How I Survived 11 Days at WDW with a Disney-Resistant Husband **2/20 THE END **

Phew! All caught up with comments. I will try to have an update up in the next day or so. I have been busy living life, trying to squeeze everything I can out of the last few weeks of Summer, and the DIS has fallen by the wayside.

I also apologize for once again getting behind on all of the TRs I have been reading. I hope to get caught up next week.

Hope everyone is enjoying a Terrific Summer!:goodvibes

What!!!!!!!!!!!!:lmao: You're making us wait!:scared1: BUT THIS IS MY FAVOURITE THREAD!!!!! Please.....I need to know what your husband did next :rotfl:

Thank you so much for your comments on the Roots photos. I am so, so happy to have them. :goodvibes The experience leading up to the shoot is becoming more and more a distant memory, whereas the photos continue to make me smile wide each time I see them.:goodvibes

Exactly! EVERY family has their "moments". Every.single.one! That's part of life. And I think it makes the sweet moments all the more sweeter! Years from now I'm sure you'll look back with your kids at those photos and tease them (and your husband!) for being so unpleasant during the shoot! And I like what you said on another reply "Momma knows best!" :thumbsup2:thumbsup2;)

Thank you so much!:goodvibes

Funny you should mention about the WDW photo session. I actually tried to convince the Roots to do one session for us on the Boardwalk (which we did), and a 2nd session the next morning at the Magic Kingdom. Unfortunately, WDW prevents outside professional photographers going into the Parks. As a matter of fact, my friend Carrie (lurkyloo) was so lucky to get the Roots to shoot her wedding in Morocco in Epcot before Disney moved to prevent that as well.:sad2: That alone would be enough reason for me to move a wedding to a venue outside the Parks.:snooty:

Oh wow, I didn't realize that, that stinks. You would have to talk the Roots into becoming your "extended" family and shooting candid shots throughout the park as "family" would....hahahahahaha...just kidding.

So when are you posting the ice cream shots?? We wanna see them???!!!!!!! Come on, no holding back on us now!!!:banana::cool1:popcorn::

It sure would be nice to have the Roots in the family, wouldn't it?

Unfortunately, I don't have any of the ice cream shots to post. I don't have the images of these ones to post onto Photobucket.

Sigh! Yes...I won't lie. I was disappointed and frustrated about the photo shoot. And other things about the trip. But fortunately there is so much good in our lives outside of Disney and this trip report. The TR isn't an accurate or complete report of a family...just a trip.;)

That is what I thought and that is so good to know... I knew he had to be a good man outside of Disney in order for you to still be with him! :lmao: He's just a poo poo head at Disney! :lmao:

What!!!!!!!!!!!!:lmao: You're making us wait!:scared1: BUT THIS IS MY FAVOURITE THREAD!!!!! Please.....I need to know what your husband did next :rotfl:

ME TOO!! :rotfl:

Don't worry about being away! I have not updated since June! Yikes.

I just LOVE LOVE your pictures!!! I know that they can be a pain to get ready for, but your family looks beautiful in them. I am very impressed :goodvibes

Hi Trish...I just finished getting caught up! :thumbsup2 Where to start.......Chris not liking Le Cellier AND not wanting to go to the photo shoot! :scared1: Wow, I honestly give you so much credit for handling the situation the way that you did...you must have a lot of patience! With that said, I'm so glad that you got to do the Roots photoshoot with your WHOLE family! :goodvibes The pictures are absolutely gorgeous!!! Looking at them, you would never know what happened prior to them being taken!

Yes - you are so right. All you really can do is laugh and move on!:)

And do I really have to confirm that DH isn't a member of a Disney-lovers forum?:rotfl: Geez...I couldn't even get him to fully appreciate the trip while we were experiencing it? Do ya think he would want to re-live it in a TR?

I figured he wasn't reading it:laughing:, I was kinda hoping he wasn't!!!:rotfl2:

I know it's such a busy time in the summer with the kids... it's going so fast and we start school August 30, when do you start? I just did some school shopping last week. The only good thing about school starting is that it means we are that much closer to our fall trip! Erin

I am not sure how I missed your TR for so long, but I am really enjoying it - even though I am only on the first day. Your kids are adorable. Sorry your first night was so rough and it sounds like you hit some other bumbs in the road along the way. I will just have to go back and catch up! :surfweb:

Joining in! My boyfriend is a Disney resister....it's the crowds & lines! I have to force myself to slow down when he joins me!

Had to comment. Now that I'm caught up on a trip that you obviously planned so well, I'm so bummed that it wasn't appreciated! I hope that when you look back you can remember the moments of joy that were there, and that your DH can remember them too!

Hi. I just wanted to comment that you are not alone in the world!!
I too struggle with a husband that barely tolerates our trips to disney.
By your description of him, it looks like both our husbands share some traits.
He also travels a lot for work and when he is home he hardly ever just sit back and relax as he is either playing tennis or doing something around the house.
He doesn't do crowds or lines very well, neither my two girls 6 and 4, which doesn't help, but to be honest, I don't like them either.
After our trip last summer, we decided never again we will do Orlando that time of the year.
Fortunate for us, we live in south florida at a mere 3 1/2 hour drive to the world and are DVC members. Unfortunately, with my daugther starting first grade this year we are not going to be able to do full weeks out of season anymore (we LOVE to go in January when is cool and not so crowded), so we are picking long weekends in October and January and see how it goes from there.
I wish this will help with DH (and mine) avertion to crowds.
Other thing they share is the healthy food thing, ordering salads everywhere, with dressing on the side. I wish I had the will to do it, I just can do it when I'm on vacation. He, on the other hand will hit the gym during our down time.
Although DH appreciates that I made all the plans and reservations, he will always find a way to drag me out of WDW property to try to get away from all "the crazy people making reservations 6 months in advance". Last time he tooks us out to PF Chang where, guess what? we had to wait at least 30 min to be seated, even with a call ahead. :confused3
I can't wait the time when my DDs are old enough that I can go alone with the two of them to the parks and enjoy ourselves, leaving DH to do gym, walmart or whatever he wants to do in the resort or out of WDW property. :rotfl:
Thanks for sharing your not so magical experience. When I go to WDW and don't have much of a good time because of the attitude of my party, I tend to think that it only happens to me that I would actually enjoy something that the rest of my family doesn't and I'm wasting my time trying to book new things for us to try. Now I know I'm not alone!!

Thanks Katie!:goodvibes Good to see you back! I have so much catching up to do...I haven't read any TRs in ages. That is definitely a sign of a great summer. I figure there will be plenty of time to catch up once the cooler weather is upon us.

Our summer this year has been fantastic! It has flown by though, and September and back-to-school will be upon us before we know it. I will probably continue to be sparce on here until the Fall.

Like you, I also have plenty to look forward to with the fall approaching. It is my absolute favourite time of year!:lovestruc

Thanks so much for posting, and Welcome!:welcome:

Fortunately, I am only on Day 5, and I am not exactly moving quickly these days.:rotfl: I have a feeling there will be limited updates until summer winds down. You can also use the links to catch up quickly.;)

Welcome! :welcome:

Another person having to travel with a resister....I had no idea there were so many of us!

Honestly...now that we are 3 months home from our trip, the good times are what spring to mind when I recall the trip. But because I learned so many good lessons from this trip, I will remember the lows as well.

I started our vacation hoping that our trip experience would cause my husband to fall in love with Disney. I was hoping that we would be one of those families perfectly in sync, where everyone feels and "gets" the Disney magic and is thrilled to be there together in the parks experiencing it as a family. You know...like TimandLesley's family. What I wouldn't give to experience a trip like that. Not that everything is perfectly, 100% magical all of the time. But just knowing that everyone in the family shares an underlying enthusiasm and joy in being on WDW property, and many magical moments together along the way.

There are many aspects of WDW that my husband likes and enjoys. However, he is not one of "us". He just doesn't "get" it like we do. Do I wish it was otherwise? Of course! But now that I finally understand and appreciate this I think our future trips will be a lot less disappointing.;)

Thank you so much for posting and Welcome!:goodvibes

You are right - we certainly do have a LOT in common! What is it with these fit, healthy men who dislike crowds and heat?:rotfl:

At least you are DVC members...you have a guaranteed reason to visit each year. Even if I wanted to buy DVC (which I don't, mainly because I like more flexibility with cancelling and rebooking when necessary to suit our schedules) I would never have been able to talk him into "buying" a piece of Disney.:rotfl:

That said, I can tell you that although we had a rental car our whole 11 days in WDW, we were only ever off property for about 10 hours the day we went to the Beach. (Edited to add that *I* actually got off property a few times to visit the outlets late at nite while the rest of the family was sleeping back in the room.;)). And I faced no complaints from DH about this. He was very happy at the Beach Club. And with all of the Deluxe Dining we did at the Resorts, away from the character meal line ups and the Parks.;)

I lived in Florida for close to two years and would go to Disney or Universal (mostly Disney) every other weekend. (I miss being able to do that!) Heat doesn't bother me. Crowds, a different story but I figure I'd rather deal with crowds and be in Disney World instead of being around few people and not in Disney World! :)

Just read through your TR posts. Your pictures are really great - you do great work! And you have a wonderful knack for story telling :)

Your TR title interested me because my DH is also WDW resistant. I feel your pain with the attitude over the crowds & lines.

It shouldn't but it annoys me to no end to hear my DH or anybody else gripe about these things - as if their time is so much more valuable than anyone else's that they shouldn't have to wait for anything. I mean really, show me anybody who actually ENJOYS being in a crowded, hot line. But sometimes that's just the way it is if you want to see things at WDW so you just grin & bear it

I applaud your self control because if my DH decided after 1.5 hrs he was done for the day, or was going to leave a dinner show after 20 minutes of entertainment, or blow off a photo shoot that you worked hard to schedule I would have gone ballistic :scared1: You have been very gracious in your attitude.

Have you ever considered just doing a moms & kids trip with some of your female relatives? That worked well for me when DS was younger. DH skipping alternating WDW trips worked better for us.

And now that DS is a teen, doing WDW is much more enjoyable for all of us. We will opt to split up a few hours a day so I can tour parks while DH relaxes at the pool. DS just picks who he wants to hang out with for those few hours before we regroup. This works for us & allows everyone to do what makes them happy which really is what a vacation should be.

Just got caught up!

Your Roots photo shoot was amazing!! I would have never guessed your DH and DC didn't want to go at first! What a beautiful loving family you have!

I am with ya!;) I'll take crowds if it means I can be in Disney any day!

Thanks so much for posting!:)

I have done a couple trips with just my daughter (when my son was only 2yrs old and 3 yrs old), and I have no doubt there will be many future trips with just me and the kids. My favourite trip to date was the trip I took with my daughter to CBR.

I have also travelled solo to WDW with girlfriends. No doubt there will be another one of those in future too!

I definitely agree that allowing the family members who aren't crazy Disney fans like the rest of us to sit out a few trips is the way to go!;)

Just got caught up!

Glad you are all caught up! I will have some updates this weekend for sure. They are long overdue! I haven't updated since August 1...yikes!

Hi Trish,
Wow your photo shoot pics turned out fabulous! You would never what a rough time you had before the shoot. I would have had a mommy meltdown if my DH gave me a rough time, kuddos to you for not losing your cool :flower3: . The pics look like a happy memory and that is all that matters. Also I have to ask where did you get that Navy strapless dress you posted a few updates back? I know you were intending to wear it for the photo's. It is a really pretty dress too.
