How Hot is the Luau in August?

Never been to the Luau before but we're staying at the Polynesian for the first time this August so figured we'd give it a try. I understand it's outdoors though sheltered, so my question is how comfortable is it during a typical (hot, humid, potentially thurderstormy) Florida evening (we'd attend the 8:00 p.m. show).

Are there fans to help keep you cool? Are you apt to get wet if it's raining? Any seats more comfortable than others and do you get a choice of where you sit?

I live here and there is only one word for August - HOT. We went last July and attended the Luau. I do not remember fans but I have senior moments :D so that doesn' mean they didn't have them. Let me just say however, with the humidity as high as it is in August - fans will not make much of a difference. You will be hot - there will be no getting away from that! I would be more concerned about the mosquitos - they are relentless in August (not to mention dangerous) - please protect yourself from these pesky critters!!

I really didn't answer all your questions - no, you do not get a choice of seat - it is basically first come first serve. The area where you eat is covered but the stage is not - I wonder if they have the show in the rain? this was not a factor for us. On another note, I really feel that they pack too many people in to the Luau. This detracted from our enjoyment greatly. Karen

Because it is in the evening, covered (high ceiling) and has some fans, it is not overwhelming heat but it is still quite warm. Seating is according to some system as the particular ticket you hold is designated for a particular table. We have found that if we reserve early (several months in advance) and also pick up our tickets at our hotel a few or several days in advance, we have gotten seated in the front which is the best seating. We never found any major problem with mosquitos there -- you are actually more likely to get bit when waiting outside the arena in an area with lots of bushes and trees. You are protected from rain unless it comes with significant winds which blow it into the covered area in which you are sitting. All the seats are actually uncomfortable particularly if you are tall as they sit very low to the ground (tables sit low also). The show can be cancelled because of rain but usually that does not occur as storms at that time, though they occur, generally don't last for very long.

sadly, there will be a problem with Mosquitos this year - we have had a unseasonably wet winter - the experts are already saying that it will be a bumper crop this year - I would definately take protection.
