We are thinking of driving from WDW and want to stop somewhere to take the kids to the beach. Then I got to looking. Going to Daytona or St Augustine wouldn't really make our drive home any shorter. Why not Savannah? Then, hey- why not HHI???

We live in Cincinnati area and this would slice up the day and not cost us anything else in points. Thoughts????

It should take less than 5 hours if you avoid Orlando and Jacksonville traffic. Best route is I-95 north to Highway 278 (South Carolina Exit 8)

Approximate mileage:

I-4 64-66
I-95 (FL) 123
I-95 (GA) 113
I-95 (SC) 8
Hwy 278 20 (have not measured this)

Total: 328-330

Thanks! Mapquest said closer to 6 hours and that was too long out of the way.

It's 5 maybe 5 1/2 hours. However, once you take the exit off of 95, it's about 30 more minutes to HHI. I remember the first time we went there, it felt like that last bit took forever!!

I drove it a year ago and its 5 hours. It was a very doable and easy drive. It usually does take just 30 minutes off I-95 to get to HHI, but sometimes in the summer it will take longer.

The DVC resort at HHI is really nice. The beach is a short bike ride, shuttle, or drive away. Just check expected temps (water temps) for when you are travelling. The lower the water temps, the faster the overall drive from WDW (that is, lower demand for the entire island resort).
