We are planning for a trip for Dec 2016. If I cannot get all vacation dates cover, I will need wifi connection for work. Is the wifi reliable? If not, is there a place close by I can go to.
Thanks

We were last at Aulani in October 2014. Our villa was on the 11th floor of the Ewa Building Phase 1 and the wi-fi was good while in the villa. The connection was strong and the speed was adequate. We noticed some weak or lost signals when we ventured out to the lagoon or near the adult pool area.

If having reliable wi-fi was essential to me, I would invest in a mobile wi-fi hot spot. I figure that a resort could have great wi-fi coverage in 95% of its rooms, but I'd probably end up in the 5% that has poor or no signals.

We were JUST there last week ... Room 531, so pretty dead center of the resort. WiFi seemed great for us! (All Apple products, if that matters!)

Thank you for the reply and suggestion on mobile wi-fi hotspot. Will definitely look into it if unable to get time off. It will be the last Christmas before both children graduate -- i.e. they will have guarantee holiday off.

We were on the 16th floor for 11 days in June. No problem with wifi anywhere.

I'm here now on the 11th floor of Ewa tower and am pleasantly surprised at how fast it is. Much better than both the Hilton and Four Seasons on the Big Island where we were last week.

Thank you all taking the time to post the info. I really appreciate it

I've stayed there 3 times, the most recent less than 4 weeks ago and we have always had great success with the wifi. We have been in both the Waianae and Ewa towers and usually on the higher floors. I don't recall any of us trying the use the wifi much when out and about, just mostly quick online checks when in our room. We also use Apple, fyi. Aulani is AWESOME!!

Thank you... my work computer is a PC. Hopefully it will connect too. My husband said may be can use cell phone data to connect if wifi does not work. (I have no idea what he is talking about). Hoping 1) can get booking during Christmas / New year time; and 2) can get vacation approve.... Funny that I am stressing over Christmas 2016.

Bookworm, I am sure your laptop will work with no problems at all. And I TOTALLY get your angst in planning a vacation so far ahead. In just a few weeks I will be on the phone praying to be a first caller to the other TS we own that we can and MUST book at precisely 13 months out to get the weeks we want. It IS stressful. And unlike DVC, you can't put in a W/L! Yikes…. I'll bet you'll be okay, especially if you are wanting a room with a view. They cost a bit more and don't seem to go quite as quickly.

We went to Aulani earlier this year in March. The wifi was just okay. Not super fast, but can't couldn't complain!

I take a travel modem with me when I travel. It plugs in to the wired jack but gives you a secure wireless signal. With that, you have your own router and do not have to worry about everyone else on the wifi. 20 - 30 dollars on Amazon.

We were there last January, and it worked really well for us. My husband I both work from home and had some work responsibilities while we were there that include running live meetings. We were both able to do so without issue. We also were able to both do some work on wifi at the same time my son was streaming on his iPad. We were pleased!

Thank you all.
I feel better now and knowing other options is great. Really appreciate you all taking the time to answer my inquiry.
Southerngirl-- best wishes to your planning.

We are currently at Aulani. We have a PC and 2 Kindles. We have had absolutely no issues with the WiFi connection.

What speeds are you getting on this link with your PC? http://rimouski.speedtest.telus.com/
  • do the test in your room.... if you have time also do the test in the lobby. You may notice speeds are different throughout the room and hotel. In my travels, the wifi signals are weaker by the desk/window and strongest in the toilet where its closer to the hallway repeater.
  • what time is the test? Is there a speed slower at night and faster in the morning when there is less use?
You can get apps that can test on your phone too. However, you need to ensure the test is on wifi and not on expensive cellular data.

I did a speedtest.net run in the room while I was there about a month ago. IIRC I was getting about 9 to 10 Mbps for download and just about 4 to 5 Mbps upload. This was on a MacBook Air. It certainly was fast enough for most common web surfing. I did this at night.

The room I was in (3 bedroom GV) has the access point right in the closet next to the main entrance door. I get very strong signals throughout the rooms.

I didn't try the test in the lobby or outside.
