How I got out of a mixed marriage

subscribing cuz I can't wait til it's all said and done!!....need - next - installment....now :crazy2: :faint:

So I logged onto the DISboards, and intended to click on my own trip report to update it, when the title of this one caught my eye.

Now I'm hooked! Who cares about my own trip--I want to hear more about yours!

Keep the installments coming.

to my DH explaining why the dishes are piling up, there are goldfish (the crackers, not the pet) pulverized under the couch, and the children are running amok while I get back to 1998?

skent10: quit reading and get back to writing, because I am hooked on your trippie, Like I said I usually wait for them to be done 'cause I am impatient but I made an exception for you- I am so interested in how your kids react to the World. I can so totally relate to "musical beds" we play on every vacation-even grandparents and occasionally at home too. Btw- I think they are darling! I can't imagine how difficult it was to be pg with twins while dealing with 2 other babies. They turned out great and you kept travelling. Way to go!

I'm loving your report ~ such fun reading :cool1: Can't wait for the next installment.

So I have carefully planned our day by crossing the “Dumbo or Die in a Day” and the “One day touring plan for parents with small children” in Bob Sehlinger’s Unofficial Guide. It of course calls for riding Dumbo first- which we are doing in the very first ride cycle thanks to Disney Magic. So I take the classic Dumbo pics of my handsome men and then hop in line so we can complete the Chuck Bubba relay. Bubba is chucked and now I am finally riding Dumbo for the first time since the unremembered trip of ’77. Now the reason I love Disney parks is because of the whimsy and magic. We are not thrill seekers. I love the details, the theming, the cheerful CMs, the pristine parks, the landscaping. I love it. So here I am as a mom on this little cycle loading ride about an elephant that found a way to celebrate what others thought he should hide. :cheer2:
You should have seen the light in my little guys’s eyes as we exited the ride.
:cloud9:
Would it be a spoiler to say that he didn’t whine, complain or ask for a single snack or toy for the rest of the day? He remembered my mean mama moment and was determined to keep on riding the rides.

After we reunite as a family, DH and DS are attracted to the teacups. Oh no! We need to hit our must-dos: Peter Pan, POC, Haunted Mansion. (Even though I am a WDW vet I haven’t at this point actually ridden Space Mtn or Splash Mtn- my parents wouldn’t take me when I was little and when I was older we spent all of our time at Epcot. On this trip DS is over 40 inches but like I said, the kid is timid about a bike so I want to take it easy on introducing rides so he doesn’t get spooked.) So my thinking is that Peter Pan is a good dark ride for a little boy and if he likes it I want to hot-foot it over to POC and HM. I figure we need to beat the crowds so we don’t get hung up in the pre-ride (which in both cases can be unnerving) until after he has already successfully ridden. So onward march men- no getting distracted by bright spinning things. Off to Peter Pan! As I drag them through the park DH keeps saying “I don’t remember this... hey this is cool. Look at that DS. Wow." Off to Neverland! This becomes a family favorite. We all fit into one row of the pirate ship so DS feels snug and secure as we enter the dark. We love this ride so much that we ride it again. Then onto POC- there is no wait. It is only 9:15 and everyone else is riding a mountain or in line for Dumbo. What a great ride! DS got a big kick out the fact that it was Daddy’s first time too and that he was scared in a fun way. Mommy wasn’t scared (that is me!) because she has ridden it before. We leave singing about really bad eggs- and head to HM. Now even though he has successfully faced the pirates DS is concerned about this one. No problem- back to Fantasyland. I have never seen Festival of the Lion King so it is a must do too. Then we hit the teacups (3x), the merry go round, and Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. We really miss this one- DH always had a great trip narration “oh noooo I am about to hit the door, whew that was a close one, here we gooo again”. Then we do Peter Pan again and Small World. We are near Liberty Square and we talk DS into HM. He loves it! Especially knowing that he was brave enough to go into a Haunted Mansion. We look for the hitchhiking ghost. We go again. Ok, I can’t find my actual notes from the trip so I am not exactly sure what we did next. I do know at some point we walked past Splash to see if he was up for it. He wasn’t. We take the train to toontown fair. We tour the houses and stand in line to meet the Big Cheese. We let DS play in the water at Donald Boat. I decide to let him drip dry on the Barnstormer while DH sits that one out. The boys did the race track. We rode Peter Pan again and POC. We are so busy having fun that we forget to take any more pictures of us having fun. At about 1 pm we exit the HM again and boy has DH’s tune changed. We have been at MK all day in the heat and crowds and so far our longest wait in line is 10 min. He looks at me, all smiles and says “OK Honey what do we do next?”

And… I … don’t… know…

We have actually done everything that I had planned for the day. It is hot. We are tired. We have no hotel to go for a much wanted midday break. So I stall as I think....WWBD?

Woo-Hoo! Way to go, Mom! That line for Dumbo would have been 30 min or more by 9:30!! :dumbo:

(Ask DH to pick up the goldfish, please, while you go on with the story!)

I haven't subscribed to anything in years but I'm subscribing to this one. I want to hear the end.

You should write books!

Ahh, finally another kindred soul who subscribes to more than just the "we did this" and "we went there" mentality. Humor works. . .as do offbeat asides, parentheticals, and ellipses. My latest report is full of them. Thanks for sharing your unique view. Yearning for more and off to find skent10's. . .

Great report!!! I love that your DS got to open the MK!!!! What a special way to begin a WDW relationship!!!!

Please keep it coming, can't wait to hear the rest.

Wow, I am hooked.

I really intend to finish my TR someday soon. Just not tonight...

YAY! I have family in Clearwater. I love the beach and tarpon springs too! :goodvibes
lovin' your trip report! popcorn::

So to refresh your memory, our merry little band is standing outside of HM and all eyes are on me as to what should we do next. Does DS want to try Splash? He is thinking about it and then DH says “I am not sure if I want to do Splash”. In his version he is really concerned because so far except for the mean mama moment we have had a perfect Disney day. Walt Disney, the Magic Kingdom and I, his wife, have amazed him and we are having a wonderful time. :cheer2: He is afraid that DS will freak out on the drop and than will end Our Perfect Day… also DS is wearing a swimsuit and I am wearing one under my clothes (I hate wet underwear! But I will cheerfully hang out in a wet swimsuit all day) but he is wearing cotton and he is afraid to get wet. Remember, the Southern Belle thing… here it is. He rejected my idea of swim trunks (with a t shirt) as inappropriate. He really doesn’t like being uncomfortable. He is more a Poly concierge kind of guy than a Fort Wilderness if ya know what I mean.
So we are standing there glowing in the heat, I declare...... when suddenly my jedi training kicks in. It is almost as I can see a holographic-y image of Obi Bob saying “Tom Sawyer Island is a getaway within the park… a perfect shady place to regroup”

So off we go to take a raft to Tom Sawyer Island. I haven’t actually been here before because you see it is a glorified playground. Maybe one reason I like ol’ Bob and his UG so much is that his core philosophy about WDW is much like my parents…. Spend your precious time doing the things that Disney excels at and skip the stuff you can do elsewhere. Now if you have enough time, then do it all! but who ever has enough time?
Tom Sawyer Island was a great retreat- especially if you are staying off site (like in Tampa). :lmao: DS did explore. We did sit in the shade. Nabs were consumed. The best part was we had to wait at the dock a longish time for our return trip. And at the dock was a checker board on a barrel. DS had just learned how to play checkers so we whiled away the time happily. For the record DS won and I wasn’t letting him. I told you he was smart.

Again my jedi training kicks in and when we get back from Mr. Twain’s idyll we head to the Diamond Horseshoe Saloon.
Up next: Guess who is in the Revue?
