How is the DIS bankrupting you?

Are the tutu skirts the same thing as sparkle skirts? So confused lol

Thanks.

Google magical Labor Day deal Disney .... You'll get what you're looking for. ::yes:: I saved more than 50% for my 2 weeks at the Poly in August.:banana::banana::banana::banana:

We used that same deal to book our August trip Saturday and was able to do Poly instead of POR. We're soooo excited!!

I don't think we bought anything special for our first trip, but this thread now has me checking out golf skorts, packing cubes, Keens, cooling towels...the list goes on, for our next trip. Really enjoying this thread!

Party tickets for families with kids that wont stay up past 10!
Been there, done that. Too many times. I have learned I can have fun at the party, even being solo!
made the mistake of looking up what sparkle skirts are :sad2:

...now i need some :ssst:

but first let me ask, are they REALLY worth $70? I will say that after a few days at Disney, if i'm not wearing long enough shorts, chafing does get to be an issue. do the shorts underneath ride up at all?

Similar to the previous poster, am I the only one who really doesn't find the sparkle skirts to be that cute. I've looked and looked at them because I feel like I must need one. I just don't see any that I would actually wear.
I personally do not wear Sparkle Skirts because I don't care for the patterns but I know lots of runners that swear by them. The shorts are long enough to prevent chaffing and they all tell me they do not ride up.
I have quite a few skorts, dresses and shorts that I wear while in the parks. My favorites are from Athleta and are the Stretch in Skort, The Palisades (I also have the both Skort and shorts) and the Trekkie Skort.

Damn I want a sparkle skirt!!! Just need the body.. motivation to lose 50 pounds...

This thread made me laugh.. Guess who want to walmart and got frog toggs things... didnt even know they existed!!!

I caved and bought 2 sparkle skirts! I can't believe I spent that much on a skirt...to wear to Disney. Oh well, I justified it because the ones I got could double duty as part of a halloween costume!

I leave in four days, so now comes the time in the trip planning and packing when I remember all the things that I was going to get but forgot!

I was following along on this thread, then decided to avoid as I was trying to save money, and yet now I am filled with regret for the cool and useful things that I wanted to get but it's too late...maybe not too late for new running or golf skort...

Yay for your trip coming up so soon!!

I hear you on looking at stuff I didn't buy with regret. DH said we didn't need collapsible water bottles. Since DDP comes with mugs we can't fill in the parks, we can fill those with water. I have to concede that point. But I'm trying to convince him we need (NEED) a new backpack. He pointed out we still have our backpacks from college (um, literally almost 20 years ago). Sigh. I really want a new backpack. :charac2:

Any and all Vera Bradley. Duh! I'm selling my right arm to get a pair of Vionics. And I think the people in my small town think I get paid to advertise for Disney because I had to buy a different Mickey/Minnie tshirt for each day I was in the park. Now those are the only tshirts I own...purging was part of Lent :rotfl2:
Still buying scrapbook stuff for my dd's book(from Aug '14 trip) because you KNOW how important it is to scrapbook 300 pictures. And all the other craft supplies because I HAVE to have Disney crafts to do even though I don't have a trip planned for anytime soon. EX: I was bored the other day and just HAD to make Haunted Mansion Mickey ears to wear around the house...JUST BECAUSE. Oh, and the HM ornament too....I need help.

This sounds all too familiar

The only thing I've ever purchased solely based on convincing myself it was necessary after reading about it on the DIS, and later realizing it was a waste, was a custom cake. It was very pretty, but there was only two of us and we had six character buffets in a 5 day trip. Last thing we needed was extra food, even if it was birthday cake. I'm sure under different circumstances, the cakes are great, but in our situation on that particular trip, it was definitely unnecessary overkill

For me, it's the vacations/events themselves! So many fun events to attend, or at least try to! I'd love to attend the July event, but just don't think I can make it work. But I'll be on PCC 6.0, and attended last year's DISAppalooza and PCC 5.0 the year before.

I did buy the packing cubes, though, and have found them very useful.

What are frog togs??? I've seem them mentioned in several responses and all I can find on google is that they are rain suits. I can't imagine why anyone would recommend a full rain suit to wear in the parks so can someone tell me what they are? I'm confused... haha!

Frogg togs are a cooling towel. Dry they come in a tube. Get them wet and they are supposed to help cool you down when worn around the neck or wherever

Frogg Toggs is the brand. What everyone is referring to is the FT Chilly Pad. There are different kinds so it might not be the exact name of every style because some are more square/rectangular and others are narrow. I liked the regular chilly pad because I could roll it in thirds and drape it around the back of my neck. It stayed cool for such a long time! DD12 though liked the narrow one that had a little slit in it so one end could be tucked into the other to be secure. Not necessary though by any means. She was just small and the size fit her. FYI...The regular chilly pads can be cut in half or thirds even. I also cut a strip and used it as a headband at times. Lol All in all, I LOVED this product and don't get why others don't, including DH and DSs. It saved me from going beserk with the August heat and humidity!:sunny:

A while back there was a post about how being on the disboards negatively affected your planning (as in, you knew too much which caused problems). Allow me to create an offshoot to that - how are the Dis boards causing you to buy more than you should. Allow me to give you an example ...

Long ago in a galaxy far, far away, I was told I needed Frog Togs to successfully navigate any Disney vacation. This was by a real life person. Ok, Frog Togs. :thumbsup2 Except said Frog Togs were heavy, bulky, and were worn a grand total of 30 mins the entire trip. Oh well. Live and learn. But what exactly have I learned (now that I have the disboards)? Ahh, let me tell you.

I learned about good athletic sandals, whose existence I was only vaguely aware of before I asked (yes, I asked, my own fault, I know). Now I own 4 pairs of them (but I got them on sale!). Which is totally necessary because I also learned that sundresses are the way to go in the parks. Oh. I've only recently begun to re-embrace non-wedding related dresses after a 15 year hiatus. So yes, sundress. Got it!

But wait! There's more!

One can't wear a cool, short sundress unless one also wears shorts/shimmies/slipshorts/bikershorts under it or there will be chaffing! I've never had such chaffing, but I've never worn sundresses at Disney World before! So Body Glide (but I justify because my old non-athletic flats cause blisters at work so this is totally dual use!!). And did you notice that? Plural. Plural sundresses. Oops. I'm sure they were on sale. Or maybe they're just breeding in my closet. And if I wear said awesome dresses which don't typically come with pockets (curses, designers of women's clothing), I will need a cross body bag. And then, because I would not want to jump too far into embracing non-wedding related dresses, I need new capris. No, too pedestrian. I need hiking pants! I do. I need them (I hiked 2 mountains ... in 2007). They don't stain and they're cool and light weight and also on sale. Oh, and speaking of lightweight I need misters, because we already established that the Frog Togs are too heavy and bulky. Misters will certainly be better.

And then there's the pins I got my kids to trade, the customized autograph books with colored retractable sharpies (my kids' Disney experience would be totally subpar without them!!), trinkets to trade with the Jawas, wrinkle releaser, and various glow stuff to keep the kids happy without having to take out a second mortgage to get them in the park (never mind that I'm needing a second mortgage just to get to the park).

And then today, was the coups de gras. Packing cubes. I had no idea what they were. I am not organized by nature. Nor does that fact bother me under normal circumstances. I get by just fine. But I was thinking these were some collapsible grids of canvas or something (fabric cubbies?). How would that be useful? Only crazy neurotic over scheduled, over planning, over thinking people would get something like that. Right? Right??!! Oh. They're separate suitcases to put in my suitcase so I don't go pawing through looking for socks on day 1 and creating a complete and total mess of wrinkled clothes (but I bought wrinkle releaser!!!!!!)?

Raspberry small/medium classic/slim combo pack.

I hope you've enjoyed this summary of useful things from recent posts. Please understand that if you were the person to suggest any of the things above, I really do appreciate it. I am just mocking myself and my inability to be rational about what I need and don't need. Each individual item, I'm sure, will be very useful. Taken as a whole ... well, I just need to close the Amazon app and step away.

So anyone else need a Disney pre-trip purchasing 12 step group?

You say "going bankrupt for vacation" like it's a bad thing.

Gee, thanks, OP! I never heard of packing cubes prior to reading this thread today, and now I've visited Amazon, and am trying to convince myself as to why I need them. :-)
