When I first considered buying, about 8 years ago, and ended up not buying, one of my reasons was the hassle of managing points.
Knowing my own nature, I knew that there was a reasonable chance I would just not get around to banking my points.
It would not have been due to ignorance, but due to a lack of organization.
Now, based on my vacation habits over the last 8 years, I am certain that I will most often use my points as quickly as they become available.
So having the organization skills to remember to get them banked was no longer an issue.
As far as ignorance goes, I was amazed at how ignorant I still was when I made an offer. I knew a lot because I had investigated this off and on over the last 8 years.
But I didn't know many of the fine details.
I learned many answers (from this board) before my book (the one with the real details) arrived.
I remember reading this board, the last time I was considering purchasing (I don't remember exactly how many years ago that was). and then didn't read the board again until a few months ago (when I was again considering a purchase).
again for years.
I suspect that I will likely quit reading it very soon (now that my purchase is complete and I have the book to look up the fine details).
OR maybe I will become one of those who continues to read, and answers questions for others. I don't know yet.
