How important are future resorts to you?

That is true but it all depends on how long you plan on keeping your DVC timeshare what would be most cost effective. I couldn't find any "hard" data but have see 7 to 10 years in several post as the average holding time which wouldn't surprise me since that would fall into a time period where your children would be old enough to full enjoy the parks and end when other family expenses (college) start.
That is repeated often, but it's a factoid, not true. It is estimated that between 60% and 70% of OKW is still owned by the original purchasers, going strong after 30 years. Average might be over 20 years now and growing.

If DVC comes with a new resort that's really extraordinary, then who knows. For now I'm all good, and enjoy what I have.
Yea for now I’m good with it, but who knows what the future will bring.

Very important. Also keep in mind that in 18 years, resorts that re-sale can currently stay at will start to expire. So as time passes, those with resale only points will lose access to more and more resorts. So it's not just about being able to stay at brand new resorts but also being able to continue to stay at existing resorts.
Technically it’s going to run out in 16, or less if you borrow from your last year.

For us I'd say it's pretty important. In my life there will be plenty of ways to recoup the differential between direct and resale and in hindsight I kind of wish I had bought more direct to be honest but it's fine because I don't have an issue using my resale points only at their home resorts. If I had though I would've been able to keep everything in one use year and have all of my points available for RIV. Who knows, if Lakeshore Lodge has an amazing pool it might be tempting to use some of our points there too.

Tough to answer.

Hybrid (Direct, Resale but grandfathered and resale restricted) owner. I would like to say I wouldn’t have FOMO but know myself better. Our last two purchases (one direct and one resale). The resale was filler for us needing larger rooms. The direct was to give us a little longer with direct points when we are older to stay anywhere. I also think about in 2060 when we lose Blue Card since the 50 direct will no be enough for Blue Card. I guess what I am saying is, the restrictions, mins for blue card is probably driving what DVC wants which I hate.

Im looking at our DVC purchase like buying a car. Im not looking to min/max the purchase and im not looking to justify it. But what I don’t want is a limit on how far I can drive it or where I drive it to. Given we are planning on keeping this purchase forever, and you can all but guarantee the cost is never going to go down (speaking in terms of buying direct and qualifying for unrestricted use and extra benefits) its a no-brainer for us. So we are in a place now where we are financially comfortable with the purchase, and we can always make small incremental add on purchases if needed if we need more direct points and we have the ultimate flexibility for when the 5th gate happens and any other exciting properties come about.

But really since Riviera is not close to any parks, I think it will be a while before I'm wasting points there.
This is an interesting take! I feel it is quite close to Epcot, being the first stop on the Skyliner. 🤷‍♀️ Disney navigation even has it a faster trip than taking the monorail from Poly or GF to MK.

Am I correct that an SSR resale owner only loses access to 3 resorts at WDW before their contract expires in 2054? The 3 B resorts BCV, BRV and BWV. There are options for access at those locations if you really must stay there any time in your final 12 years of ownership.

Since OKW has an expiration date of 2057 it should have availability.

and if they get transportation right.... 900 rooms is comparable to the grand Floridian....
Im sure they will expand the boats and buses, but can they add a skyliner to the area to service DLL/CFW as well as BRV and WL, maybe? Where could it take you… TTC or maybe down towards Epcot? Could they expand on the Epcot station to be able to get off there or transfer?

I’d love to see the skyliner expanded big time. It’s awesome and such an efficient way to transport people.

It feels like there are more, but I can’t think of any.

I was not aware since I only went on it twice and never looked what it went over.

I thought I read that on a thread on this board but maybe it was somewhere else.
Yea I only know because it freaks me out thinking if something happened. lol

It goes over water at least three times that I can recall from my memory. Heading into Epcot, near Boardwalk, and heading towards Pop Century.
