that's a tuff one to answer.

after Cassandra was born we had to wait for her birth certificate, this took about 2 months.

after that we had to find someone who would sign for Cassandra passport and since they took the teachers out of the field of valid signatures and our family dr was on mat leave herself it wasn't going to be easy. We eventually had to wait until she was almost 4 months old when our dr went back to work 1 day a week to get her to sign the forms.

Then within the next 3 months we had her BC, applied for and received her passport. we were travelling to the US when she was 7 months old and we didn't have to put a rush on the passport so i'd say it took less then 6 weeks to get it back.

That DOES give me hope! Thank you! I mailed mine early January as well.
Keeping my fingers crossed. I'm not leaving until September but there are things I'd like to do in the US this summer and they have my BC!

Hope continues! My credit card was charged by Passport Canada on March 5th (sent in Passport applications on January 4th). With reviewing previous postings, I expect that my passports should arrive by March 21st at the latest (trip is April 5th). Again, I don't need the passports, but, was more worried @ the birth certificates.

Found out from the airlines (NWA) that kids under 18 don't need ID when flying in domestic USA. The US ground border indicates that onus is on the Canadian crossing to "prove" citizenship, so, for the kids, I have enough ID (including photocopy of birth certificates) to cross the border. I prefer having the passports.

I'm definitely feeling the pain for those folks who NEED to have the passports for International Airflights. Keep hoping and praying and calling. We all need a little Mickey Mouse in this day and age to keep us going!

I mailed in 5 applications on December 16th. All 5 of them were returned to me with some type of mistake. (I've warned people not to rely on me for help with their passports. )

We're driving across and flying domestic so we don't really need the passports however, all my documents were with the applications so I was starting to fret.

Was able to resubmit the boys applications (they were refused because they said the long form birth certificate was needed. I only had the cards.) I reapplied in person 2 weeks ago and have already received their passports back.

My husbands was returned because his signature was too big. PLus... I'd forgot to tick off the citizenship question. His cousins was returned because his signature touched the line and I'd forgot to tick off that questions again.

Mine was lost somewhere in Passport land. My local MPP's office got involved and confirmed Passport Canada could not locate my paperwork. Anyways.... yesterday, my passport application was returned to me. Multiple errors on that one. I had a shine on my face so my photos were not acceptable. My birth certificate is no good because it's dated before Jan 1994. (I'd missed that tidbit of info) and... I'd forgot to tick off that citizenship question.

Anways... this past monday I ordered a new birth certificate and I'm supposed to receive it within 6 days.

Once we have everything in order again, we will be heading out to the one passport office open on a saturday.

Let's hope I get everything back in time for the trip (April 18). If not, at least I'll have everyones ID's back.

DW called Passport Canada today to inquire about our couriered passport applications(arrived there Jan 19th). According to the person on the other end of the phone they are working on Jan 12th and have been for 4 days! Just thought I'd update those that are curious.

I filed for DS at the Kitchener office on Jan 29. It arrived today. When I submitted his I was told specifically it would be 6 weeks.

DH, DD and I handed ours in at a passport office in Richmond, BC on Feb 12 and were actually told that they should be mailed out by March 12, but we recieved them this past week (Wednesday for DH and DD, yesterday for mine). Phew! And with a month to spare....!

My sister applied for my nephew's passport at a Canada Post Location (no offices here on PEI) on Feb. 2nd. She called today and they hadn't even begun to process it. The lady from Passport Canada told her that she'd e-mail the people that process them to see if it might possibly be done for next week-I'm trying to take him to The World leaving next Saturday. I have a feeling I should be cancelling.

I apparently needed long form birth certificate because we were married after the birth of our son. They suggested long form for Nicolas too although we were married prior to his birth. Both now have long form certificates.

Pictures were taken at WalMart. I just redid them yesterday at Sears and she made sure there was no shine.

As for the birth certificate (mine). I hadn't heard that either but if you look at the application, it clearly states if you were born in Quebec (forgot to mention that's where I was born), you need a birth certificate issued after 1994. If it's an Ontario birth certificate, the year doesn't matter. I'm not quite sure why things are so different in Quebec. *sigh*

They send you a pre-printed letter with all the reasons indicating why your application was rejected and they check off the one that corresponds to yours. Mine stated that a long form birth certificate was required. I then went online at the office of the registrar and ordered both of them. I was amazed because I ordered them on the monday and they were delivered on wednesday of the same week. They cost me $35.00 each.

I think the 1994 requirement is for Quebec only. I'm not sure about Alberta. I hope not (for your sake). My birth certificate was issued in 1990. I keep trying to figure out what the difference is and the only thing that comes to mind is that they used to laminate them in Quebec. They don't anymore but when I got mine, it was laminated. I know they refuse them if you laminate them yourself so maybe now they don't accept them like that at all.

DH & I went to Halifax to apply in person at the passport canada office. We felt that the 4 hr drive would be worth it to be able to get our passport in time. This Disney trip was a last minute decision since we are just really starting out and didn't think we could afford another disney trip so soon after our honeymoon one (May 2005). Anyways, the office said March 16 it would be ready and then mailed out and at the latest we should have it in our hand by March 23rd. This date still gives us room since we do not leave until April 4th.

At passport canada they were saying if you mailed your application it would take 3 months I am glad we went in person and we only had to wait under 2hrs in line

My dds arrived on March 5 and we applied for it at a service Canada centre on December 20 - they said that it should arrive on Feb 9 - so only a month late.

Just needed a passport for DS11, as DH and I have them already.

Applied on 16 Jan at Service Canada location. Was told I'd have the passport by the end of February.

Received today (14 Mar).

We leave the last week of April, so I wasn't worried (yet)!
