How Long Did It Take To Get Your Passport? Poll

I was surprised how quickly ours arrived! We applied for ours on Jan 31 through the Winnipeg office, and received our families all during the week of Feb 19 thru 23rd.

It was the last step in finalizing our Disney trip!

We went Sat Feb 17 at the Brampton, On. passport offiice. arrived by mail Wed Feb 28, Passport issued date Feb 26.

Me and DW applied on Jan 25/07 and just received them
today Mar 1/07. They told us at the office in Halifax that they would
arrive at the end of Feb. So they did a great job in Halifax.

My neice is applying for passports at the Winnipeg office. Can anyone tell me how the lines etc. are at that office. She has 3 little children she will have to take with her, so am hoping for some answers so that she can plan accordingly.

Thanks

Hey, need a little help from all you guys who had a little luck with passports or knows a little more about the struggle it has been to get them lately. I sent away for mine around Jan 24 and of coarse not knowing the huge delays i figured it would be plenty of time to get it back for my trip to calfornia in late April.

Since I live in Labrador I had no way in visiting a passport office so my only option was to send it out by mail.

I leave April 26th, does anyone out there think there's a possable chance of getten it back in time? I hope so cause my plane tickets are already bought.. :confused3

Hi There,

Sending some moral support your way! Been there, done that!! Did you send them in via traceable mail? (ie. express post?) If so, and if you still have your tracing number, you'll be in luck. Call passport Canada (1-800-567-6868. Keep redialing until you get through to a voice instead of a busy signal. Then do not listen to the prompts! Just stay on the line and, like another poster said, they will assume you have a rotary phone (most times) and put you into the queue automatically) Once through (after about 1/2 hr or so) you should be able to get an agent to trace and pull your applications and have them expedited due to your travel dates. This still takes about 10 business days for the trace.

Honestly, it is just not worth your time to wait and wonder if they'll get to them in time under the circumstances.

I sent mine in by mail on Jan. 4th and had to go into our office this past Tuesday (Feb. 27) because I had not received them back yet. It was close. They were opening the ones they received on Jan 8th at the time, and I"m sure mine would have been opened in the next day or two and could have possibly been done on time, but it got to the point that I decided that the extra cost and hassle just wasn't worth it when I was looking at spending another $2000 US + for airfare out of a US city if we had to drive across instead of fly. (not to mention the hassle and missed vacation time of all of that!)

And, I am very happy to report that it went VERY Smoothly at the passport office here in Calgary. But I'm told that is not usually the case.

I happened by the south passport office on Tuesday while re-doing our passport photos and noticed that the lineup was only about 8 people. I could hardly believe it! I quickly finished up with the photos, ran around to get them signed and guarantored and went back to the PP office at about 2:00pm. Only had to wait outside for 5 min. then about another hour & 15 min. once inside! It was almost PAINLESS!! The clerk said that they hadn't seen it like that since 4 months ago and thought it must have something to do with the weather. (it was fairly cold, and lightly snowing) So we are all set, $135 later ($30 X 3 express fee, plus $45 for new photos) and I pick them up on Monday !! We leave Wednesday morning so it was really getting dicey.

And now I'm not aging at a rate of twice normal! :rotfl:

Good luck,
Liz

to the one asking about wpg location:

I got there at 7am on the dot (an hour before opening), and I was #42. I was out by 9am though anyway.

Hope this helps!

I guess I have everything goen against me, I didn't get a tracking number, just stuck a stamp on the envelope and sent it on its way... can they still track or find your passport without a number i wonder/?

Jessie, I think there is still a lot of hope that you will receive your passport in time. Just my opinion, since you do not leave until April 26th. They should be opening Jan.24th applicaitons in a couple of weeks.

We did ours online and went to Halifax office on February 6. They indicated then that the mail-out (printed on the receipt) would be February 27. Canada Post delivered them today (March 2).

Now we can tell the kids as that was the last item to check off.

Only 68 days to go!

:rolleyes1 Funny you should ask!!! I went this morning to the downtown passport office in Ottawa, arriving in line at 6:15am. I had a lovely conversation with the lady next to me for an hour (Hello Rose!) Doors opened at 7:30am whereby I was given ticket #A0020 & made my way into the waiting room. I was served at 7:45, finishing at 8:10 (three passports to process!), walked by approx 200 people now standing in line  (thinking, you poor buggers!) & exited the building at 8:20, arriving home again before 9:00am!

The passport lady assured me that my passports would arrive via registered mail prior to March 7 even though the news on the local radio station this morning said that Passport Canada is issuing an advisory that no passport applications not already there, will be processed in time for Ottawa's March Break! Either way, doesn't much matter to me....I need it for September!! :laundy:

Good luck to all my fellow Dis'ers...I truly hope you all get your passports in time & that you have awesome trips!!

All three passports arrived yesterday by registered mail! Very nice!

Took them to the local MPP office. She said the wait will be about two months. That's okay though as we are not going the the states until Nov. She said that if for some reason we need to go the states we could come and get an noterized letter from their office saying our BC are away for Passports. She did not gurantee that this would work though. Oh Well!

hey thanks, I hope your right, thing is once they open it how many more days for processing and sending it back... another 20?? if i do recieve my passport it'll be cutten pretty close to my departure date, i'll be bitting my nails for sure come the first week in april.

worst thing about all this is being so isolted where I live. I have no back up plan if it don't come and the closes passport office is montreal, 2 days drive away. Its a very hopless situation to be in :scared:

Tryen to be Optimistic in all this :sad2:

I guess I have everything goen against me, I didn't get a tracking number, just stuck a stamp on the envelope and sent it on its way... can they still track or find your passport without a number i wonder/?

Yes, they can trace it without a tracking #. They will ask for your full name and date of birth. Also tell them when and how it was sent in.:)

Applied for all 5 in the office in Hull on January 11/07, they all arrived within 14 business days...that was the last item we needed before we leave.

Only 67 days to go!!!:woohoo:

I went on Feb 13th (in office). They told me I would receive by march 6th. Well, got it today (march 6th). Wow, they are good! lol

So 20 days only. (I even put that I was only travelling in June).

I sent ours out on Jan. 16 through the MP's courier. We recieved them yesterday March 6 via Canada Post priority, so it was 49 days including weekends. I had phoned before I went to the post office and they said it was processed on Sunday, and sent on Monday, so I guess they are working on the weekends.:hourglass
