How long to add on points at sold out resort?

We just did an 80 point add-on at our home resort, BWV. I called our guide yesterday afternoon and I have the points today!!! Our use year is April. I got '07 points, too! WooHoo!!!

Hi, In December we requested an 110 point add-on at VWL with a Feb use year. They were available immediately and we've used them to book our vacation there next Thanksgiving!

Quick question I am sure has been asked before. WHy would you want to add on from the developer when you can buy resale for cheaper? Is it because it posts so much faster (when the waitlist is not too long)? Or do you get incentives? Just trying to understand.

smaller contracts are more expensive per point, and resales add closing costs of at least $320. (one example, AKV for 50 pts = $104 per point resale + $300ish for closing costs = $110 per point.) add-ons direct from disney have $0 closing costs, so if you want to add-on a small number of points (100 or less), it is often cheaper to go direct. you also can get exactly the number of pts you want. (and it's probably easier to finance if you get 50 or more points, although i don't recommend financing DVC.)

you don't get incentives for small add-ons, but you often get the prior use year's points (and don't have to worry about a "stripped" contract as with resale.)

(it may also be easier to match use year month by going direct, which makes point expiration easier to track and allows you to pool points at the 7 month window since everything is under one master contract/one member number.)

The points were immediately available and will be in my account today!



That's my 14th add-on (I just had to get beyond 13).
