It doesn't seem too fair....

Ontario--pop. 12,686,952....13 passport offices---1 per every 975,919 people
Quebec--pop. 7,651,531......7 passport offices--1 per every 1,093,075 people
B.C------pop 4,310,452.......4 passport offices--1 per every 1,077,613 people
Alberta---pop 3,375,763......2 passport offices--1 per every 1,687,881 people

Ontario has it so much better!!
Us Albertans don't stand a chance!:sad2:

Actually your math is a teeny bit off...

Ontario--pop. 12,686,952..13 offices = 1 office per 975,919
Quebec --pop. 7,651,531.. 7 offices= 1 office per 1,093,075
B.C.--pop. 4,310,452 ..4 offices=1 office per 1,077,614
Alberta --pop. 3,375,763 ...3 offices(according to the link that Debbie provided) = 1 office per 1,125,254

Alberta is still a little behind but the gov't would have some explaining to do if they gave Ontarians 1 office per 97,591.
(I figured you just dropped a number with the frustration of the wait times)

What do you mean by 'dropped a number"?Oh, I see, yes I did, but I didn't mean too, innocent mistake!!
I was right on the B.C math.
I got the population of Ontario off of here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ontario
I don't know where you got your population of Ontario from?
Wait, now I see you changed your population?? You had it at over 13 a few minutes ago. I am confused now all right!!

No Worries ,it was meant as a light hearted correction. We were actually pretty lucky we got our passports back in just a few weeks.I have heard horror stories of people getting in line at midnight just to get in the office then taking forever to get the passports back.I really think it's dependent on the office though not necessarily the province. Some people here in Ontario are still waiting since late December and early January, yet others like us (at the Whitby office )get 2 to 3 week turnaround.
I hope it settles down soon so everyone gets a chance to get out of this cold weather and into some fun in the sun.

Actually, it's even more uneven, when we consider that all the passports offices are in southern Ontario.(except for Thunder bay). If we live outside the GTA area, the passport offices are out of our reach. there is nothing to meet the needs of those of us in the north (of Barrie, that is:rotfl: )

Ya, it seems unfair to all. My friends live up north and their closest office is like 5 hours away.
My mom is also 3 hours away from Calgary, her closest office.

Which means those people have to mail it in, and makes it so much longer of a wait.

We aren't travelling until August and I am worried we won't have it by then!

Anybody talk to Passport Canada today(Feb.27) and know what day they are processing? Just curious.:confused3

:scared:

I am leaving in 53 days so after reading how scared the dis'er is that is going in august ( yikes!) I am now terrified! March 20th will be our 40th day so I will really start to panic after that I guess.

fingers crossed

D.M. I am also leaving in 53 days and our 40th day will be March21st.
We should keep eachother updated so we can celebrate or cry together.
Sincerely,
Dazer ( the dodo.... who mailed in her applications)

So I got an email from the Gov. saying that my application wouldnt be processed because I didn't send in ID with signature. (Which I knew, because I emailed them to tell them that) It then said to call 1-800-567-6868 if I wanted it back in 5 business days so I could do it over again.

So I started calling at 9am, got through at 11:30, there was 23 people on hold ahead of me. So was on hold for 26 minutes.
The man answers, I say yes, I would like my stuff back within 5 days like you said I could on the email. He says it will take at least 4 weeks! Then why does it say 5 days I ask? He says "Don't listen to the emails. Everything is so backed up. It will take longer than everyone says, all the information they are telling you is wrong!"
AHHHH!
So he said I could reapply in person if I want (after getting pics done again, filling out all the forms etc...) or wait the minimum of 4 weeks, get my other stuff back, and then mail or go in person then.

So, if you sent your application in on Jan29, it will be 3-4 weeks before they even open them.

Hi: I've been lurking in the disboard shadows, both anticipating and dreading when my passports would come back.:hourglass Sent off all 5 applications (DH, 3DS and me) in one envelope via snail mail on Jan 4th, thinking like all other folk that they should be back mid Feb. Then with the delays, got me worried.

Although my Disney trip is Easter (April/07), we are flying out of the States. We don't technically need a passport for crossing a land border, but, need the kids' birth certificates for the border and for boarding the plane....which are with the applications!!

Luckily today, rec'd DH application back as guarantor didn't sign photocopy of his other documents. This is good news as it means THEY OPENED THE ENVELOPE at Gatineau! (approx 32 days after probably receiving the applications). So, my belief is that they are hopefully processing the kids and we should be receiving them sometime by mid March

Thanks to the person who flagged checking the credit card transactions on-line to keep an eye out for the payments for the passports. Once I see that, my anxiety level will come down. :cheer2: I'm thinking of holding onto DH application until our return just to also keep his birth certificate with him for travel purposes (even tho' we can use his driver's license). I just don't want to push our luck! Thanks again to all who write in. It gives great reassurance. Also great jealousy of the cohorts in Southern Ontario who applied in person and rec'd the passports in a fraction of the time (not a feasible option for us people in Northern Ontario--unless you are in Thunder Bay!)

I applied on Jan 16. Last week I phoned, and they said everything was ok, and we should get them in 3 weeks. I waited a week and phoned on Mon 26th. They said everything was in order and it would be 2 weeks. I didn't actually inquire what day they were processing. I sent it in through my MP's courier.

Mailed mine in (Stupid, stupid, stupid.....:sad2: ) on the 4th of January and yesterday got the transaction on my online credit card record... .

I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel....... (Hope it's not a train......:thumbsup2 )

Hi there Nataly,
I m so happy for you.:cool1: When are you palnning your trip.....

Take care
Kazzy:darth:

When I dropped off our passport applications on February 2nd (Mine and 2 kids), they told me they would be ready around February 28th (We leave on May 12th, so we had lots of time).

I have just been informed (my mother is babysitting) that they have arrived at my house.

You can't get much more accurate than that!

p.s. I live in Fredericton... my passport office is about a 5 minute drive from where I live... I filled out my passport application online, and they take those people first in the Fredericton office. I was in and out in 20 minutes. I have nothing but good things to say about the whole process and the people involved.

ANALOGY ALERT!!!

Think of getting your passport as a thrill ride (woo hoo :crazy2:). You want to get to the front of the line as quickly as possible. Filling out your passport application online and printing it is like getting a FastPass.... It moves everything along more quickly.

Mike in the Maritimes.

Hi again Nataly,
are you from the Montreal region.... If so where from.... I think we went to school together.:3dglasses

My dw called today about our passports. As of today(Feb 28th) they were working on Jan 8th. Just thought I'd inform everyone and hope everyone will do the same.
