If everything goes smoothly, how long does it take from the time you get off the plane, pick up your bags, get your rental car, and drive to your resort?

I want to make reservations for a restaurant but I'm not sure when to make it for. Our plane lands at 2:20pm on a Saturday in September.

Thanks for your help.

where are you staying ?
I'd think that if the flight is ontime you should be at your resort around 4 p.m.
Saturdays are busy travel days so there could be a line to check-in your hotel. Allow 1/2 hr travel time if you will be headed to a theme park.
I probably would make a dinner reservation no earlier than 6 p.m in the event that you are late. Don't start your trip stressing out about missing your first reservation.

You're on vacation. Don't rush. Don't stress. Relax. I'd go for a 7PM reservation somewhere easy to get to from where you are staying.

Personally, I hate when people tell me not to rush, that I'm on vacation. I know that. I like to get there and get settled in quickly so I can relax once I'm there.

To answer your question, a lot depends on:
  • What rental company you're using and if you're using their "express" service (like National Emerald Aisle)
  • Which hotel you're staying at
  • Which restaurant you want to eat at
  • Is the restaurant in a theme park, and if so, do you have to buy your admission, upgrade annual pass vouchers, trade in Give A Day vouchers, etc? (i.e., anything that will take some time at the Guest Services window at the park)

I'd make a reservation for no earlier than 5:30-6:00, depending on where the restaurant is. This will give you plenty of time to get out of the airport, get to Disney, check in, go to your room, change or freshen up if you need to and get to your reservation.

'If' your flight arrives ontime, at 2:20, you should be at baggage claim by 2:35ish, bags in hand by 2:50ish, down to rental car counter by 3:00. Out to car and on the road by 3:15...at the resort by 3:45...depending on which resort you are at. I would always recommend giving yourself 90 mins from gate to resort.

In your case, dining reservations would depend on where you are staying and where you want to eat. You will have a rental car, so waiting for buses isn't going to be an issue. Once you get to your resort, plan on about 30 mins to get checked in and to your room. Whether or not you unpack at this time is up to you and your available time. I hate rushing around when I first get to my resort, so I would be very hesitant to book an ADR anytime before 6:30ish.

Not sure which rental car I'm using yet but I do want one in terminal. We are not staying on Disney property but we are very close to everything. Like a ten minute drive. I want to make reservations at Ohana for dinner and fireworks which starts at 9pm.

Thanks.

It doesn't take us a lot of time from plane to resort. We walk to baggage claim. My daughter(s) wait(s) for the bags on the carousel and I go rent the car from the Alamo kiosk or walk over to the parking lot and rent it via the Budget Fastbreak kiosk. By the time I am headed back to the baggage carousel the bags are there and we walk to the car. We take the toll road south of the airport straight to WDW.

Typically, from the time the plane lands to the time we're at the resort checking in it's about 60 to 70 minutes.

I'm usually walking up to the Disney resort of my choice check in desk 1 hour after getting off the plane.
