How long does MJ stay in the system

My 20yr old ds has smoked marijuana on and off, mostly on for a few yrs...We found a couple of pipes a few yrs ago. He got in trouble and swore it off, but we suspected over the the last few yrs that he smoked pot on a regular basis. He has not lived with us for 2 yrs so we havent had much say so in his life. However, he came to us last week and said he was tired of living this way, had been a regular MJ user and decided to quit. He said he realized that he couldnt smoke pot if he intended to get a good job as most companies drug test as a condition of employment. He is worried that the MJ active chemical is in his fat cells and that it will show up in drug testing. He said the last time he smoked was 2 weeks ago. I read that he should be fine to drug test in 30 days but he is concerned that it will take longer for him as he was a reg. user over a long period of time.
We are thrilled that he has finally come to this conclusion and are holding our breath that he is sincere. We have tried everything to get him in school, trade school or to get a job and start from the bottom up.
Any advise out there?

DD worked at a health food store where people could purchase items that would supposedly clear your specimen for a drug test. I don't know if they work, but they sold a lot of them at about $30 each.

Usually it is 28 days. You can purchase fairly reliable drug tests on the internet that will detect traces of THC. That may be the way to go before he applies for a job. I would not trust over the counter "supplements" that promise to clear your system of THC. Many times these things cause the urine to be dilute and if it is too dilute the lab will not accept it until it concentrates. Also, the labs are often able to get around these kinds of "disguises". If you google it, a lot of companies will come up that will send you test kits. If you are going to allow him back home, a drug free life style is a good contract to enter in to and it will assure you that he is serious about his intentions.

If you son smoked every day it will probably take 45- 90 days. If you want to be sure of the results before he applies for a job you can always get a home test kit,which should be pretty accurate. Just be aware that most people do have traces of THC in their system....inserts in a home testing kit should tell you acceptable(sp?) levels.

I've had friends try those special herbel remedies for flushing out the system and they seem to work for some but not others,so I wouldn't trust that rout.

Have your son drink lots of water. This will help flush his system out. Also, as a previous poster suggested, you can find reliable home drug testing kits. I would definitely get a couple of those.

Good point. A lot of companies are going to hair samples. Perhaps he needs to shave his head and wait until it grows a bit more and shave again.

90 days is a good time limit for his using. Make sure he drinks plenty of water before a drug test. Don't waste your money on powers etc. claiming they can mask a positive result. And, most importantly, I think, of he was that much of a user, maybe some counseling/treatment would do him good. Good luck to him and the family.

Our local Eckerd Drugs sells the home testing kit. I noticed it while waiting to p/u a script. It can stay in your system for up to 90 days and your hair can be tested also.

Depends on how long your hair is and how fast it grows, how often you get it cut, etc. Hair grows at about 1 inch/month, so if he stops now and shaves his head he should be okay on a hair test.

They called him abcvk the next day and said we dont know what your taking but dont come back here no more

Water will not clean MJ out your system. THough it is good for you so tell him to drink lots. Urine test is debatable 30-90 days. Hair tests, at least 90 days...and he can shave his head till the cows come home folks but he'll have lots of other hair they can sample.

I am very happy to hear he is trying to go down the right path but if he lies he'll get caught. Better to be honest.

P.S. Anything you take to try to hide the drugs will be detected. They test for that too now.

Just wanted to comment on the hair sample issue. If it can be detected in hair samples for 10 years, shaving the head (or any other body part), even repeatedly would NOT make any difference.

Think about this for a second. First of all, most people do not even have the same hair on their head for 10 years, due to cutting and just normal hair shedding. So, if it can be detected in hair for ten years, that means that it is being excreted from your system into your hair as it grows. From the inside, not the hair that is already exposed. That means there is nothing you can do to prevent your future hair from having traces of it until ten years has passed from the last time you smoked pot.

Just saying this because he may not want to do something drastic that will not make any difference anyways.

Now, I am going with this ten years part as factual...I have no idea if that is true. If so, it has nothing to do with geting rid of the hair on his head right now.

No matter what, good luck to him! Sounds like he is turning a new leaf, thinking more about his future and that is awesome.
