How is Akershus for dinner?

We've booked the dinner there for July because my daughter loves princesses. Has anyone eaten dinner there recently? Could you share your opinions and experiences? Thanks!

We ate there in December. The princess interaction was good, though brief. The food is OK, not great. The appetizer course is a buffet featuring traditional Norwegian foods (pickled herrings, native cheeses, etc) as well as more standard stuff such as tossed salad, breads, cold cuts, etc.

For entrees, I had the vegetable pasta, which was fine, a little bland, but fine. The portion was way too big though. Dsis had the salmon, which she said was fresh but overcooked. The children enjoyed their meals--standard stuff--hot dogs, etc. (DH skipped this meal and went to watch the Pats at the ESPN club)

The dessert plate is served family style and was nice. My favorite part was the rice cream. The kids really enjoyed this part.

Overall, I was glad we took the kids, as we got some nice photos of them with the princesses, but I would not do it again, unless the kids asked to go.

It was by far the most disgusting food I have ever eaten.....But the princess interaction was great...We will not go back!!

There are a lot of Diser's who love the food there though, so you will find lots of mixed reviews on this one.

What's so disgusting about it???? Does anybody like it? Should I cancel the ADRs and go elsewhere?

I answered in your other thread. :) But I'll give more detail here.

Have you seen the menu?

Many are turned off by the Norwegian items - I know I was when I read the menu.

We went anyway because DD wanted to see Ariel in her gown.

DD & DH will eat almost anything. I'm very picky. I figured I could always trade DD for her chicken kid's meal.

liamsaunt described the cold buffet well. I stuck to the more common foods -no way was I going to try herring. I did try the goat cheese & didn't like it.

For entrees DH got venison (I think it was stew), which we had never had. He convinced me to taste it & it was good - nothing to make me think it wasn't beef.

I tried the kjotkaker (which is probably spelled wrong). It's a Norwegian meatloaf, and it was good too. I agree with liamsaunt about the portions. It And we aren't light eaters.

Along with the rice cream, there was chocolate mousse, and ligonberry tart for dessert.

i have seen several threads of people saying they didnt like the food, but it seems most didnt like the food because they don't like norwegian food, not becasue the food was badly prepared. i have seen other threads of people who like the norwergian food complaining that it is now a princess meal. from what i have read, it seems that the food is slightly americanized norwegian food liked by those who like norwegian food and disliked by more simple eaters...

It wasn't our favorite food but the atmosphere is very nice. The cold buffet is good, they have sliced meats and cheeses, you can make a sandwich if nothing else! We all got various things, including the venison, lamb, meatloaf thing and the pasta. I have to say, it all tasted extremely salty. It wasn't bad, but I certainly did not enjoy it as much as the food we had at Le Cellier. If the Norweigan menu turns you off, go for breakfast which is standard American breakfast fare. I also second the rice cream, its delicious!
