We returned home from Disney just recently and on our last day at Epcot I saw the most appalling thing ever. Maybe I am just being a snob, but when we were headed to test track I saw a man letting his son urinate right next to a monorail pole. He was about 6 years old and there was a bathroom just around the corner!

Right in plain view of everyone walking by. I said something discreetly to my husband so my kids wouldn't take notice and he said "I guess he had to go" UGH.....I think this is really rude...

I have a 5 year old boy who I would NEVER let do this.

thats inappropiate, it is not like there is a lack of toliets in disney. when we went last year with a newly potty-trained toddler, we always managed to find a toilet, without a need to let our son drop his trousers in public.

All guys like to drop trou, but not at Disney - what a poor role model.

I didn't see any CM's around but it was busy and there were a lot of people. I did make eye contact with the father and I really wanted to say something but he looked kind of scary....so I let it be.

I just find it really rude that someone would allow their child to do this and take them to do it at that. The boy certainly didn't look newly potty trained (he was bigger than my 5 year old).

I think its disgusting to do that in public let alone in Disney World. There are so many bathrooms...I guess some people just don't care...!

I wish they got caught from an on-looking CM. They diserve to be scolded for doing a gross thing in such a magical place.

while i agree it is inappropriate, a few other things come to mind.

1. never say never
2. we don't know all the circumstances (not justifying, just rationalizing)
3. what about when people pull their car off to the side of the highway, is that any different?
4. it would be quite disturbing if it were the father, in this case it was a little kid who's father made a poor choice, for what reasons we don't know.
5. note to self: don't splash in any puddles at Epcot.

Good point, we don't know the situation. No, I don't consider pulling your car off to the side of the road and either using the car doors or woods to go to the bathroom in the same ballpark (or planet) as using a pole at WDW.
LOL! about the puddles. :rotfl:

i can honestly say that i have never and would never let either of my boys urinate in a public place. we arent animals, we use toilets. its inexcusable.

Well:

1) If it was a young child (Potty training age) that had an accident, that's one thing. This is something else.

2) I can't think of ANY circumstance that would make that action appropriate.

3) Pull the off the road is no different. Most places have laws regarding public urination and (at least in my state) if a cop saw you doing that on the side off the road you would have a similar penalty.. (fine and possible arrest, and yes I know someone who was arrested for this..)

4) I would have pointed the father and son out to any CM that I could find. It is inappropriate and unsanitary..

Unbelievable! As a mom of 2 boys (who are now waaay to old to pee outside!) that is something I never let them do anywhere!! I think it's totally disgusting. But especially against the monorail pole at Epcot!!???:scared1:

I totally agree that we don't know the situation. A few possibilities that come to mind having to deal with a boy myself (said boy is now grown and a father of his own).

There could have been something inside the nearby bathroom that the boy or his father didn't like (person, situation, whatever).

There were no stalls available and the boy HAD to go (my son would not use a urinal until he was "developed" - husband told me, no first hand experience, of course).

They didn't know the bathroom was right around the corner. How many theme parks have you been to where you have had to intently search out a bathroom with your child saying "but I have to go NOW!", crossing their legs and maybe even not making it? Sure, Disney World has bathrooms very handy but if this was a first timer, who knows?

This is a minor thing for me. You haven't lived until you've seen a woman IN the bathroom who couldn't wait and used the sink.

i don't think it's appropriate at all, just saying we don't know all the circumstances. maybe the kid dropped trow before the dad knew - very hard for a kid to stop mid-stream. maybe the kid was going to have an accident and the dad didn't have anything to change him into or money to buy some new clothes at the gift store. maybe where they come from that is totally normal thus they didn't even think twice. myabe the dad is just a bad dad...who knows.

personally i would be more upset over a parent verbally assaulting their kid or hitting them or dragging them around by their arm. i see this all the time in public, i don't see any posts here denouncing that.
