How important is rope drop?

I'm a big RD fan. There is a whole lot to do in the day and having a little one complaining in a very long line isn't fun for anyone.

MK- RD right to fantasy land. Walk on to every ride. The rest of the day is a cakewalk. Plus you get the opening ceremony and beat a lot of the heat.

We rarely do RD and like the parks better at night, so we rather stay til closing. We can get almost just as many rides in at the end of the night as we do when we do RD. We really only do RD to see the show at MK. Also; we ignore the crowd calendars, to me they are as accurate as predicting the weather.

I'm glad to see that so many other do not do rope drop!

Again, I have nothing against it...everyone is different. Since I was a kid we always slept in and took our time, but we also visited often. Now that I have taken my niece for her first 2 visits(1 week each time/2 weeks total), I feel like we can relax more, sleep in more and takes some shorter trips when it's possible and not feel like we have to do it all.

Reading anything about visiting WDW anymore and you would think everyone is rope drop or bust!

We have never done rope drop. My family members are night owls. Many of our trips were in August, and we never missed doing anything we wanted because of long waits.

We always do rope drop for MK...mainly because I like the opening show, seeing the residents of Main Street, and the overall vibe of MK early in the day. You can get alot done. We were picked right after rope drop in Sept 2012 to be Grand Marshals of the afternoon parade while chatting with a woman in a shop, who turned out to be a manager. So that was neat. I used to like to get a treat at the bakery and chill, but now that it is Starbucks, meh....
