We have never been here before but my Mom is wanting to try it. Can someone please tell me what you think about it? The good, bad & the ugly. :rotfl2:

You will get of "love it" and a lot of "it was okay" and a lot of "didn't like it."

We are in the last category...didn't like it. We've not been since 2003. We went for lunch around 1:00 in the afternnon. There were a total of six or seven tables occupied in the entire restaurant and you would have thought itw as wall to wall people with the service we received. Also, the food was mediocre at best (my meal was sent back twice). DH had the much talked about grapefruit cake for dessert and thought it was awful (and my DH LOVES desserts of all kinds). We usually give each place two tries, but we've not been back because we are on the dining plan and don't think it worth two credits when there are so many places that we really, really like.

Best Cobb salad I have ever had. I liked that it was a bit quieter and I had excellent service. pirate:

I'm on the fence. I, too, am a huge fan of the Cobb salad but the rest of the food in this 'straunt tasted good but not great. We had a very good waiter when we were there last March.

We're kicking around the idea of a Dec 2010 trip and this place will be on our list for sure based solely on the strength of that salad.

It is 2 credits btw

The Brown Derby in my humble opinion is the best restaurant in Hollywood Studios. The service is great and so is the food. The cobb salad is very good and so is the steak with boniato mash. I also love the pasta appetizer - its a mushroom ravioli - very very good. The only thing I was not impressed with was the grapefuit cake - I love desserts that are super sweet and this one just didn't do it for me but my husband loved it. Enjoy.

we eat at the Brown Derby on every trip. Not our absolute favorite, but in our top 5.

Service is awesome. Of course we are 2 empty nesters and prefer the quiet, more adult atmosphere. Food is very good. It's a nice calm place amidst the noisy chaotic theme park.

We do not do the dining plan because we eat at the 2 TS restaurants mostly.

Hollywood Brown Derby is one of our favorites! Not only do we love the amotsphere but service was really excellent. Our server from last year was from Morocco and spent lots of time answering our questions about her country. She was very efficient and friendly. This past Feb. our server was a different lady and she was fabulous! We had questions about the menu and she was super helpful and very attentive. My DH ordered a glass of wine called Marilyn Merlot (get it, Marilyn Monroe!) and I thought it was hilarious! The server said it has lips on the wine bottle and then went to get one to show us. She was so friendly! Plus, my DD7 knocked her iced tea over and she came lickety split to clean it up and bring her another. She reassured my daughter that she spills stuff all the time which was sweet because my poor daughter was really embarrassed to have spilled!

As to the food, it's delicious! DH and split the Cobb salad which they mix table-side for you. Then I had the steak which was really good and DH had the pork tenderloin and it was out of this world! For dessert he had the grapefruit cake (ok I ate half of his too!) which was very good and I had the chocolate cake which was so yummy! We think it's a great place to eat because of the amotsphere, service and food. It's a must do on every trip now even though it's 2 table service credits!:goodvibes

Is the Brown Derby Two table credits? If so, it's OUT! :lmao:

It is indeed. But it's one of our top two park restaurants, the other being Bistro de Paris. We've not had a bad experience there in a dozen or so tries. But ... who's to say you might get a bad server, or the kitchen is off, or you simply don't like the food?

It's all subjective, y'know.

If BD is out, hop a boat over to the Boardwalk area and try something there. We like Spoodles, and it's only 1 credit.

Thank you for all of your responses. :) I told my mom that it was two and she said that they would think about it. :confused3 Oh well, I tried. :rotfl:

It is 2 TS but honestly it is the best place in HS in my opinion. I had the tuna steak there when we went in December and it was my favorite meal of the trip.

DH and I love HBD. It is one of our faves on property, noy just at DHS. We have had excellent dinners there every trip, with very good to excellent service. I suppose it does depend on your tastes and when you are there.

We think it is well worth the 2 TSes.

I went with my mom during our last trip this past January. We had an early ADR for dinner and was one of the first people seated.

Our waiter was quite nice and went over the menu with us, brought us warm bread, took our drink order and gave us some time to decide.

My mom had the 1/2 chicken, which she really enjoyed. It was a large serving and the chicken was moist and tasty. I had the salmon with mascarpone polenta with gorgonzola. The fish was wonderful and the polenta was good but a little salty.

This was the second time I have eaten there. The first time was for lunch and I had the cobb salad (didn't care for it because I don't like my salads chopped so fine, makes me feel like someone cut my food up for a baby); but I wanted to give it a second chance and I am happy I did.

If we go again during my next trip in August, I am going to try this one!!
