How many DVC points to LIVE at WDW?

We have over 1300 points and plan on staying over a month between 3 resorts for one of the winter months in a 1 bedroom. This is about 15 years from now. We will see if our plans change but that is the goal. I cannot see staying in anything other than a 1 bedroom for that amount of time.

Our guide said that it was against the rules to stay in a hotel room longer than 4 weeks however someone just wrote on one of the forums that they were staying at OKW for 5 weeks.

DVC rooms are not hotel rooms and fall under different rules. There is a stay limit per room, I forget what my guide had told me years back, but I had brought up the question and she assured me that it's not as short as the hotel rooms.

I see the light..........

For staying at OKW in a 1 bedroom for Jan and Feb (8 weeks) I would need
1470 points and MS fees of $7,800 in 2012 dollars.

hmmmm.... Now what to do with the dogs????? Oh well it was a great thought!!!

This thread is the one good thing that came out of my dogs illness over the holidays. Thank you all for keeping me distracted through his tough last days. God must have given me the question, trying to save me some tears.

Keep it going!

Still a lot of points even for a studio.

While we're thinking of staying a couple of months a year, I'm not sure how I would like being away from all my toys at home for an extended length of time.

Oh, we can dare to dream. Plus, if you could do this, just get different toys for down there.

:lmao:
I'd be glad to sell all my stuffs I have if I can do retire at disney.
My concern is where the heck am I going to put all the new stuffs I can't not buy in a studio... :rotfl2:

assuming of course we actually have money leftover to buy anything.

This is something I could go for (if not for our dogs too). My SIL and BIL plan to do 2 months every winter once their kids are all off on their own. They'll likely stay at SSR, but I'd go for OKW as the villas are bigger and well laid out. But that's $3900/month and we'd just rent a 1BR condo off site for way less than that and just drive into WDW when we'd like.

I think parking an RV at Ft Wilderness wouldn't be a bad idea either. Points to rent the slip for that aren't bad at all (though now, I assume, you'd have to buy those points direct to use them for that). I wouldn't mind staying in an RV there from Nov through Feb (4 months). How many points is that? Those RV sites are tough to get at Xmas time though. But, I would so love to decorate my site.

I HATE moving around. But may consider it to winter in WDW. I may even go off site briefly to save on points, shop, do non-Disney stuff...

Ahhhhh.... To dream!!!

Therein lies the true problem for me. Where's my STUFF? WAY too many toys to try to haul everything down there. A couple of iPads and laptops can hold me for a week but I'd miss all the rest of my stuff after a few days.

I'd need a condo. A BIG condo. LOL

OBVIOUSLY, WE ARE DOG AND DISNEY LOVERS! Has anyone used the new doggy care at WDW? I have not, but thought about it...especially now that it has web cam. There are pet camping loops at ft wilderness and pet areas there, so could hang out there some, and kennel others. If not, then I may go into DVC dog care business for long term stay people!

Much wiser to rent a Ft W. space directly through Disney than to use points. Those point values, even if they are a good value today (which they aren't) are not set to a limit as they are with the DVCs - they can and will raise them with time.

Check out the camping board here. There are several RV'ers that will campout for 2 or more months at a time in FW. Like with DVC, they get around the hotel limit of stay bit too. They also man the phones on the 1st day of stay much like we do with our 11 month out reservations, but their lead time is longer and unless they're given inside information they're never quite sure the day the dates will open up in the system for booking.

Yeah...I just looked on WDW resie site to see what an RV site would cost for next Xmas. I put in 12/21-12/31 and it's all booked up already. And I noticed that January of 2014 is not open for booking yet, so they must open each month somewhere near the beginning of the month. I guess I would have needed to book one of those sites as soon as they opened up. No matter...we don't have an RV...though I wonder how much it would be to rent one and drive it down there from MD. Maybe someday! DH works from home, so we could def stay there for extended periods of time. Just gotta work around the kids' school/sports schedules....and then there's those dang dogs!

I would have to rent a storage unit I'm sure... purple box won't be enough after a couple months at Disney... :lmao:

We have 2 Owners Lockers now. We think that the Studio will work out ok, but clearly it helps to use the OL.
