How I got out of a mixed marriage

popcorn:: Can't wait to see what happens next!!

Great job again. Your report reminds me of the trips we took growing up. I had several set so Aunts/uncles living in FLA so all of our trips were "Day Trips". First 2 were MK (about 3 years apart). Thanks for the memories - looking forward to more!

Great trip report. Thanks for sharing a trip down memory lane. Can't wait for the rest :thumbsup2

Twinkiemama, thank you for sharing this. I am now subscribing to your installments, too. It's such a joy to read and so entertaining. :)

I also remember the days of being very poor. Keepit coming (when you get a chance of course ;) ).

A Trip Report inside of a Trip Report? What a novel (pun intended) idea. I am loving the back story.

So we are standing there glowing in the heat, I declare......
That's just good comedy.

Now we very well may be geeks (I mean, I am posting about my vacation on an internet discussion board… I think the case may be closed) but we loved this attraction. We enjoyed seeing the “typical family” change, we thrill at the moving theater, we loved the history of the whole idea. Walt himself loved this attraction. Sniff
Uh, yeah, I think that ship has sailed. It's not so much that you're writing a trip report (I'm just making a record, "for the children,") it's when you start reading, and getting interested in other people's Trip Reports that you've crossed over into full on nerdiness. Still, the Puppies of Progress (as the ride is correctly identified) is good stuff.

Glad to hear your kid found a grape. My kid found something far more toxic under our couch, but that's really the subject of another thread.

DH begins to walk with purpose towards the castle. DS and I try to keep up by doing the walk-walk-hop-step maneuver through the late afternoon heat.

“You can’t just walk up there and expect to be seated!” I said. Emotions are warring inside of me… on the one hand I am suddenly a little more in love with DH (which as he says is a good thing since I am stuck with him anyway) :lovestruc and on the other hand I am hot and sweaty and appropriately dressed for single handedly fighting crowds on a 48 mile hike through the Kingdom. This is a lifelong dream but I really didn’t expect it to happen like this. Besides I am wondering if Cindy does a credit check... well maybe she wouldn't but I would bet anything that the stepsisters are running the books and they would in a heartbeat.

“Well why not?” He says as he continues to walk at a Mach 5.
“Because it is Very Expensive. Very Very Expensive. Anyway everyone who is going to eat there got up at 6 am 90 days ago”
“What? Well, surely someone has canceled in the last 90 days.” Oh so now he is an optimist.
“ Hon-ey, this is the most popular eating establishment in the World. People try for years to eat breakfast with Cinderella”
“Why breakfast?”
“Well, breakfast is a character meal but they also serve lunch and dinner and she may stop by but she isn’t guaranteed to be there.”
This stops him in his tracks. He pauses as he considers this… hmm... perhaps it just isn't the beef calling his name... and then resumes his speed walk right towards the entrance of her royal table.

Now I am too shy to actually ask the CM guarding the gate about the possibility of a table for 3. I feel certain that they will actually laugh and point out that they are booked up until 2054 and that anyone who is anyone knows this. DH is not burdened by any such knowledge. He marches up to the CM and is politely told that no nothing is available this evening and no it isn’t possible to be “squeezed in”. :sad2: :sad2: :sad2:

Now you thought with all the lead up that we were going to be squeezed in and meet Cinderella and perhaps get to ride in the glass pumpkin in the evening parade.

So did I. I still get butterflies thinking about it, here years later.

So after being refused entrance to the Castle we decide to browse in the conveniently located gift store. In there I see some of those little princess cone hats with the scarf like streamers. princess: These are so cute… they have about a nickels worth of material in them and they are very reasonably priced at $34.99 plus tax. So I decide to take advantage of my DH (or the pod person masquerading as him) and say “Thanks for trying. I do want to come back here one day and eat with Cinderella. You know ever since I was a little girl I have wanted to eat in the castle. I would love to bring my little girl here one day... and even though it is ridiculously overpriced I want her to have one of these hats.”

“Why sure honey we will do that. Since we can’t eat here now, let’s go ride the Jungle Cruise.”

He may have thought that this was just a conversation we had in a gift shop at the Magic Kingdom. In my mind this is a contract! Notice how I have negotiated for a) a return trip b) a meal with Cinderella c) a souvenir budget for the return trip and d) a baby girl!

Up next: In the jungle, the quiet jungle….

I am also loving this report.

I am also a geek.

And a nerd.

Welcome to the Dis.

Heh heh.

Let me help you out here: PEDANTRY means "an ostentatious and innappropriate display of learning".

Big surprise. There. Duh.

Anyhow... keep it coming. More! More! More!

Cheers, Mel Ono.

P.S. The Jungle Cruise is fun. And you can probably get into that one.

:moped:

Unfortunately (or is it fortunately) for me, reading and/or writing a trip report is nowhere even in the top 10 nerdy things I have done but that too is another thread….
Thanks for the welcome happyhaunt- I have always enjoyed your posts.
And now for an excerpt from an email I received today….

"Hello, I have been reading your report and it is very interesting.
Your husband sounds like a great guy. You are very lucky to have
him. Just one thing though, you need to get a picture to go with your
name like everyone else. You are quickly earning status as a legend
on the board, yet you have a junior varsity name because it has no
picture with it. Get a picture up girl. Also, we, as readers, would
also like to hear about you telling us how you are cleaning up your
house and cooking dinners for your husband as well. That sounds like
some fun reading. Keep up the good work with the trip reports and
like I said before, since you have such a great husband ....... I mean
really, he didn't want to spend the money and then was going to take
you to eat at Cindrella's castle. The guy is a PRINCE!!!"

To the guy who wrote this: Thanks so much. I will give updates from time to time as to how many meals per day my children can scrounge from the couch and other sundry locations throughout the home however I will be keeping the main content of the thread about my actual trips to Walt Disney World Theme Park and Resort. Thank you for your time and attention. Have a magical day.

This is the positively absolutely best TR I have read to date!! Twinkie, you are one clever writer and you SHOULD think about writing for $. (that would certainly keep you in WDW budget money!) I cried right along with you when your DS opened Fantasyland!! Isn't that the best magic!! Of all those kids he needed it the most!! TADA!! And when you DH said that you should eat in the Castle, well my skin got all goose bumpy and I swear I didn't take a breath while he was walking up to the podium. I think we all fell a little bit more in love with your DH!! :goodvibes The Diamond Horseshoe was awesome! On our first trip to the world when my kids were bity, my DS got to go on stage! Remember the part with the underwear... my poor DS still gets embarrased. Great job and keep em coming... popcorn::

You are brilliant!! That is perfect logic! Can't wait to read more.... popcorn::

As the 1000th happyhaunt predicted we had absolutely no problem getting on the Jungle Cruise. In fact we run through the maze like advanced placement track rats and hop onto the boat which is already loaded with couples without children. And off we go to the Amazon…. And this is why I am a huge advocate of introducing your children to the House of Mouse when they are 4. As far as DS was concerned… we were in the Amazon. As the CM begins his narration, DS actually shivers. To me and every other patron on board the audio-animatronics are dated and quaint. DS is concerned about the safety of his scalp. I had already clued in to the fact that he “believed” when he got offended when the hairy leg pirate on POC wouldn’t talk to him.

DS “Psst… hey…hey you … psst… Mom, why won’t he talk to me?”

Since he is a little scared, I put my arm around him and tell him that I am sure that we will be ok. This is an adventure. It was a little weird being on a Disney attraction with no other children. As we exit the ride, DH suggests riding it again, but suddenly it clicks and I know where all the children in the World are….

WHERE?! I'm racking my brain trying to remember what was going on back in 1998 at around 4:00 p.m. at MK that might attract all the children. I can't remember. Please tell me!

it is much later than 4 o' clock
bemember... we rode the rides, saw the Far Out Goofy show, detoured by the castle, cruised

it is after 7 pm.....

now do you know????
