How is the pool at AKL? Our kids will be 1 and 4, so a big slide is not as important. We like the zero entry.

The pool at AKL is awesome. I am 23 and I love it, but the beach entry end is awesome. There are always smaller children playing in that area. You said the slide is not important, but there is a slide that that seems pretty cool. There are some pretty good pictures of the pool online also. Good luck!!

AKL pool does have zero entry.

The slide is all the way on the opposite side of the pool. It's a nice slide, but I wouldn't let the 1 year old go down alone, and I'm not sure if they let you double slide. They're strict at that pool.

Great for children - ours were 6 & 4, DD4 a non-swimmer - and they loved it. There are floaty toys in the pool and life-vests for non-swimmers (although there sometimes weren't any left). Hope you have a great time. :beach:

I remember a woman telling the life guard there were no more life-vests for her son... the life guard made a call on her radio, and someone came out a few minutes later with a vest for her little boy!
So if there are no vests... ask and maybe they could get you one.

AKL is gorgeous! My favorite pool of the resorts we've stayed at so far.

How is the bus system at AKL? Right now we have a ressie at Poly, but I am having second thoughts becuase of the price.

The pool is great! It was heated in Feb & nice. Our DS2.5 played in the zero entry area. It's large too. I like how they had life vests available. The bus service is wonderful. It was very efficient. We never waited long for a bus & the trips to the parks were not long. It took 5 min to AK, 10-12 min to MGM/Epcot, & 16-18 min to MK. There were no other stops along the way at any other resorts. We have stayed at both Poly & AKL and I would pick AKL over Poly anytime. I loved everything about AKL. The animals, the activities for kids around the resort, the restaurants, the theme, just impressed w/it all. Poly was not worth the price & we had a code that saved us $300. If I really wanted a monorail resort, I would pick GF or Contemporary. We had so many problems that happened during our Poly stay that affected our park time.
Anyway, we would never stay at Poly again, but I would love to own DVC at AKL!

Thanks for the info on AKV we're making our first trip there for Halloween in 08. Looking forward to an afternoon at the pool with the DisFam!!:thumbsup2

Pretty decent, one of my favorites. As others said, it has zero-entry, which is great if you're hanging with a baby. :)

We loved the pool area at the resort and it's so lush. The zero entry is great and the overall pool area is spacious with plenty of seating. It's one of our favorite pool areas on property.

Things we didn't like:
Depending on your room location, it can be a very long walk. Some of the Savanah View rooms are more than .1 miles from the pool area.

We didn't really like how there was one pool (no "quiet pool) and that there was nothing to "look at" so to speak; especially with it's courtyard set up. For instance when comparing it to the Polynesian, you have the Castle and Sevens Seas Lagoon as your back drop; at AKL it's rooms and lush trees. It does give the area a very private, seculded feel though, minus all those rooms lookin' at ya ;)

We thought the bus system was "ok" but we experienced better at ASmu. On our most recent trip we were trying to get from AK to DTD and figured we catch a bus to the AKL since it was the closest. It was about a few hours before closing and AKL had the longest line in the park, even longer than Pop and the All Stars :confused3

:thumbsup2 THE POOL IS GREAT FOR SMALL CHILDREN SO IT'S A GREAT CHOICE.
SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS

Flamingo pond backs up the pool area... very pretty to see all the light pink african flamingos!
If you go further back, where they have the night vision viewing for the animals, you have one of the savannahs there so you can view the animals too.

The area is very lush! And one of the children's activities is to try to find different fauna listed on a check sheet around the pool area.

The rooms can be quite a distance from the pool area as the other poster said. If you're not getting a pool view (most of those are just an elevator ride down to the pool, and you're getting a savannah view, try to get the arusha savanna, Zebra trail. It's the side closest to the pool area.

We rarely use the busses because we rent a car, but when we have for evening magic hours, the busses were not crowded, and pretty fast to AK.. less than 5 minutes..lol. MK took about 15 or so.

I have not stayed at the Poly but have been there many times to eat and visit, but being a monorail resort, I would think it would be great if you had young kids and a lot of stuff to tote around.
I do agree with one of the other posters though, if I had to choose from the monorail resorts.. I would choose the Grand Floridian. But.. if I were choosing from all the resort, I'd choose AKL! We just Love it!

I have heard that the new pool and interactive water play area at Kadani Villiage will be even more impressive. Has any one else heard the same?
