How inappropriate is this??

while i agree it is inappropriate, a few other things come to mind.

1. never say never
2. we don't know all the circumstances (not justifying, just rationalizing)
3. what about when people pull their car off to the side of the highway, is that any different?
4. it would be quite disturbing if it were the father, in this case it was a little kid who's father made a poor choice, for what reasons we don't know.
5. note to self: don't splash in any puddles at Epcot.
1) I think we can say never here.
2) Very true. But there HAD to be other options. I rememeber holding my child against my body tightly because I was sure he was going to pee and I figured that if he had to get it anywhere, he could get it all over me. This was while on the ferry from MK to TTC. He was crying from pain because he had to go so bad. Somehow we made it but the bathrooms at TTC were closed. So we got on the bus to get to our off-site hotel and although the bus we were on in the morning had a bathroom, this one did not. We sat in the back and there was nobody within ten rows from us so I had him pee into a coke cup. He was so happy. And although I begged him to keep quiet, he made sure that he told the bus driver that he peed on his bus as we were exiting. Ahhh, out of the mouths of 3 year olds......
3) The side of the road is completely different. Don't forget, we have two issues here, the issue of being decent in public which sometimes takes a back seat to personal pain, and the issue of cleanliness and health. On the side of the road, I can position myself so that maybe someone can see me but they can't see my 'business' but I also know that nobody will be sitting in my mess later in the day.
4) You're right. Much different thing and slightly more forgivable than if it were the dad relieving himself.
5) Yep. And don't assume that just because you're pooped (pun intended) after a long day that you can just plop yourself down and use the monorail pole as a back rest. I mean, it's Disney World. It's clean, right?

I am thinking that if CM witnessed this, the family would have been removed from the park at a minimum.

The family would not have been removed from the park. That's punishing the child for a bad decision by the father. They'd have had a chat with either Security or a manager to determine why the father made that choice, it would have been explained to them why it was a bad choice, they would have been given a map to point out the bathrooms, and sent on their way. A report would have been done, and custodial would have been told to come and clean or spray the area (disinfectant). Now ... if it had been the ADULT who was peeing in public, they'd have been escorted out and probably detained by Security while a report was filed. But not for a kid.

I know it seems hard to believe, but that child was not the first to relieve himself inside the park without the benefit of a bathroom. It happens every day. In bushes, behind buildings, in pools, in the lake off the side of boats, sometimes even in lines, if the parent can't get out of the line and to a bathroom fast enough or if the parents simply don't want to lose their place in line. More than one character has been peed on by a really excited kid (or a kid who just needs a diaper change), and certainly it's happened on virtually every attraction in the water parks (thank goodness for chlorine). Most of the cases are not quite as blatant as this one, but it's a pretty regular occurance. Disney is generally able to catch it quickly, clean and disinfect as necessary, and move on with little fuss. Children are not ejected from the park for not being able to "hold it" until they get to a bathroom.

Poor decision on the adults in his group. Secondly, IMO- parents of young children need to be asked and TOLD to go to the bathroom. I remember at that age, being taken to the bathroom and told to 'try and go' regardless of whether I had to or not- every 2-3 hours or so I bet. This is what you do when you are out having fun with kids.

Kids often are so wound up with fun and happiness that they can forget they have to pee and then when they figure it out, it's too late. Moral of the story-take your kids to go pee every 2-3 hours...most likely they will at least go a bit and these problems won't occur.

On a side note- last year there was a post like this and LOADS of people came on claiming that this was not a huge deal b/c the kid probably had a disability and needed to go and blah blah blah.

It was hilarious to read all the reasons WHY this was a plausible and ok option...needless to say it was a hard faught popcorn:: fight. I was ready for this one to turn into that. I'm shocked people haven't used the disability option yet.

I have posted this before but since were on the subject.. We were in line for Sorin' and these parents let their child pee in a water bottle... yes right in line behind me I was absolutely disguested!! and they laughed about it.. definaltly unsanitaty and just plane sick!! they then threw the pee bottle in the trash can in line! I would say the boy was about 4 years old but still peeing in public.. not a good idea!

That is not an acceptable reason. My daughter and I had been waiting in a line for a long time last year and as we approached the beginning she announced that she had to go to the bathroom. She has had 3 surgeries on her kidneys and bladder, so "holding it" is not an option. We obviously left the line to take her to the bathroom. I could never justify letting her use the bathroom in public just because she has urinary problems. If she has an accident in her pants on the way to that bathroom, well ok. But never just let your child use the bathroom out in public!

Just as a side note, it is very VERY common at the start of the WDW Marathon, for the male marathoners to go off to the trees and bushes by the starting line and pee just before the starting gun. There are dozens of porta-potties brought in, but those are almost exclusively used by the women. The male runners, for some reason, see it as part of the pre-race ritual that they must perform before they start. The first time I worked the marathon, I was amazed at the number of men taking part in this ritual! It is apparently common at major races and allowed everywhere. Granted, race start is pre-dawn and there are not guests in the area.

:earsboy:

Yes, this happens at other marathons, too. My dh runs in them, though not the WDW one. And I was shocked to see this happenning as well. These are adults. And only some of them even try to be discrete enough to go behind something first. I have seen more than I care to.

Urine is sterile and free of bacteria

Urine is used as a fertilizer.

Urine can prevent wild animals from crossing the 'line"

Urine from pregnant mares can help menopausal women.

I don't condone peeing on the monorail pole, but I'll have to admit I am have been an outdoor Disney pee-er! I was doing the half-marathon and had to pee - the port-a-potties had lines a mile long and I couldn't wait that long so I went behind some bushes in the middle of World Drive with lots of other runners! I don't think any of you have to worry though - I'm pretty sure I only caused a puddle for the armadillo and deer of Disney World!

But I swear I would never pee in a park - I promise!! :rotfl:

With the Tour de France starting Saturday, this discussion reminds me to warn people that if the TV shows one of them stopping during the race . . . .

Thankfully, the TV folks are aware of the risks.

I think we can all agree that this is completely inappropriate.

And that this thread has very little to do with helpful trip planning or strategizing a visit to the parks.

Yeah.. it's FORK sticking time..
