Can anyone tellme how close to my travel dates can i be able to rent points and have a reasonable expectation of finding availability. We would like to go 9/29-10/06, 2007. Unfortuneately work requirements don't allow me the flexibility to commit to a set time until about 2-3 months prior.(beleive it or not,i'm self employed, but my boss is a real:headache: .....)
We've camped at FW 3x's, been to the POR once, and would like to try a DVC 1 bdr with the possibility of purchasing a dvc contract in 2008.

if you can't typically make a reservation until 2-3 months out, DVC may not be a good idea for you...

there may be availability at the largest resorts, SSR or OKW (with the start of food and wine on sept 28, the epcot resorts will almost certainly be full) but on such short notice, it will probably be a crap shoot. (on the bright side, if there is availability, you may be able to rent "distressed" points at a cheaper rate...)

further complicating matters - as webmasterdoc wrote:
If you can be flexible with your dates, resort and villa-type you may find availability within 60 days. One complicating factor though is that 60 days ahead, any DVC villas not reserved using points are made available to CRO for cash reservations to the public - so you are also competing with cash reservations for any remaining inventory.

You should be able to rent points within your time frame, but of course must be at the mercy of the DVC reservations system...if they're full when you want to go, they're full. Most point renters don't want to mess with a waiting list for a point renter.

Good luck.

Because of the time that you want to rent points (Food & Wine Festival) you will more than likely have trouble getting a room. Especially at any of the EPCOT resorts. You might find a room at SSR or OKW. That is a favorite time for DVC'ers to go to WDW. Low points and everyone enjoys the festival. That said, you can only try and hope for the best. I agree with the last poster, most renters don't want to worry with the wait list, because if it doesn't come through then the points they have used for any confirmed nights would go into holding if it was within the 30 day period.

It is a wonderful time to be at WDW so I wish you luck!
