web site. We also almost always fly spirt, but will do NWA if the price is somehow better (not normal, but can happen.) We just booked Jan 4th to 11th for 79 each way. The price has gone up on spirit so I am glad we did. However I have been searching for my brother who wants to go in Feb and the prices on spirit are crazy high right now (like $300 and $400 each way, insane! Lansing isn't a bad option for them (since price REALLY does matter.) However they don't seem to have many flight secduled for then. Is this normal? Are they are book a few weeks ahead type of airline, not months? I am going to bookmark the site, it is good to know about. DH used to drive to Lansing a few times a weeks since he taught at MSU (but we lived in RO! :earseek: ) However he got a closer job at Schoolcraft college and is very happy about it (well not too happy, he went back to work today). Got to love back to school.

Thanks for the link, I will keep it in mind. How many times have you flown them and are they dependable? Any problems? Does it fly into MCO, it doesn't look like it. What do you do about town car service or rental cars?
