My dad just joined in January...we're going "home" for our first time in 6 days!!!! :cool1: :cool1:

It took me 17 yrs to get back to WDW (24 yrs for my DH). We have 4 grandchildren (so far) and want to make sure we don't make that mistake again, if for no other reason than the grands. DVC seems like the right move for us, and I don't think I want to wait until we return next year (to buy). Unfortunately, we don't have time to go back right now to take the tour, so I'm asking for advice: How do I begin to decide which resort and how many points to start? I think I want to buy a resale, so how do I know which re-seller to use? I know we'd like a home resort with larger rooms/capacity (2 & 3 BR units avail), and prefer luxury to rustic surroundings.

My largest concern with DVC is park transportation. My DH needed a scooter for part of our stay - is transportation more difficult from the DVC resorts? Also, is it true that they will be converting the North Wing of the CR to DVC, and if so does anyone have any idea re: a timeline?

I'd appreciate any feedback from experienced DISers!

We became Members Aug of '00 :cool1: We've been so happy with that decision we made in 2000 while staying at Vero Beach.

No. It's the same as for the other WDW resorts. Most of the buses are wheelchair/ECV accessible. There is some information in the disABILITIES FAQs thread about wheelchairs/ECVs on the buses.

Yes, but don't you think the bus transportation takes longer/is more difficult than other means (the monorail, boats, and/or walking)? It certainly does with the ECV, IMO. Are the DVC resorts more centrally located or better serviced? We just returned from a trip staying in the CR - once we had to rent the scooter, we gave up on bus transportation as it just seemed to take so long (we averaged 1 hr to get to MGM or AK before the scooter!) - with 2 (rambunctious) 3 yr olds in tow, it seemed overwhelming to attempt once we factored in the disability. This issue is the only negative I see to a DVC purchase (for us).

We have stayed at all the DVC resorts at one time or another except for Hilton Head. We usually have our DD with us and, since she can't walk at all, we are dependent on transportation that can handle a wheelchair.

There are DVC resorts at Beach Club and at Boardwalk that allow you to roll with an ECV or wheelchair the same as other guests walk to Epcot and MGM. It's also easy to take the boats from the Epcot area resorts to both of those parks. A wheelchair or ECV can be rolled right on. When we stayed at those 2 DVC resorts, we walked/rolled to those parks rather than taking the boat.

The boats from WL are usually accessible to wheelchairs and ECVs (occasionally the water levels make the boats float too high or too low in relation to the docks for wheelchairs/ECVs to roll right on.) On the stay where we were at WL and later stayed at OKW, it took nearly the same amount of time to get from WL to MK on the boat (with no ramp or anything for DD's wheelchair) as it did to take the bus from OKW to MK. For the boat, many of them made stops both at WL and at Fort Wilderness, which took more time.

Each resort (DVC or not) has one park that is closer and/or more convenient. For the monorail resorts, MK is very easy to get to, but OKW is closer to Epcot than those resorts are. So, I guess, the best advice is to choose the resort (or DVC) that is closest to the park you plan to go to most. If you have an ECV or wheelchair and want to be close to MK, then one of the monorail resorts is the best choice.

Our last trip was to SSR, where we rolled DD to Downtown Disney the same as we would have walked there without her. If someone is looking for a WDW resort within walking distance to Downtown Disney, then SSR is the only choice.

We joined in Jan 2002. DVC continues to be the best purchase we have ever made. And they keep us coming back for more, now with AKV, we are looking to even more variety in our vacations. It gets harder to choose where to stay for every trip!

We joined in 2001. We looked into buying in 2000, felt we couldnt do it so bypassed. Kick myself thinking how much pts went up in that time. We own at VWL with 2 addons since 01.

Forgot to put how long we have owned......
All our points are at OKW. We bought our first points in April of 1993.
