How Many From Michigan??

We needed a rental anyway. Their price for a rental car for the week was dirt cheap too. It is SFB, though. I've been told it's about an hour from WDW. I have not flow them yet, but accd'g to the Transporatation board people, they fly all MD-80 (?) jets. I would check their flights after the 1st. It seems like they go about 6 months out. The cheap flights are only offered a 3 or 4 days a week, but we added a day on our vacation to get one, added teh week's rental car and a day at POP and still were $150 less than NWA and will get a direct flight. Works for me. If I had a loyover, I'd like to be in a big airport, but for origin and final destination, small is just fine with me. I hear that SFB is comparable to Lansing for size.

Just checking in tonight as I haven't been on the DIS for a couple of days...Thanks for the opinions about MI campgrounds. We've considered both Luddington and Hoffmaster before, and it's nice to know they are both nice, and not too far from us also.

You'll love the Ludington State Park. It's the #2 park in Michigan. Lake MI on one side (if you dare to try the cool water temps) and Hamlin Lake within the park with very warm water temps. Campgrounds are wooded. Lots of woods to hike in and the northern part of the park borders the Nordhouse Dunes area along with the Pt Sauble Lighthouse. Not unusual to see a few deer, too, along the trails.
And, on the road to the park you have miles of Lake Michigan beach.

Oh Kim, I'm so sorry I was too late for you. I thought I was the last one on earth to find out about Allegiant. It seems like they've discussed it on the transportation board forever.

I must be the last person on earth to hear of them!! Lansing wouldn't be a bad drive for us due to I-69 just north of us. NWA for 4/12 - 4/23 right now is about $750(for 2 of us) and Spirit is $1800!!! Are they trying to price themselves out of business or what???

Allegiant doesn't post any flights for this time frame in April... do they not release their schedules that far in advance?

I'm taking him to Frankenmuth this weekend to spend at the pools.... just celebrate his last weekend before becoming a little man.... :cheer2:

NOw I'm quoting myself... go figure... :rotfl2: However, wanted to pass on that I HIGHLY recommend the Zehnders Splash Village Hotel... it was awesome. Although, I'm quite sure if someone hugged me right now... they would get wet... I am completely waterlogged (sp?) :rotfl:

It was clean, way more quiet at night than I anticipated and a TON of fun. I was too scared to let my DS (6) on the 4 - story water slides (you use intertubes...) that I "lied" and told him he had to be 7. Well, Mommy got busted when kids way smaller and younger than him were coming out of the tubes! So.... I gave in, let him climb the 4 flights of stairs lugging an intertube taller than he was... held my breath, heard him screaming like a little girl... and watched him shoot out of the tube giggling and screaming... "Again, Again".... :cloud9: I've gotta lighten up! :cool1:

 Hey there. We just moved from Ann Arbor to North Carolina. Now we are only 9 hours of driving time away from Disney.  We're going back around Thanksgiving.

Oh, and I grew up in Traverse City and my DH from Westland. -Bugfella

Kimmielee, she is actually in young 5's, Mon/Wed & every other Fri at Stadium. Trying to explain young 5's to others outside LO is difficult.

I am a Young 5s teacher in our district so I know exactly what you are talking about!

I just saw a billboard in teh last few months and did a little checking into them since then. So, I may have been second to last. I think the release 6 months out around the beginning of each month. I jut booked for January. I was looking at about $630 for teh 2 of us with NWA and that would have had one stop.

You will LOVE her teacher :teacher: ... my son was in young 5's with her last year. She goes above and beyond, consistently. I was very impressed and Noah loved her!! We probably rubbed elbows today... what a small world! :rotfl:

I understand about trying to explain Young 5's... it's kinda like trying to explain KinderPlus!! I basically pay the school district for the luxury of my DS spending 5 full days with his Kindergarten teacher vs. 2.5 days... it's cheaper than daycare... and the benefits are HUGE!! :cloud9:

May I ask how much you saved? I am still soooooo floored at Spirit's prices. Someone suggested watching them in mid-Sept. to drop... I'll have to wait until Mid-Oct to get Allegiant's prices since we aren't going until Easter... do I take the chance? :confused3

I got $69 each way N/S instead of $315 round trip with 1 stop. I did have to pay for transportation forom SFB, but they had a good deal fro $100 for a rental car for the week and we were going to need a car for a day or two anyway this trip. Plus, I was able to add another night. WIth all of that, I still am at $150 less than NWA.

WIsh I could help on whether or not to wait. I erally don't know, but I do not think 6 months out is too long to wait. However, I do not know what fuel prices will be when all is said and done with Katrina. I believe they reserve teh right to tack on surcharges anyway, though.

Nope, Kimmielee, I must be the last one to hear about Allegiantair. We have tickets for our May '06 vacation out of O'Hare. It's so much cheaper to fly out of Chicago than fly out of Grand Rapids. Even when we add in the Park-Sleep-Fly price!!! We got a great deal on our tickets -- but I can't think for the life of me what airline we're flying!

Hunnybee - Lansing and Flint are almost always cheaper than GRR and sometimes even Metro. I never look at O'Hare, as I'd rather dirve to FL than through CHicago. OK, not really, but I'd drive anywhere in MI first.

They have AWESOME prices to Orlando... must purchase by Sept. 1 and travel by Feb.... darn it... I need April rates!!! GRRRRRRRR

Another Michigander here!

We (dh and I) were born and raised in Monroe County, we still live here. :)

We also have a place in northern Michigan, or as Kid Rock says, "North of Detroit, south of heaven".

I am still waiting to run into Kid Rock and Uncle Kracker in the local bar by our cabin. Dh has been informed, he will need to go home alone. :rotfl: :earseek: :rotfl:

Carrie, I think ANYTHING is cheaper than flying out of GRR, isn't it? :) My husband is from Chicago and I met him at college out there, so the Chicago driving doesn't bother either of us. Because we're familiar with the area, we'd rather drive to O'hare or Midway than to Detroit.

But, I do know what you mean about the Chicago driving! My husband WAS NOT EVER going to move to Michigan, but he did. And, now that he's here, every time he goes back to IL, he wonders how he ever put up with the busy-ness!

Ahhhhhh... Kind of like I do not mind driving to Metro so much being from, what west-siders call, the Detroit area. However, when dh and I both worked across the street from GR, it was pretty convenient.

We just moved to Okemos a couple months ago. Before that we spent 7 years in New Hudson and before that 7 years in Redford.
My group consists of DH,DD2,DD15 and myself. We are going down this Sept. 26-Oct. 4. Can't wait to go to MNSSHP-went last year and had a blast   .
We are flying out of Flint using AirTran. Much cheaper than driving with these gas prices-UGGHH.
I'm glad to see so many snow birds on this thread.

Cindy :wave2:
