I was shocked to read in my local paper this morning that according to a study from the National Endowment for the Arts that found that less than 57 percent of people read at least one book a year in their leisure time--not for work or school. The number of adults who didn't read ANY books increased almost 24 percent.
I find it amazing that that many people don't read any books per year. I read at least one book (usually 3) per week. I'm sort of like a junkie--if I don't have at least 3 books on my nightstand to choose from, I feel really nervous. Reading is one of my greatest pleasures. And everyone in my extended family is the same way so I think that's why I'm so surprised. Everyone I know reads the same way I do...I didn't realize there were so many people that don't. It would sure explain why my house is messier than some of my friends!
So, I'm curious...how many books do you read a year?
