My wife and I are taking our first shot at renting points. We started the process last Thursday. My concern is that the person renting the points to us thought he might not be able to get a paper confirmation to us by Sept 15. Three weeks seems like plenty of time to me, is this normal, or am I being paranoid?

MS will suggest that the confirmation should arive in 7-10 days. WHile it usually arrives within 7 days in my experience, there are also times when it does not arrive and another call is required ... and thus another 7-10 wait.

I suspect they are just preparing you for the worst and hope you'll be pleasantly surprised when it comes well in advance.

You won't really need the confirmation to check in - as they will just ask to see a photo ID for the lead name on the reservation - but it is nice to have that piece of paper in your hands. You should be able to call the resort directly a few days ahead to confirm everything too.

Enjoy your trip! :)

It can take up to 10 days for the member to get the confirmation letter from MS, although it usually comes sooner. (Sometimes, it takes even longer. I think the member just doesn't want to make promises he/she isn't 100% sure can be honored.

Why not ask him/her to fax (or email if he/she has a scanner) the confirmation to you when it arrives? That would at least save the mailing time between you and him/her.

Otherwise, unless your trip is very soon, ask if you can wait to send money until after you get the paper confirmation.

If your trip starts 9/15, it is entirely reasonable for the member to ask you to pay upfront before even making the ressie. Reservations made within 30 days of arrival are more risky for the member than those with a longer lead time.

Best wishes -

3 weeks sounds about right to me. It sometimes takes us 10 days to get a confirmation. And like Doc says, occasionally I've had to request it again.

Have a good time on your trip.

I made reservations on August 21st and got my paper confirmation on August 29th.

I made reservations on August 17th and received my paper confirmation yesterday, August 30th. There are times when that paper confirmation takes a bit longer than expected--and I live only 70 miles away from WDW.

I was thinking, if the person you are renting from has online access to DVC, they would at least be able to provide proof that a reservation has been made by providing the info from the 'view vacations details' section of their 'My DVC' page. While it wouldn't have all the renter's info on it, it would have all the other information as to dates/resort etc. While it's not the paper confirmation, perhaps it can provide some reassurance.
